Chapter 140: Sadness, it's everywhere
Wearing a white T-shirt and black pants, Naruto exited from the bathroom. His expressions were somewhat unreadable. He slowly walked toward the dining hall.
He remembered his conversation with Hinata last night. Today was the day he was going to return in real time. If he stayed here longer, he was sure a new timeline would be created, or something drastic would change in the future.
He didn't know how he would go, but he had some theories about time traveling. He was going to use the same but slightly different technique that they used to travel to the past.
His heart wanted to stay here with his parents, but he knew it was not possible. It would cause more problems than he could imagine, and he had someone waiting for him to return.
In reality, he didn't know how much time had passed. Traveling through the time tunnel could cause time dilation. For him, it might have been just a few minutes, but for others, it could have been hours, days, months, or even years. He wasn't sure if he would arrive in the future at the same time when he left. He might have arrived in his time several years later, and he didn't know how much time had passed in that time.
"I promised Shion that I would return in two days. Now, here I am, and I don't even know how to go back, and the time strings around my father and mother have changed drastically."
"I just hope everything will be all right."
Naruto had placed all his hopes for the future on his ice clone.
Now that he was about to go, he didn't want his parents to be sad. He knew they didn't deserve what happened to them in the future. He wanted them to be happy, and as a parting gift, he would give them what they deserved: happiness, a life full of joy and peace with their family.
He had talked with his Hinata about this, and, of course, she was more than happy to help him. She even suggested some of her ideas to him.
The only option was a powerful genjutsu, a genjutsu so powerful that it could be considered both an illusion and reality at the same time.
A genjutsu that lies between the realm of imagination and reality. With Hinata's Jogan and his ability related to souls, he could create a false world yet real at the same time.
Lost in thought, he didn't know when he walked down the stairs and reached the dining table.
snap
Kushina snapped her fingers as she looked at her son in a daze.
Hearing the sound of the snap, Naruto came out of his own world. "Sorry for that, I was a bit lost in my thoughts."
Kushina, with her usual teasing nature, looked at him. "What are you thinking, could it be…" She was about to say something when she felt Hinata's pleading eyes gazing at her. They had agreed not to tease Naruto about the events of last night.
cough
Kushina coughed and smiled amiably. "Let's eat first, or the food will turn cold."
Naruto nodded and avoided her gaze. He knew what she was about to bring up, but looking at Hinata, he knew she had resolved the matter.
He looked at Hinata, and their gazes met. A blush appeared on Hinata's cheeks, and she averted her gaze, looking down at the ground.
Naruto found her reaction so cute that he wanted to jump on her and kiss her. 'Calm down, this is not the time.'
Hinata felt his heated gaze, and her cheeks turned even redder. Kushina was beside them, serving the plates on the table, so she didn't notice them, which made it more thrilling for them.
The fear of being caught by Kushina added excitement to their playful flirting. They didn't want to get caught, but at the same time, they wanted to indulge in some light teasing.
Naruto moved around the table and started to help his mother. "I will do it myself, sweetie. You can sit in the chair."
"Let me help," he said with a smile, and when he was about to pass by Hinata, he quickly leaned forward and kissed her on the cheek.
"Mmm…" Hinata hadn't expected him to do something so daring in front of Kushina. She quickly looked at Naruto, who was arranging the plates, and it seemed like nothing had happened.
Hearing Hinata's soft hum, Kushina turned her head and looked at Hinata. Her cheeks had a tinge of red. "Is there something you want?" she asked with slight suspicion. But she didn't find anything and continued arranging the food. When everything was ready, she looked at Naruto. "Call your dad; he is outside the house."
He nodded and went to the backyard of the house, where Minato was reading some scrolls. Naruto raised an eyebrow. If his memories were right, he knew his father didn't read in the morning. He looked at his father curiously and asked, "What are you reading?"
Minato came out of his daze and looked at Naruto. "Ahh... when did you come? I haven't noticed you."
"I just came," Naruto replied while looking at the scroll.
Minato, feeling his gaze, nodded in understanding. "I was studying the shadow clones, their uses in different situations," he said and quickly closed the scroll. Getting up from his seat, he walked towards Naruto. "I guess you're here for breakfast."
Naruto nodded to him. He found his father's reaction a bit suspicious. He couldn't put a finger on it, but when he saw through the scroll, his father was indeed reading about shadow clones.
'Am I becoming paranoid?' Naruto thought and walked with his father. He couldn't risk something happening to those who were waiting for him in the future.
Soon, they both reached the dining table and sat down.
"Let's start," Kushina said, and all of them began to eat while having some small chat.
After finishing breakfast, Naruto and Hinata picked up the plates.
"I can wash them; you don't have to do it," Naruto offered.
"Let us do it for once," Naruto said firmly, to which Kushina was unable to resist.
"Okay… but only this time," she said. Naruto smiled at her.
