Chapter 29: Fuinjutsu
Lying on her stomach, resting her face on one hand while using the other to flip through pages, was a young maiden (and I'll deck you in the schnoz if anyone says otherwise!). Beside her was a small pile of books, neatly stacked.
What's she reading? Let's take a peek, shall we? Oh? The title of the book reads Introduction to Fuinjutsu. Interesting...
That's right—I was finally diving into fuinjutsu after so long. I haven't forgotten my dream of teleporting around and blasting enemies with a rasengan. At least once my chakra reserves grow, I guess.
Why am I studying this now, you ask? Well, after two whole years of daily practice—two hours a day perfecting my calligraphy—I believe I've finally achieved near-flawless kanji. Not exactly perfect, but pretty close.
So, what exactly is fuinjutsu? According to this book, they're "sealing techniques" that can seal objects, living beings, chakra, and even a variety of other things into another object. These techniques are incredibly versatile, used for everything from general convenience to assisting with training—or even as weapons. There is also a variant called Juinjutsu, which does things like restraining movement or paralyze, inflict pain, control people and stuff like that. I guess the Caged Bird seal would be an accurate example of that? People don't ever talk about Juinjutsu. I doubt it's explained in this book, either.
Oh, and by the way, the book begins with a bold warning: DO NOT PRACTICE ALONE UNLESS YOU WANT THE SEALS TO EXPLODE!!
Yeeeeeah... I think I'm going to take that warning seriously. It sounds pretty dire if it's plastered right on the first page.
Okay, damn. There are tons of symbols—hundreds, even. Like most of the fics I've read, it's sort of like coding, I suppose? These symbols act as functions, and you combine them with some kind of intent to achieve a specific effect, like with storage scrolls. Honestly, it's kind of simplistic compared to my world. You just have to write the symbols, not entire lines of confusing code, which is a literal blessing.
If chakra intent is detected, store the object.
If the object is inside and chakra is detected, release.
Somehow, you'd also be able to tell what's stored in a well-made storage scroll, but the book doesn't really explain how. Probably a mystery. Huh, it kind of reminds me of that blocky game where you join pieces of code together to achieve a goal—like making Steve reach a tree and chop it down.
(A/N: On my mama I have no idea wtf I'm delving into, I have never tried coding HAHAHA)
The first few pages of the book listed a ton of different seals. Okay, maybe not a ton, but around a dozen or so. There was the Storage Seal, Heating Seal, Cooling Seal (probably used for refrigeration, I think?), Drying Seal, Soundproofing Seal, Filtering Seal, and then things started getting harder. The seals went from 4–6 symbols to 13–15 symbols. These included: Exploding Tag Seal (Boom!), Elemental Seals (released specific elements—useful, I guess?), Enhanced Storage Seal (double the space, plus a new function to launch items at a fixed speed), Lightning Seal (generated electricity—probably how they power mostly everything).
And more.
This is totally gonna be fun. Believe it. Speaking of Naruto… I wonder how he's doing right now? He's probably, what, two years old or something? That old fart better be taking care of him, because God help him if Minato or Kushina ever get Edo Tensei'd before time. After all, I don't know if my actions up until now will have any effect on the future. Hopefully not.
My stomach grumbled. I demand nourishment! Right on cue, I heard my mom yell, "Dinner's ready!"
"Coming!"
Best mom ever. I got up from where I was lying and headed to the main room. Over dinner, I ate and chatted a little with my mom about what I'd been up to. Once we were done, I helped her clean up before retreating back to my room.
To be honest, I think my parents from my previous life would be proud if they saw how studious I'm being right now. It's actually kind of easy since I have an actual interest in this stuff. There's no teacher who looks like he's about to go bald from stress, barking, "Read from page 5 to 24," without making the subject engaging or interesting. They never even explained how it would help us in the future. Ha. Future... A joke to the past me, that's for sure.
I wonder how Sora is doing? I've wanted a soccer buddy for so long, but my social anxiety never let me make a move. I hope he's good at it, Hehe.
I think it's about time I switched books. Doing the same thing for four hours straight is starting to get tiring. Let's see… Arithmetics? Boring. Cooking? Ehh… sounds interesting, but I'm in the mood for something more advanced. Chemistry? Yeah, that's the one! Chemistry!
I'm going to have a blast. Ooooh, electricity. Let's see…
Electrical power.
...
Yaaaaawn, that was fun. I'm already brimming with ideas on how to utilize this newly acquired knowledge. Will it still work even if I don't have an affinity for Lightning? Ah, one can just hope.
I guess for the next few months, I'll keep doing those chakra control exercises, train my body, study, spend time with my family, get along with Sora (I really, really hope that I can see him at the Academy), practice those symbols, and attempt to make some actual seals with my dad (hopefully they don't explode too much!). I'll also keep honing my shurikenjutsu for fun, achieve a higher mastery of Ice Release, and take care of little Mochi...
(A/N: Mochi is the cat's name. I hope you guys like it.)
What a drag. And yet, I'm looking forward to it.
My reserves have only grown by about 20% this year, which is somewhat disappointing.
Speaking of chakra, I might try infusing chakra into my muscles actively during my workouts and let it become a natural thing so that I can become stronger faster and get rid of that bastard, Uchiha Obito. The asshole didn't have to kill her... Technically, it was the fox, but he was the one manipulating it. All of this because of a girl who didn't even like him back the same way... Causing an entire war for that. Despicable.
My eyes grew heavy, slowly fluttering shut as the warm embrace of my covers drew me gently toward the world of dreams.
I ponder... What does the future hold for me?
