Chapter 25: Frost Taijutsu
For the next two years, I dedicated most of my time to discovering my Ice Release by myself since neither of my parents knew anything about it. Neither did the village possess much intel on it? Understandable, the Yuki clan was almost extinct by now. The only members alive should be Haku and... Me.
However, I still read whenever i could, and trained both my body and chakra daily. It became sort of like a habit. Like discipline or something?
First, I asked myself while recalling the knowledge i had on chemistry; What exactly is ice? Ice is the solid form of water, forming when water freezes, typically at or below 0°C under standard atmospheric pressure. In this state, water molecules arrange themselves in a structured, crystalline pattern, giving ice its characteristic hardness and low density.
Something I noticed whenever i pushed more of my chakra into an ice cube, instead of just maintaining its temperature, it just expanded, forming small ice spikes little by little. I couldn't quite control their direction or where they sprouted from at first. But it was something, i guess? I probably had to go down the Rudeus Greyrat path, experimenting on my own to see what works and what doesn't.
During the first month, i had done just that. Plenty of physical training too. I had begun to strike the wooden dummy-like things at the training grounds to practice my Taijutsu. My dad helped me with the Katas, so that was nice. It felt painful with each strike i gave, but pleasant to vent my frustrations at it. Maybe i'm a sadist? Is that normal? Hell if i know.
Oh, I could actually choose where the ice would expand. The key was not just letting the chakra expel out to coat the ice and create a veil, but actually going inside it and letting it flow. It was still slow, but now I could change the shape. By the way, ever since my birthday, my chakra reserves have started growing again. My height is experiencing some growth as well. Woohoo!!
I can't wait to start the academy. What's it going to be like? What am I going to learn? I really hope it's not as boring as the schools from my previous life, and certainly not as boring as what I've heard.
My progress felt pretty slow, especially with the limited chakra I had at hand. I need the Jinchūriki cheat code, please!!
So, I was growing weary of my stagnation. I decided I'd try experimenting on my own to see what I could actually do. I was currently at the training grounds.
Forgive me for what I'm about to do to you, Mr Log.
Alright. I know I said infusing chakra into my muscles would be bad, but it couldn't be that bad... Right? After all, chakra is a part of us. It is within ourselves, and besides, I have some basic knowledge of the human body, so I know which muscle groups to target. Maybe I can copy Tsunade's taijutsu style? Probably not, but i'll try.
I took a deep breath and focused on visualizing my insides. It was much easier than before to guide my chakra. I was going to try and punch the log, so I needed to guide it towards my shoulder, arm, and forearm muscles. My anterior and lateral deltoids, biceps, triceps, brachialis, brachioradialis, and... uh, I forgot the name of the other muscles. But I'd also infused the muscles surrounding the ones I mentioned with chakra. Only a little, though—I'll increase it gradually to avoid injuring myself.
I got into my stance, feeling empowered, and grunted.
"Hnngh!"
I swung forward, focusing mainly on keeping the flow of chakra steady.
Smack! Crack!
Oh, damn. That actually cracked the log. My arm felt strained, and the amount of focus I needed was still inefficient... Wait. Let me try that again.
CRACK!
I struck the log once more, and something felt off again. Was that a second impact? Is it because the chakra is delayed? It takes a moment for it to escape, so that must be it. It somewhat hurts each time I try it, yet I still feel compelled to keep striking back and forth. It's so satisfying to see the wood crack after so much training—it's actually gratifying!
SMACK! SMACK! CRACK!
The rush of power feels so damn good! I might actually be a sadist.
Moments later...
Oh, fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck. I shouldn't have done that! My entire arm is in agonizing pain, oooww! This must be why chakra enhanced blows shouldn't be delayed or released too early..!
AAAAAHH!! FUCK!
I rolled helplessly on the ground, clutching my right arm. My arm was on fire—it was on fucking fire! I kept the chakra flowing and felt the throbbing pain gradually subsiding. Minutes stretched on, and eventually, it was reduced to a dull ache.
Holy shit... That's going to take a while to get used to. Either I keep doing this, or I actually use the style the way it's intended.
Hey, now that I think about it, didn't a certain character with pink hair use this in his fighting style? The memories are hazy, but I'm sure he did it on purpose and was still very powerful.
Yeah, I think I'm just going to go down the control path. I don't feel like putting my arms through that every time I fight. God, my right arm is still throbbing.
I'll just focus on Ice for now, I suppose.
For the next few months, I did my best to understand what Ice could do. You know how I can shape the Ice? That was one of my main exercises—to increase the speed and quality of my Ice constructs. It was kind of like how Rudeus made figurines out of clay, except I was using... well, Ice. I also showed Father my fighting style, but as shocked as he was by how a four-year-old figured out chakra enhancement, he still reprimanded me. Apparently, it's dangerous if I keep doing it the way I am (for obvious reasons), and besides, I should wait until I'm older to continue.
Being a child sucks.
My affinity for Ice kept growing, and so did the energy residing inside me. I trained my body and meditated daily. Plus, I usually exhausted my chakra with Tree Walking, and yup! You guessed it—I also started practicing the Water Walking exercise!
Still had no way of measuring how big or small my reserves were. Fun. I should really ask my parents how the hell I could become a sensor or something.
Another exercise I did, one my parents especially liked, was freezing the water we had stored in the containers. I did this by dipping my fingers into each cubicle and expelling chakra over and over. Due to its nature, at first it was really slow, but a noticeable difference could be perceived. The water started to chill, and I stayed like that for half an hour, getting faster with each attempt.
This helped improve my power and efficiency—or at least, I think so. The wrinkly fingers were so not worth it.
Time passes quickly when you're having fun, doesn't it? My 5th birthday is almost here. I was really curious about what my gift would be—after all, who wouldn't be excited about opening gifts?
So exciting!
