Chapter 20: CHAPTER 17. SASUKE’S AWAKENING
## **Chapter 17**
It had been a week since Ryuga's visit to the hospital. Sasuke finally returned to school, appearing calm on the surface, but there was a storm brewing beneath. As usual, Ryuga sat at his preferred spot: the last bench of the middle row, observing the class with an uninterested yet calculating gaze. Sasuke chose his usual seat as well, in the last row of the rightmost column, quiet and detached.
The school day proceeded without incident. Sasuke interacted with no one beyond what was absolutely necessary, his demeanor cold yet hollow. No one mentioned the hospital confrontation, and Sasuke certainly didn't volunteer any details about it. After the final bell rang, Ryuga wandered off to play a game of strategy with Shikamaru and enjoyed snacks with Choji. It was his usual, relaxed routine.
Sasuke, however, had no such distractions. As the sun began to set, he made his way to the ruined Uchiha training grounds, surrounded by the eerie silence of abandonment. It was the same place that once echoed with laughter, family sparring matches, and the proud traditions of the Uchiha clan. Now, it was little more than a tomb.
————-
The images from that night still haunted him. The sight of Itachi—his brother, his idol—standing amidst the bodies of their parents, drenched in their blood, was burned into his mind.
That night, Sasuke had frozen in place. His mind refused to believe what his eyes were witnessing. His brother, the one he looked up to, had slaughtered their parents in cold blood. Sasuke's horror reached its peak when Itachi turned his gaze to him. Those once-kind eyes now radiated a chilling malice. The shock of betrayal awakened something within Sasuke: his one-tomoe Sharingan.
Fueled by raw anger and confusion, Sasuke had attempted to attack Itachi, his small body trembling with emotion. But Itachi had subdued him effortlessly with a brutal punch to the stomach. The impact sent Sasuke into unconsciousness.
When he awoke the next morning, he found himself in a hospital bed. The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, broke the devastating news: Itachi had not only killed their parents but had massacred every single member of the Uchiha clan. Their bodies were burned to ashes, leaving Sasuke as the sole survivor of the Uchiha bloodline. Itachi, the perpetrator, had fled the village.
Grief overwhelmed Sasuke. The weight of the tragedy pressed down on him like a boulder. Sadness consumed him for the loss of his family and clan. Yet, what hurt most was the betrayal. The brother he admired and trusted more than anyone had betrayed him in the most unimaginable way. The betrayal stoked a fire of rage within Sasuke—a burning desire for revenge.
That day, Sasuke made a vow to himself: **he would kill Itachi with his own hands.** No matter what it took, he would avenge his parents, his clan, and his shattered trust.
---
As evening fell, Sasuke sat alone in his hospital room, still lost in thought. His mind was a chaotic mess, alternating between sorrow and fury. He replayed Itachi's actions and his own helplessness over and over again.
Suddenly, the door to his dimly lit room creaked open without so much as a knock. Sasuke looked up, startled. A cold, mocking voice sliced through the silence.
"Hmm, what a sight. The great Sasuke Uchiha, sulking in the dark."
From the doorway, Ryuga stepped into view, his face obscured in shadows. Only his left eye, a vibrant purple, shone like a gem in the dim light.
Sasuke's voice was heavy with weariness as he spoke. "Why are you here, Ryuga?" It was clear he had no energy for conversation.
But Ryuga's tone grew sharper, laced with cruelty. "I wanted to see what your crying, sobbing face looks like after being betrayed by your beloved brother—the one who killed not only your clan but also your parents. Itachi Uchiha, your precious nii-san."
At the mention of his brother's name, Sasuke's rage ignited. He clenched his fists tightly, the veins on his arms bulging with tension. His voice rose as he shouted, "He's not my brother! Don't ever speak his name in front of me! I'm going to kill him, and I'll revive my clan!"
Ryuga responded with a burst of mocking laughter, his voice echoing through the room. "You? Kill Itachi? That's the joke of the decade."
His laughter stopped abruptly, and his tone grew dark. "You know better than anyone what kind of monster your brother is. He's the strongest Uchiha of this generation—probably even stronger than the Third Hokage. He's mastered countless jutsu and achieved things that no ordinary ninja could dream of. And you think you can kill him? Don't make me laugh."
---
Sasuke's anger gave way to despair as Ryuga's words hit home. Deep down, he knew the truth. Itachi was a prodigy, a genius far beyond Sasuke's current level. No matter how much Sasuke wanted to deny it, the gap between them felt insurmountable. His fists loosened, his head lowering as the weight of reality crushed him.
Ryuga continued, his words dripping with venom. "But you know, there's always the other option: reviving your clan. All you have to do is grow up. Girls already fawn over your looks and cold attitude. That part should be easy." He smirked, enjoying Sasuke's building frustration.
He leaned in closer, his voice soft but sharp. "Maybe your pathetic parents would be proud of their useless second son for reviving the clan. After all, they failed to raise their precious genius Itachi properly, didn't they? What kind of parents let their child grow into a monster who kills them and slaughters the entire clan?"
The insult was too much. Sasuke, blinded by fury, lunged at Ryuga, aiming a punch straight at his mocking face. But Ryuga caught him effortlessly, twisting his arm and immobilizing him. Sasuke gasped in pain as Ryuga's grip tightened.
The next moment, Sasuke screamed in agony as his bones began to snap one by one. Ryuga's cold voice whispered in his ear. "How does it feel to die, Sasuke? To feel your body break, piece by piece?"
The world around Sasuke faded to black.
---
He awoke suddenly, drenched in sweat, his body unscathed. His mind spun as he realized it had all been an illusion—a genjutsu crafted by Ryuga. Yet, the pain and helplessness felt real, as if his body had truly been broken.
Sasuke's chest heaved as despair consumed him once more. He shouted, his voice hoarse, "Why? Why is this happening to me? Why did my brother kill my family? Why did he destroy everything?"
His voice broke as the word "why" repeated endlessly in his mind. His vision blurred, and the room seemed to darken as his anguish deepened.
A voice rang out in his head, cold and merciless.
**"Because you're weak."**
**"Because you're weak."**
**"Because you're weak."**
The phrase repeated over and over, drilling into his mind.
Ryuga's voice interrupted the torment. "You're not ready yet. You're too weak for me to use. But one day, you must surpass every Hokage, even your ancestor Madara Uchiha. Until then, don't bother asking questions. If you don't grow stronger... I'll devour you."
Ryuga turned to leave but paused at the door. His final words cut through the silence. "If you don't want to die, then become stronger."
---
Sasuke's trembling hands clenched into fists. His resolve hardened as Ryuga's words echoed in his mind. **He needed power.** Power to avenge his clan. Power to protect himself. Power to ensure he never lost anyone again.
As he vowed to grow stronger, his one-tomoe Sharingan began to spin. A second tomoe emerged in each eye, marking his evolution. A sudden flood of unknown memories surged into his mind, causing an unbearable headache. He collapsed onto the hospital bed, unconscious, as the darkness claimed him.