"I am outside if you need something; just give me a call," Minato said.
Kushina nodded and sat on the sofa, watching her son with a soft smile.
"So you're going to do it now?" Hinata asked in a low voice, only audible to Naruto.
"I have to do it," he said, but his tone wasn't as bright as it used to be.
Hinata could feel the sadness in his voice. It pained her to see him sad, but she knew he had to do it.
"Don't worry about it, I'm with you," she said, leaning towards him, their shoulders touching as they washed the plates.
Naruto nodded to her, his heart felt warmth as he looked at Hinata. She understood him the most, even without him knowing, she always did her best to support him. She was the perfect wife, his wife.
His eyes looked gently at her, and feeling his gaze, Hinata sweetly smiled, her face slightly red.
"You are so cute," he said softly. Her cheeks turned even redder.
Kushina looked at the two of them. She couldn't hear them, but she could feel their emotions. 'So cute,' she thought to herself.
But her eyes flickered slightly when she felt a tinge of sadness from Naruto. She knew she couldn't have them forever; they had to go, and it pained her heart. She wanted them in her life.
But she knew this was futile. Naruto had to go, and she would be left alone. These past days were the happiest days of her life; the dream of having a family had become real for her. But soon, it would shatter like a broken mirror.
'Maybe I will just live with memories, memories of my son, my whole family, right?' She couldn't help but smile sadly.
Soon, they finished the washing. "I will be in our room; just call me when you need me," Hinata whispered, to which Naruto nodded.
Hinata went upstairs, leaving Kushina and Naruto alone in the house. He walked towards his mother and sat beside her.
Kushina gazed at her son, a sweet smile forming on her lips. She looked at his face, his hair, his eyes, ears, nose, as if she were engraving him in her soul.
Naruto didn't say anything; he let her do as she pleased. And when she was done looking at him, a mischievous smile appeared on her face. "What were you talking so secretly about that you didn't want your mother to hear?"
Naruto looked at her for a brief moment. "Nothing," he said.
"Hehe… Don't be shy," she teased him. It was always good to tease her son.
Naruto felt a pain in his heart when he looked at her radiant smile. Today was the last day he would see her.
"Can I lay there?" he said in a low voice.
Kushina nodded to him with a sweet smile. "Come here, my baby."
Naruto felt embarrassed. He leaned forward and put his head on her lap. Kushina gently ruffled his hair as he closed his eyes. She continued to caress his face gently, and she could hear his heart beating. A sadness filled her heart. She knew it was time. After a brief moment, she softly spoke, "Are you going?"
Naruto nodded his head. He could feel her sadness, and he gently opened his eyes and looked into her eyes. "You know, Mom, I love you."
A sweet smile graced Kushina's face as she fondly stroked his hair. He was her precious son, and she didn't want to be separated. She always wanted to hold him right in front of her. "I love you too, my sweetie."
He just lay there, savoring every moment he spent with his mother. Unknown to him, his eyes filled with sadness. Naruto felt conflicted.
Looking into her son's eyes, Kushina's eyes started to become moist, and tears threatened to fall. She raised her head and looked at the ceiling so that her tears wouldn't fall.
She started to speak while gently caressing his cheeks. "I always wanted to live with my whole family. When I saw you for the first time, my heart was about to burst out of my chest. My whole world became so bright. The days you spent with me were the best days of my life."
She gazed down at her son, a tear slipped from her eye. Her heart beat faster, and her breaths became heavy. "And now that you are going, I feel like my whole world is shattering right in front of my eyes."
"But thanks to you, I now know how it felt to have a whole family, and I'll always remember these moments. I'll always remember you, my son," she said, her voice dry.
Naruto averted his gaze. He knew that if he looked at her for one more second, he wouldn't be able to control his tears.
He wanted to say something, but his voice didn't come out of his throat.
He felt some wet drops on his face. Raising his hand, he touched them and took a heavy breath. He didn't want her to cry.
Raising his hand, he touched her cheeks and wiped away the tears. "If you cry, it will make me cry too."
She closed her eyes and tried to stop her tears. She didn't want her son to cry because of her.
"Mom."
She looked at him.
"What is it, sweetie?" she asked him sweetly.
"Before I go, I want to give you a parting gift," he said and stood up from her lap, looking into her eyes. "Call Father."
Kushina nodded to him and called her husband. On the other hand, Naruto called Hinata. Soon, the whole family gathered and sat on the sofa.
Naruto looked at Hinata, and she nodded to him. They had talked about it last night.
Hinata held Naruto's hand as her eyes turned to Jougan.
"Hold each other's hands," Naruto said, and soon all of them were holding each other's hands. Naruto was in the middle, his left hand holding Hinata's and his right hand holding his father's hand.
Naruto spoke softly, and everything changed around them.
"Genjutsu: World of Illusions."
