Could it be that I came to the wrong place? No, that can't be right.
Taking two steps back, Kazuki looked at the sign on the door frame and became increasingly perplexed. Getting a bunch of troublemakers to behave was hard enough, but making them polite? That was far more challenging.
Kazuki knew the kind of people in the Third Squad. He still remembered what it was like when he first became the captain.
Looking closely, he noticed there was someone new in the break room, a petite and lovely girl.
"A new recruit?"
No wonder everyone was acting so differently. Kazuki almost thought the sun had risen in the west. It turned out they had a new, adorable female member.
However... this new recruit looked somewhat familiar.
"Captain."
With some nervousness, Izumi quickly bowed in greeting. Although she had passed the interview part, whether she could stay in the police force ultimately depended on Kazuki's evaluation. If he didn't give her a good evaluation, she'd have to leave and apply again for another assessment, similar to how academy graduates could be sent back if their team leaders found them unfit.
Looking down at the tense and constrained girl, Kazuki was silent for a few seconds before asking, "Are you Uchiha Izumi? Aunt Hazuki's child?"
Izumi wasn't a native Uchiha; she could barely be considered part of the clan. Her mother, Uchiha Hazuki, had married outside the clan and returned after her husband's death, bringing Izumi back with her. Izumi then changed her name to use the Uchiha surname.
Truthfully, their position within the Uchiha wasn't particularly good.
"Yes."
Izumi nodded nervously, saying, "My mother often mentions you, Captain. After I graduated, she persuaded me to join the police force so that we could integrate more fully into the Uchiha clan."
"I see."
Kazuki suddenly understood. He almost thought it was his influence, but it was Hazuki's decision. Due to her mother's influence, Izumi didn't join the academy-assigned team but instead applied for the police force.
Nodding, Kazuki said, "Since you chose to join the police force, work hard and diligently. I believe the clan will genuinely accept you and Aunt Hazuki."
"Everyone, prepare for patrol. Izumi, you'll learn from me first."
It was tradition for the captain to guide the new recruit. Since Izumi had just joined, Kazuki, as the captain, needed to lead her.
"Yes, sir!"
The squad members answered loudly.
As Kazuki walked into his office, Kiyama and the others winked at Izumi, reassuring her, "Don't worry, Izumi. The captain is actually a very kind person. Your evaluation will be fine."
"I believe I can stay."
Izumi, feeling the pressure, smiled awkwardly. She was nervous, despite her mother repeatedly telling her that Kazuki wasn't strict.
The Sixth Elder, lying in the hospital, might have spat blood in anger if he heard this.
Just as Kazuki was preparing to go out on patrol with his team, an unexpected visitor arrived at the police department, causing everyone to tense up.
Danzo, leaning on his wooden cane, walked slowly into the hall. His presence made the surroundings fall silent. He scanned the area with his sinister gaze and coldly said, "I want to see Uchiha Kazuki."
After waiting all night with no word from his subordinates, Danzo had to make this trip himself, hoping to intimidate Kazuki and perhaps retrieve his men. It was a matter of pride.
"Looking for me?"
Kazuki, who was just coming down the stairs, heard this and looked over curiously. Danzo had come personally?
The entire hall fell silent. Someone quietly left to inform Fugaku, the clan leader. Danzo's arrival was never a good sign for the Uchiha.
"What can I do for you, Advisor?"
Kazuki walked towards Danzo, waving to everyone, "Get back to work. The advisor isn't a ghost to be afraid of."
"I don't like sharp-tongued brats," Danzo said, his exposed left eye narrowing. It was clear he understood Kazuki was indirectly insulting him.
An ominous aura emanated from Danzo, but Kazuki remained unaffected.
Lowering his gaze slightly, Kazuki rubbed his face and smiled, "Coincidentally, I don't like old men lurking in the shadows, like snakes ready to strike. It makes you want to smash them with a stick, don't you agree, Advisor?"
Insulting Danzo without naming him directly, Kazuki showed no fear of confrontation. Since Danzo had already targeted him, there was no need for courtesy.
Kazuki believed that making a bigger fuss would ensure more eyes watched Danzo, keeping himself safer.
Danzo's eyes flashed with cold light, and he gripped his cane tightly, revealing his inner turmoil. He was used to being above others, so even a slight disrespect bothered him.
"Evil Uchiha brat, you're quite something," Danzo said, ignoring the angry and resentful glares from the surrounding Uchiha.
"Thank you for the compliment, Advisor. But what brings you here?"
Kazuki, unfazed by Danzo's insult, continued to smile, "I have tasks to attend to. Too many rats and snakes are lurking in the village's shadows, ready to bite. As a police squad captain, I must take this seriously."
Come on, let's hurt each other. Kazuki knew Danzo wouldn't dare act openly against him.
"Where are my men?"
After being insulted, Danzo got straight to the point.
"Your men?" Kazuki feigned confusion, "Why would your men be in the police department? You must be mistaken. Maybe you should go home and check."
Then, Kazuki suddenly slapped his forehead and quickly apologized, "Sorry, I forgot. As an advisor, you're all alone, with no family."
"Uchiha Kazuki!!!"
Unable to tolerate it any longer, Danzo exploded with rage.
