Tsunade, despite her drinking, gambling, and bad temper, is an excellent ninja and very popular in Konoha Village.
"Yamamoto, I haven't seen you in years. Your store has grown quite a bit." Tsunade said with a faint smile as she looked around.
"This is all thanks to the wise leadership of Hokage-sama." Yamamoto replied sincerely.
"This is my student, Shiki." Tsunade introduced, glancing down.
"Uncle Yamamoto." Shiki greeted respectfully.
"He's a handsome young man." Yamamoto said, looking at Shiki and praising him. He seemed a little worn out, almost as if he'd been through a tough ordeal.
"What kind of ninja tools does Lady Tsunade want to buy today?" Yamamoto asked, waving his hand generously, "I'll give you a 50% discount!"
"I'm not buying anything today. I'm here to commission a pair of boxing gloves." Tsunade said, pulling out a piece of chakra metal, "Use this."
"Impressive!" Yamamoto's eyes lit up. He took the chakra metal and couldn't help but admire it.
"Make the gloves for him." Tsunade added, gesturing toward Shiki.
"No problem." Yamamoto said, feeling a bit emotional, "You're very kind to your student, Lady Tsunade."
It wasn't surprising that Yamamoto misunderstood. Chakra metal is extremely valuable, costing millions, even tens of millions.
"Can it be reforged later?" Shiki suddenly asked, cutting into the conversation. At six years old, his body hadn't fully developed yet, and he knew his hands would grow larger over time. It would be a waste to only use the chakra metal once.
"Reforge it?" Yamamoto pondered for a moment before nodding, "Yes, but we'll need additional materials."
"Thank you, Uncle Yamamoto." Shiki said politely.
"Thank you for your help, Yamamoto." Tsunade said, "We'll come by next Sunday to pick it up. Will it be ready by then?"
"Don't worry, Lady Tsunade. Since it's your request, I'll work overtime to get it done." Yamamoto assured her with a proud pat on his chest.
Tsunade and Shiki left the shop without paying or putting down a deposit. Tsunade's name was enough assurance. She wasn't worried Yamamoto would run off with the chakra metal. In Konoha, anyone who dared would have a short life expectancy.
As they walked, Tsunade noticed Shiki slowing down, sweating profusely. She frowned and grabbed his wrist, injecting chakra into him. There was nothing wrong with his body; he had just overexerted himself and was low on chakra.
"I should have let you rest at home." Tsunade sighed, seeing his calm expression. She couldn't help but flick his forehead.
"I'm fine." Shiki replied. He was just a bit tired, and his chakra was already recovering quickly.
For a moment, Tsunade was lost in thought. She remembered her younger brother, Nawaki.
"Nawaki, your body can't keep going like this. You need to rest and continue training later."
"I'm fine, Sis. I still have some energy left."
"Where does all this mess come from?"
"It's my determination to become Hokage!"
The memory faded, and Tsunade came back to the present. She crouched down, stretching out her arms, "Come here."
Shiki was surprised by the gesture. Tsunade was usually so fierce and intimidating. He hesitated, unsure if it was pride or fear holding him back, but Tsunade didn't wait. She picked him up, cradling him in her arms.
A faint fragrance enveloped him, and Shiki's vision blurred, focusing only on the necklace Tsunade wore and her soft embrace.
"Sleep well." Tsunade whispered, holding his head close to her chest. Shiki felt like he was resting against the finest silk—soft, warm, and comforting. He closed his eyes, but sleep didn't come easily. His body urged him to sleep, but his mind refused to rest.
Suddenly, a loud noise broke through the peaceful moment. Shiki raised his head, resting it on Tsunade's shoulder, and looked ahead. The noise came from the Ninja Academy. There was a row of bulletin boards at the school gate. Usually, they displayed the Will of Fire or Sarutobi Hiruzen's speeches, but today something different was posted.
He couldn't make it out from a distance.
"It's the Chunin Exams." Tsunade remarked, "You're still too young to participate."
Shiki thought for a moment. He recalled the Chunin Exams from the original story, the one in which Naruto and Gaara had competed. However, such large joint exams were rare and costly, so smaller exams were usually held every year for those who qualified.
"If you're interested, you can go to watch." Tsunade said casually, "Let Shizune take you."
In her opinion, the fights between Genin were trivial. She would rather spend her time gambling.
"We'll see." Shiki responded, glancing away. He wasn't really interested in attending, just curious if there were any familiar faces.
He nestled back into Tsunade's arms, feeling at ease.
But the peaceful moment didn't last long. When they got home, Tsunade unceremoniously tossed him onto the bed. Saturday had passed without any major incidents.
Sunday arrived, and after breakfast, Shiki went to the marketplace to buy groceries.
"Shiki-kun!" a familiar voice called out from behind him.
Shiki turned to see Ino. Behind her stood a beautiful woman who looked quite similar to her, exuding a mature charm. When she noticed Shiki looking at her, she smiled gently, though Shiki felt as though she was sizing him up.
"Shiki-kun, why are you out shopping for groceries by yourself? Why don't you come to my house for lunch?" Ino asked, reaching out to help him with a plastic bag.
"You came at a bad time. I was just about to head over to Naruto's house to teach him how to cook." Shiki explained.
Ino's eyes lit up, though her expression quickly turned confused.
"Wait for me, Shiki-kun." Ino said before running over to the beautiful woman, who was clearly her mother.
"Mom, can I have lunch with my friends?"
Her mother, Mrs. Yamanaka, chuckled softly, "You're abandoning your poor mother already?"
"Don't say that!" Ino protested, stamping her foot.
"Alright, alright, go on." Mrs. Yamanaka said with a gentle smile, brushing Ino's golden bangs aside.
"Thanks, Mom!" Ino beamed with happiness and skipped back to Shiki.
