Chapter 11: Chapter 11: The Uchiha Massacre
Time flew by, and two months passed in the blink of an eye.
During this time, Yagyu stuck to his usual routine: sending two shadow clones home to train while attending the Ninja Academy in person, hoping for a stroke of luck. He anticipated possibly extracting something valuable from Naruto, Sasuke Uchiha, or even Shikamaru Nara.
During holidays, Yagyu trained alongside Hinata, Ino, and Sakura. However, their training sessions no longer took place in secluded forests or other remote areas but in Yagyu's own home.
When the girls first saw Yagyu's shadow clones, their jaws dropped in disbelief. Their eyes sparkled with admiration as they gazed at him, filled with reverence.
They had thought Yagyu's mastery of lower-level ninja techniques in his first year was already remarkable. Even Ino and Sakura's parents praised him as a genius and approved of their daughters training with him during the holidays.
But when they realized Yagyu could perform the Shadow Clone Jutsu, a B-rank technique, they were astounded.
Unlike Hinata, neither Ino nor Sakura had even mastered the basic E-rank Three Basic Techniques.
After witnessing Yagyu's true capabilities, the girls became even more motivated in their training.
Just as Ino didn't want to be outdone by Hinata and Sakura, the three girls didn't want to be left too far behind by Yagyu. They feared he might one day stop including them in his training.
Thus, during every holiday, Yagyu's home became their temporary training ground.
Why temporary?
Because Yagyu had no plans to train outdoors during this time.
To be precise, he wouldn't venture out to train until the Uchiha clan's massacre was over.
He knew that, for an extended period afterward, Obito Uchiha would linger around the Hidden Leaf Village.
With his Kamui ability to phase in and out of existence, Obito was the ultimate ninja-world glitch.
Even if he couldn't win a fight, his enemies couldn't touch him either. And even if someone managed to kill him once, he had the Izanagi technique as a backup life.
Unless one had a perfectly hidden space in another dimension, there was no way to stop Obito.
Training outdoors during this time posed too great a risk. What if Obito decided to take an interest in them on a whim?
Yagyu wasn't willing to gamble with his safety and attract the attention of such powerful figures this early.
Thus, he chose caution.
Finally, the day of reckoning arrived.
During the last class of the afternoon, Iruka suddenly announced, "Today, we'll be holding a surprise test. After class, gather at the training field."
"What? That's so unfair!"
A wave of groans echoed through the classroom.
Of course, these protests came from students with poor grades. Talented students like Sasuke Uchiha, on the other hand, perked up.
After all, even the results of surprise tests contributed to their academic ranking.
Yagyu's top student status wasn't just due to his perfect scores on major exams but also his consistent performance on smaller tests and surprise evaluations.
For someone to surpass Yagyu and claim the top spot, they would need to match his scores on every test—or, even better, prevent him from achieving a perfect score.
Sasuke Uchiha saw this as his chance for revenge after previously losing the top spot to Yagyu.
Glancing at Yagyu, Sasuke couldn't resist throwing a provocative look his way.
As fate would have it, Yagyu was already looking at Sasuke.
But instead of rising to the challenge, Yagyu's gaze was filled with pity.
Who was the most tragic character in the Naruto world?
Sasuke Uchiha was undoubtedly one of them.
Before the age of seven, he was a chosen one: born into one of the greatest clans, with a father as the clan leader, a prodigy for an older brother, and the reincarnation of Indra Otsutsuki himself.
But after seven, Sasuke's life was no longer his own. Consumed by a need for revenge against his brother, Itachi, he was willing to give up everything.
When he finally killed Itachi and learned the truth about the Uchiha massacre, his desire for revenge shifted, leading him down a path of revolution and redemption—one that Naruto ultimately steered him away from.
The destinies of Naruto and Sasuke, both reincarnations of the Sage of Six Paths' sons, mirrored yin and yang: one suffered early in life, the other later.
Perhaps that was why their bond surpassed mere friendship—if either were gender-swapped, they'd be the ultimate couple.
Knowing the impending tragedy that would turn Sasuke into the tormented "Avenger," Yagyu didn't bother to warn him.
After all, events orchestrated by the Hidden Leaf's top brass were far beyond his influence.
When the school bell signaled the end of the day, students poured out of the academy—except for those in Year 2, Class 1, who headed to the training field.
By the time the surprise survival exercise ended, dusk had turned to night.
For the first time staying so late, the students rushed home instead of lingering to play as usual.
Sasuke was among them, sprinting away.
Watching his retreating figure, Yagyu sighed inwardly.
This proud but lively Sasuke would soon vanish, replaced by a bitter and vengeful Uchiha orphan.
Following the fall of the Uzumaki and Senju clans, yet another ancient bloodline would fade into legend.
Years from now, the Sharingan might even become a mythical kekkei genkai.
That night, Yagyu ate an early dinner, bathed, and went to bed.
The next morning, as soon as Yagyu stepped outside, he noticed an unusual atmosphere in the village.
Everywhere he went, villagers whispered among themselves.
The name "Uchiha" was frequently mentioned.
News of the Uchiha massacre had spread.
It wouldn't be long before the entire Fire Country and ninja world knew.
Arriving at school, Yagyu noted Sasuke's seat remained empty even after the bell rang.
"Iruka-sensei, is Sasuke okay?"
When Iruka entered the classroom, some of the girls—who had crushes on Sasuke—asked anxiously.
Smiling reassuringly, Iruka said, "Don't worry, Sasuke is fine. He's just unconscious in the hospital. Once he wakes up, I'll visit him."
Relieved, the girls planned to inform Sasuke's fan club after class.
Too young to grasp the weight of the tragedy, they couldn't understand how deeply this event would scar Sasuke.
Ironically, his transformation into a cold and aloof avenger would only make him more popular.
"I heard Sasuke's brother was the one who wiped out the Uchiha clan."
"Really? That's so tragic!"
Ino, Sakura, and Hinata whispered among themselves.
Yagyu, resting his chin on his hand, silently breathed a sigh of relief.
The Uchiha clan's annihilation meant Obito Uchiha and Zetsu wouldn't linger in the village anymore.
Soon, it would be safe to resume outdoor training.
