It was great to finally belong. My team, consisting of some of the most exceptional shinobi, made me feel like I had found a new family. Under the leadership of Captain Shisui Uchiha, known as "The Raven," our squad operated with good efficiency and skill.
Captain Shisui Uchiha, "The Raven," was a genius in every sense of the word. His Sharingan was a tool of both terror and precision, allowing him to execute missions with surgical accuracy. Despite his fearsome reputation, Shisui was a compassionate and cheerful leader who cared deeply for his team. He often took the time to mentor me, offering insights into both combat and the deeper philosophies of being a shinobi. His ability to read the battlefield and anticipate the enemy's moves was unparalleled, and he instilled in us the importance of adaptability and teamwork. Shisui's calm demeanor under pressure and his knack for turning dire situations into victories earned him the unwavering respect and loyalty of our team.
Shinku Akimichi, code name "Bear," was a powerhouse on the battlefield. His ability to expand his body parts with the Akimichi Clan's unique techniques made him a formidable opponent. He was our close combat specialist with a boken (staff). Shinku was also the heart of our team, always bringing a sense of warmth and camaraderie. His laughter was infectious, often lightening the mood during tense moments. Shinku's cooking skills were legendary; he could whip up a feast with the most basic ingredients, turning our camp meals into something to look forward to. His protective nature made him the big brother of the group, always ready to lend a hand or an ear when needed. He had a knack for turning even the most serious training sessions into moments of laughter, with his booming laugh echoing through the training grounds.
Unagi Kurama, code named "Dolphin," was a prodigy in genjutsu. Her illusions were so convincing that they could deceive even the most seasoned shinobi. Unagi was calm and collected, her serene demeanor often providing a counterbalance to the more intense personalities on the team. She had a deep love for literature, often quoting from classic works during our downtime, which added a touch of sophistication to our otherwise rough-and-tumble group. Unagi's insight into the human psyche made her an invaluable asset in psychological operations and interrogations, and her ability to remain composed under pressure was a source of inspiration for us all. She also had a surprisingly sharp sense of humor, often catching us off guard with her witty remarks.
Anko Mitarashi, code named "Snake," was our expert in assassination and summoning. Her ability to call forth snakes in battle was both terrifying and awe-inspiring. Anko had a mischievous streak, often playing pranks on us when we least expected it. Despite her playful nature, she was deadly serious when it came to our missions, and her strategic mind was a valuable asset. Anko's extensive knowledge of poisons and traps added an extra layer of lethality to our operations. Her fearless approach to danger and her sharp wit made her both a formidable ally and a challenging opponent to any who dared to cross her path. She often found joy in teasing me, but her pranks always came with a lesson, ensuring I stayed sharp.
Tsukino Rayuma, code named "Panther," was a prodigy in weaponry. His skill with blades and ranged weapons was unmatched, making him our go-to specialist for combat situations. Rayuma was quiet and reserved, often lost in his thoughts, but his loyalty to the team was unwavering. He had a peculiar habit of carving intricate designs into his kunai, which he claimed helped him focus during battles. Rayuma's precision and efficiency with weapons were extraordinary; he could hit a target from almost any distance with unerring accuracy. His introspective nature and meticulous attention to detail ensured that every mission was executed flawlessly, and his dedication to perfection set a high standard for the rest of us to follow. He rarely spoke, but when he did, his words carried weight, and his dry humor often caught us by surprise.
In each mission, the team treated me not as a kid but as an equal. But of the missions I was the kid of the team. Shisui's mentorship extended beyond just combat techniques; he taught me about strategy and the importance of understanding our enemies. Shinku often shared his food with me, and his laughter was contagious, easing the tension before our missions. Unagi's calm presence was a constant reassurance, and her literary quotes often provided unexpected insights. Anko's pranks, though sometimes annoying, brought a sense of normalcy and light-heartedness to our serious work. Rayuma, despite his quiet demeanor, offered silent support and shared his extensive knowledge of weaponry, helping me improve my skills.
As a team, we learned to rely on each other's strengths and cover each other's weaknesses. The bond we formed was unbreakable, forged through the trials and tribulations of our missions.
I clearly remember the first mission we got. It was the assassination of a caravan smuggling goods from Konoha, but the only problem was they were so well-connected that their arrest would cause significant trouble.
The night before the mission, Shisui took the team to a nice hotel for dinner. We were dressed in civilian clothes, blending in with the crowd. The atmosphere was relaxed, a stark contrast to the intensity of our training and missions.
As we enjoyed our meals, Shisui spoke casually, "This is a good opportunity for us to bond and understand each other better. So, what are your thoughts on the mission tomorrow?"
