Naruto - Minato Namikaze SI

Chapter 192: Chapter 191 - Return to the Western Border!

[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]

Third Person POV

Konoha, Year 40.

...

...

"Let's go." Minato said as he headed towards the camp, followed by Hanabi and Mikoto, arriving at the seal point on the edge of the forest.

The ninjas appeared even before they entered the camp, landing in front of them. One of the jounins approached to greet them with a smile.

"Minato! We were expecting your arrival in the coming days. It's good to see you here again," he said, one of the ninjas Minato knew well, as he was often near Jiraiya, managing the camp's records.

"It's been quite a while, indeed. It's good to be back." Minato replied with a slight smile.

They soon entered the camp, escorted by the ninjas.

"Minato, you're back! So now they call you the 'Yellow Flash of Konoha'? A public ninja, huh?" commented another ninja, approaching to greet them as soon as he saw them.

"Thank you... I guess. But, well, it's nice to see you again," Minato said, smiling slightly, feeling a bit embarrassed by the increased attention. Despite already being hailed as a hero on this front line, the recognition had grown with the news of his defeat of the Third Raikage, after being away for a year.

After some small talk, they proceeded to the main tent, passing by more ninjas who greeted him as soon as they saw him. Finally, they reached the tent where the current camp commander was waiting for them.

"Well, you're finally here, kid. It's good to have you. Unfortunately, as you know, Jiraiya-sama is no longer active in the war at the moment. I've been leading the camp since then," the commander said, using the formal suffix "sama" for Jiraiya, acknowledging his status as one of the Legendary Sannin, a high-ranking title within the village.

"Yes, now we have to work towards ending this war," Minato replied.

Victory seemed assured for Konoha at this point in the Land of Fire, as it held the advantage in nearly all battlefields. Even the north seemed stabilized. However, the worst situation for the Land of Fire was on its eastern border against the Hidden Mist Village, which wielded significant military power at the time and continued its relentless pressure.

Despite maximizing resources and support for the Uzumaki ninjas on that front, the Hokage remained tied to Konoha, burdened by the problems caused by the elders. Minato knew he had to act, as the war was being lost on that front, and he would not abandon Hanzo, who was overshadowed by the Uzumakis.

"Well, in any case, I assume you're active as of now. Do you have any requests regarding your activities?" the commander asked as Minato pondered for a moment.

"Yes, I would like your permission to visit the central and southern camps, if possible. There are some people I would like to see again," Minato said calmly.

"Of course! The hero of the Leaf Village deserves his moments too," the commander said with a smile. Minato thanked him, maintaining a composed demeanor.

"Just come to my tent later. We'll have a meeting among the camp leaders," he requested.

With that, the three jounins of Team 7 left. The team began setting up their tents in an old spot they had used before. Meanwhile, people from all over the camp came to greet them, as they had spent more than two years there and knew nearly everyone, except for a few who had joined after they left.

While catching up and chatting with old comrades, Minato made his way to the command tent after eating with the girls. It was already 8 PM. The place was bustling, filled with all the jounins—high-ranking ninjas responsible for various sectors of the camp. There were teams for organizing storage and supplies, others for managing camp records and data, and those tasked with surveillance.

Among them, the commander who had spoken to Minato upon his arrival at the camp was still present at the central position, leading the meeting.

"Now that you're here, we can begin," the commander said as everyone nodded. Minato waved at the leaders he recognized but hadn't yet spoken to. Even Vini Nara was there—the jounin who had assisted him in commanding the outpost of this camp nearly two years ago. It seemed Vini had been overseeing the outpost ever since.

"Yes, and it seems you were expecting me," Minato commented.

"Of course. Well, you know that now, without Jiraiya here for the past few months, we've weakened our position in the north a bit, as our camp is the main one dealing with the Land of Earth. Because of that, we reached a decision and even took a measure. We sent a letter to the Hokage requesting your return here, as we wanted you active in this area again," he admitted, while the others nodded.

Minato nodded, seeing no issue with this, as it was a normal occurrence. He had already spent a year training, achieved the goals he wanted, and that was what mattered.

The commander then continued, "We also came to another consensus: we want you to take command of the camp. You've already had experience managing an outpost, and it's time to learn how to develop strategies collaboratively with all the ninjas of the Leaf. After all, everyone now expects this from you. I hope this won't be a problem for you."

Minato wasn't exactly surprised by this; he could understand the man's perspective, as ninjas always sought to follow someone stronger. At this point, Minato was at the height of his career, renowned worldwide for his achievements—from rescuing the Daimyo of the Land of Fire to every battlefield he graced.

