Chapter 269: Chapter 268 : Where did Uchiha Sogetsu go??
Inside the grand and towering Corpse Cathedral, 'Adam' slowly opened his eyes while sitting on a bronze bench.
In his pale golden eyes, a fiery light like flowing lava swirled deeply, reflecting the raging waves and a sky on the brink of change, filled with thunder and lightning in the ocean of his subconscious.
"Gone...?"
'Adam' furrowed his brows slightly, his face showing a trace of confusion.
Just a moment ago, he suddenly realized that the connection between him and his 'true self' had been interrupted by some unknown factor. He could no longer sense the connection at all.
This was unusual. Unless some unforeseen danger occurred, it shouldn't have caused the 'true self' to sever the mental link with him.
The 'true self' must have taken such action to avoid a terrifying danger that might have led directly to the 'root' of this place through the Sea of Collective Subconscious.
He slowly tapped his finger on the armrest. His pale golden eyebrows furrowed tightly, and a hint of worry appeared in his eyes.
According to the agreement between him and his 'true self,' if he lost contact with the 'true self,' he had to prepare for the worst-case scenario—starting the 'resurrection' plan they had set aside.
With this in mind, 'Adam' looked through the Sea of Collective Subconscious, his gaze turning to the moon hanging in the starry sky, a moon filled with 'mystery.'
"It looks like I can't continue the exploration for now," he thought.
After a brief moment of reflection, 'Adam' decided to pause 'Obito's' advancement.
The 'corruption' on the moon had some deep connection with Obito, and since there was a problem with the 'true self,' he had to pause Obito's progress for now.
Otherwise, once the sequence reached 'demigod' status, there might be a connection with the 'Mother Tree of Desire.'
Letting Obito grow unchecked might cause him to reach 'demigod' status too quickly, and at that point, a clone of him would struggle to suppress him.
On the other side, the people of the Twilight Hermit Order also needed to suppress themselves a little.
With his thoughts swirling, 'Adam' couldn't help but feel a headache. Rubbing his furrowed brow, he grumbled, "True self, oh true self, you sure left me with a big mess to clean up."
Though he held the position of 'Sequence 4,' he was still mostly a 'Virtual Persona.' He could fool around a bit and act mysterious, but when it came to doing something serious, he felt rather powerless.
"I need to cultivate a new 'Spectator.'"
'Adam' carefully considered his options and decided to choose a 'substitute.'
No matter how reasonable the process was, or even whether things would go out of control, he needed to quickly create a high-ranking Beyonder—at least a demi-god of sequence 4.
Only then would he have the confidence to continue with the 'resurrection' plan. Without that, it would be almost impossible to succeed on his own.
And the only person who fit the bill was 'White Zetsu.'
Due to White Zetsu's nature, he had been 'hypnotized' from the start. As Uchiha Sogetsu advanced to a demi-god, a 'Virtual Persona' had been implanted deep into his mind.
So, Adam didn't worry too much about White Zetsu potentially breaking free from his control in the future.
Moreover, even if White Zetsu started to develop his own intentions after becoming a demi-god and tried to escape his control, Adam wasn't without methods to counter this.
Adam played with a yellowed piece of paper, a smirk curling at the corner of his lips. "Did you foresee this situation? Is that why you left me this?"
The paper, titled "Leymano's Travels," contained a record of a Beyonder ability.
To obtain this ability, Uchiha Sogetsu had put in a lot of effort, even creating an 'experiment' using Beyonder potions. Naturally, the experiment had been erased afterward.
After all, keeping it would be too 'dangerous.'
"It feels like something's still missing," Adam murmured to himself.
He thought for a moment, then suddenly realized what it was that he lacked.
With a slight sense of morbid curiosity, Adam pulled a monocle from his pocket and placed it over his left eye.
Don't ask why the left eye—just ask him, and he'd say it was for safety.
Then, Adam slowly stood up. He casually placed the yellowed paper on a bronze table, and his white priest robes instantly changed to a classic black long coat.
A soft, pointed hat appeared in his hand, and he placed it atop his head with a smile at the corner of his lips. "From now on, I am 'Amon.'"
The yellowed paper now bore a few lines of text, clearly stamped upon it.
Recorded: Parasite (Error Pathway - Sequence 4 - Parasite)
This is a type of ability under 'stealing,' which includes parasitic stealing at the physical level. It can deeply embed within the target's body, listening to the 'host's' thoughts, understanding the 'host's' intentions, and even taking over their body.
Once it goes beyond the host's thoughts, the body is no longer under their control.
Because of this, 'Adam' was confident he could control a 'demigod.'
After narrowly escaping from the 'Abomination,' Uchiha Sogetsu, holding the 'Staff of Stars,' thought he would appear directly in Konoha.
However, the destination guided by the 'Staff of Stars' seemed to be... slightly off.
After a brief moment of panic, Uchiha Sogetsu quickly regained his composure and began trying to observe or understand the 'space' he found himself in.
It felt as if he had been splashed with various dyes, within an extremely irregular and chaotic space, where countless, indescribable shadows lurked, and giant waves churned with negative emotions, as if the air was filled with evil whispers.
Even though he had clearly drawn the image of his destination in his mind.
And he was certain there was no mistake with the image he had drawn.
So why had the 'Staff of Stars' gone wrong and brought him to a place that couldn't be described with words?
Was this the... spirit world?
His instincts and spiritual senses told him this was the 'spirit world,' but his gut feeling contradicted that, telling him that this was not the spirit world.
These two completely opposing thoughts filled Uchiha Sogetsu's mind. There were no 'stars,' 'moon,' or 'sun' here, and it was impossible to tell which direction he was facing.
With no other choice, Uchiha Sogetsu began to flap his wings, using his mythical beast form to explore the unknown space with what little 'time' he had left.
Soon, in his mythical beast form, Uchiha Sogetsu felt his spirit and mind beginning to lose control.
This meant his time was running out. He had to find a way out quickly. He couldn't help but laugh bitterly as he grabbed the '062-Staff of Stars' again and started to sketch a new destination in his mind.
However, at that moment, a sudden alert from the system interrupted his thoughts.
"Damn!"
The vision he had been drawing in his mind was abruptly cut off. Uchiha Sogetsu's eyes widened in shock, and all he could do was shout in anger.
In an instant, his body faded and disappeared from the spot.
Heavy, lead-colored clouds covered the sky above the city.
Bright lightning sliced through the clouds, and torrential rain poured down like a raging river, spilling onto the asphalt streets.
In the low visibility, a black sedan suddenly appeared, roaring like a fierce mechanical beast. The engine growled loudly as the car sped through the rain and strong winds, water splashing against its body and forming a thin mist behind it.
The black sedan raced at incredible speed, reaching 275 kilometers per hour. Yet, the dark and endless asphalt road seemed to stretch on forever.
Even with the engine's tachometer in the red zone, the man driving the sedan showed no sign of slowing down. He pressed the accelerator to the floor, his sharp eyes fixed on the road ahead, as if searching for a way out of the suffocating darkness.