Shinku laughed, his hearty voice filling the room. "I hope the food on this mission is as good as tonight's dinner."
Unagi, ever the composed one, added, "We need to be careful. Their connections mean they might have unexpected defenses."
Anko grinned mischievously, "Well, as long as we get to have some fun, I'm in."
Rayuma nodded quietly, his eyes thoughtful. "Precision and stealth. We can't afford to be reckless."
Shisui smiled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Exactly. We'll assemble at the ANBU base at dawn. It's a two-day mission, so pack light and be ready for anything."
The dinner continued with light-hearted banter and laughter. It was a perfect way to ease the tension before the mission. As we left the restaurant, Shisui's tone turned serious. "Remember, this mission is crucial. We'll be in and out with no traces left behind. See you all at dawn."
The next morning, we assembled at the ANBU base, our masks in place and our identities hidden. Shisui, in his Raven mask, approached me with a grin. "Naruto, let me tell you about my first mission. I was so nervous I almost tripped over my own feet trying to be stealthy. Just remember, it's all about staying calm and focused."
I chuckled, feeling a bit more at ease. "Thanks, Captain. I'll keep that in mind."
We set off to surround the caravan, which was protected by shinobi mercenaries. Moving stealthily, we positioned ourselves strategically around the target. In ANBU, everything was about precision and subtlety—no flashy jutsu, just efficient and silent execution.
Shisui used his Sharingan to scout ahead, identifying the positions of the mercenaries and silently signaling us to move into place. He took out the first mercenary with a precise kunai to the throat, his movements fluid and silent.
Shinku moved in next. Using his Akimichi clan's ability, he expanded his arm just enough to break a neck with a single, quiet snap. His boken (staff) delivered crushing blows to incapacitate the enemies without a sound.
Unagi created a subtle genjutsu that made the mercenaries see each other as enemies for a brief moment. This confusion allowed us to move in and dispatch them with ease. She remained calm and collected, her serene presence a steadying influence on the team.
Anko summoned a small snake to slither through the grass and bite a mercenary, injecting a paralyzing venom. She then swiftly moved in for the kill, her kunai flashing in the dim light. Her pranks might be playful, but her assassination skills were anything but.
Rayuma used his expertise in weaponry to silently take down enemies from a distance. His throwing knives were deadly accurate, each one finding its mark in the shadows.
As for me, I used my Shadow Clone Jutsu to create a distraction, allowing me to slip behind enemy lines and take down a pair of guards with quick, silent strikes. The training I had received in ANBU had honed my stealth and combat skills to a razor edge.
One by one, we took down the mercenaries with swift, lethal strikes. The caravan was secured without raising any alarms. Just as we were about to complete our mission, an emergency hawk arrived with a message. A nearby ANBU team was under attack by Rain Ninja, and they needed immediate reinforcements. Morino Ibis, who was under their custody, had to be freed, and the ANBU team sent for retrieval was barely holding on, with most of them injured.
Shisui's voice was calm but urgent. "Change of plans, team. We're moving out to support the other unit. Stay sharp."
Shinku grunted, "Let's finish this quickly. They need us."
Unagi nodded, her expression serious. "We'll get them out. No one gets left behind."
Anko grinned, though her eyes were steely. "Time to show those Rain Ninja what we're made of."
Rayuma silently adjusted his gear, his focus intense. "Let's move."
We arrived at the scene where the nearby ANBU team was under attack by Rain Ninja. The landscape was a chaotic battlefield, with signs of a fierce struggle evident all around. Bloodstains marked the ground, and the air was thick with the metallic scent of conflict.
Shisui quickly assessed the situation. "Bear, Snake, Dolphin, Panther—flank them from the sides. Wolf, you're with me. We're going straight in."
I nodded, adrenaline surging through me. We moved swiftly and silently, each of us falling into our roles with practiced ease.
The Rain Ninja were trying to extract information from Ibiki Morino, who was bound and visibly battered. Idate Morino, Ibiki's younger brother, was also there, desperately trying to protect his older brother despite being outmatched. The Rain Ninja leader, Ayoyi Rokusho, stood nearby, holding the Sword of the Thunder God—a legendary weapon stolen from Konoha.
As we approached, we saw the Rain Ninja repelling the initial ANBU squad's attempts to rescue Ibiki. Both sides were heavily wounded, but the Rain Ninja had the upper hand.
Shisui gave the signal, and we sprang into action. "Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu!" he called out, unleashing a massive fireball that forced the Rain Ninja to scatter.
Shinku, expanding his arm, smashed through the enemy's front line with a powerful blow. "Chō Harite!" (Super Open Hand Slap). The ground trembled as his enlarged hand struck, sending several Rain Ninja flying.
Unagi created an illusion, making the Rain Ninja believe they were surrounded by a much larger force. "Magen: Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu" (Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique). The confusion gave us the upper hand, allowing us to strike with precision.
Anko summoned several snakes that slithered through the grass, biting and paralyzing the enemies they encountered. "Hebi Sōchi no Jutsu!" (Snake Binding Technique). Her snakes wrapped around the Rain Ninja, immobilizing them.
Rayuma, from his elevated position, picked off targets with deadly accuracy. His kunai flew through the air, each one finding its mark. "Tōken Nage!" (Throwing Blade Technique).
I followed Shisui into the heart of the battle. "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!" I created multiple shadow clones, overwhelming the Rain Ninja with our numbers.
Shisui activated his Sharingan, his eyes glowing red as he read the movements of our enemies. He moved with incredible speed, dispatching opponents with his kunai. "Kage Buyō!" (Shadow of the Dancing Leaf). His swift movements left afterimages, confusing the enemies and allowing him to strike from unexpected angles.
As we fought, I saw Ayoyi Rokusho raising the Sword of the Thunder God, preparing to strike Ibiki. "Not on my watch!" I shouted, launching myself at him. Shisui was right beside me, and together, we intercepted Ayoyi's attack.
Ayoyi's eyes narrowed as he clashed with Shisui. "You think you can stop me? This sword is mine!"
Shisui's Sharingan spun, predicting Ayoyi's movements. "We will protect our comrades and reclaim what is ours. Katon: Hōsenka no Jutsu!" (Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Technique). Shisui unleashed a barrage of small fireballs, forcing Ayoyi to retreat.
Seizing the moment, I created another set of shadow clones and then summoned a wave of water. "Suiton: Suiryūdan no Jutsu!" (Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Technique). A massive water dragon formed and surged toward Ayoyi, forcing him further back. I could see the strain on his face as he struggled to fend off both Shisui and my attacks.
Ayoyi's eyes flickered with desperation as he raised the Sword of the Thunder God again. "You won't stop me that easily!" he roared, charging at me. I parried with my own sword, coating it in water for extra strength. Our blades clashed, the sound of metal ringing through the air.
"Take this!" I shouted, pushing forward with all my might. But Ayoyi's blade, enhanced with its electric power, sliced through my water-coated sword like it was paper. The force of the cut sent a shock through my body, and I stumbled back, shocked and momentarily stunned.
Ayoyi smirked. "You're no match for me, kid."
Recovering quickly, I performed a series of hand signs. "Suiton: Suijinheki!" (Water Release: Water Wall). A wall of water surged up between us, giving me a moment to regroup. I then followed it with "Suiton: Mizurappa!" (Water Release: Violent Water Wave), aiming to push Ayoyi back.
Ayoyi was thrown off balance by the force of the water, but he quickly regained his footing. "You're persistent," he said, admiration lacing his voice. "But it won't be enough."
Taking advantage of the brief opening, I moved to free Ibiki and Idate. "Hang in there, Ibiki. We've got you," I said, cutting through their bonds.
Ibiki, despite his injuries, managed a weak smile. "Good to see you, kid. Now let's get out of here."
Anko and Shinku moved in to provide cover while Unagi cast another genjutsu to disorient the remaining Rain Ninja. "Magen: Narakumi no Jutsu" (Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique). The Rain Ninja hesitated, seeing their worst fears come to life.
Rayuma, ever the precise marksman, provided covering fire as we began our retreat. "Go! I'll keep them off you!"
As we made our way out, Ayoyi Rokusho, seeing his plan fall apart, made a desperate move. "This isn't over!" he shouted, activating several explosive tags buried in the area. The ground shook as explosions went off around us.
"Move! Get clear of the blast radius!" Shisui commanded, his voice cutting through the chaos.
I helped Ibiki and Idate to their feet, urging them to move faster. "Come on, we need to get out of here!"
The explosions created a thick cloud of smoke and debris, making it difficult to see. Amidst the chaos, Ayoyi managed to slip away. Shisui gave chase, but the trail quickly ran cold.
"Damn it," Shisui muttered, frustration evident in his voice. "He got away."
We regrouped, taking stock of our situation. The rescued ANBU team members were injured but alive, and Ibiki and Idate were safe.
Shisui turned to us, his expression serious but grateful. "You all did well. We saved our comrades, and that's what matters. We'll find Ayoyi Rokusho and reclaim the Sword of the Thunder God another day. For now, let's get everyone back to the village."