Despite being only 14 years old, he was already considered one of the Leaf's main powers, placing him alongside the Legendary Sannin, second only to the Hokage.

Additionally, his leadership would be beneficial for the camp, as Minato's mere presence bolstered troop morale, while many ninjas sought his guidance regardless of an official leader. This move was a strategic one, aimed at preventing the formation of factions within the camp.

"I've never managed a full camp before. You know that could be an issue, right?" Minato said honestly.

"We're aware of that, but we also know you're young. This could be excellent training, and we'll be here to support you. You've already succeeded in leading a smaller camp at the outpost, so why not here? Jiraiya himself wrote in a letter suggesting we give you the chance to prove your leadership," he replied, and Minato eventually nodded.

"Alright, I'll take the position, then," Minato said at last.

"That's good. You'll be in my place in three days. So, take some time off. Unless there's an emergency, you can visit whoever you need," the man said.

Minato nodded, discussing a few technical matters before leaving the tent and returning to his own.

Upon entering, he found Mikoto sitting on his bed, waiting for him—something that had become common.

"So, the new commander," she commented as she saw him. She had already discussed this with him and had concluded that it would happen. Meanwhile, Minato took off his vest in the middle of the tent and hung it on a rack.

"Commander Minato, at your service," he replied, flashing a smile.

"Then I'm at your orders," she laughed as well.

"You know you won't have the training time you wanted, don't you?" she continued, as Minato nodded while preparing simpler clothes to lie down in.

"That's true. But even so, I'll train whenever I can," he replied.

"You and your strange techniques," she muttered. "Anyway, I hope we still go on missions together and that you call on us when needed," she essentially demanded.

Minato nodded in agreement.

He walked to the bed, passing by Mikoto as he got comfortable, leaning his back against the headboard. In a natural motion, Mikoto moved closer as well, resting her head on his chest—a kind of contact they had maintained over the past few months.

"You know I'll probably have to live with you when the war ends, don't you?" she said, referring to the conversation they had with her father after the fight against the Raikage.

It was clear that that battle had proven Minato could stand against the entire Uchiha clan. The power he displayed in defeating a Kage head-on was something no one else could match.

This made many Uchiha, who previously looked at him with anger, become more cautious. When the two left the battlefield, Mikoto's father found them and went straight to the point, asking:

"Do you truly intend to be with Mikoto and take her as your wife?" he asked as he called them to talk outside the camp.

"I've already said it: Mikoto will be my wife. I'm willing to fight for it, even if I have to face the entire Uchiha clan," Minato responded firmly, looking the man directly in the eye.

At that moment, the man activated his Sharingan, as if challenging Minato. But the blonde showed no fear and continued without hesitation:

"It might sound selfish, but I love her. And I won't miss the chance to have her by my side," he said.

The man stared at him for some time before clicking his tongue. "Alright, boy. I won't interfere with this. But know that if the clan decides to fight you, they will. You'd better be prepared. After all, we've never had someone marry outside the clan, and I don't think the elders will easily accept it," he said seriously.

"I've already said it: if they really want to stop this, let them come. I'm ready to face them. Send anyone. Besides, your 'genius of the generation' has already challenged me—I hope he doesn't run away," Minato replied, referring to Fugaku Uchiha, who had been annoying him since their first encounter at the Northern Border.

Mikoto's father simply observed him for a moment before turning his back. Without saying another word, he left Minato and Mikoto alone. This was his way of accepting that his daughter would be with Minato.

It was obvious that Mikoto could be expelled from the clan once this news spread, but Minato didn't care. He even welcomed the idea, as she would then be entirely with him. If they tried to do anything against her, he wouldn't hesitate to confront them, even if they were Uchiha with red eyes.

The two stayed there for a while, talking about trivial things, more like a couple in love than ninjas in a war. Eventually, they fell asleep right there. Mikoto slept on Minato's chest, and he placed a pillow to support her head and covered them with a blanket.

The next day, they had breakfast together. While the girls went to train at Camp 12's training grounds, Minato was given leave to travel south, where he would meet someone important and visit a few acquaintances.

"So, you're leaving? Send my regards to Tsuna," Hanabi commented.

"Tell that Senju she'd better have gotten stronger. Otherwise, she'll lose the title worthy of my rival," Mikoto teased with a confident smile.

Minato simply nodded and said his goodbyes, disappearing and reappearing in a part of the forest near the medical camp. To his surprise, he found a blonde girl sitting close to where he had a Hiraishin seal.

She looked up, surprised, and upon seeing him, exclaimed, "I've been waiting for days for you, Minato!"

Before he could respond, Tsuna rushed forward to hug him, happy to finally see him again.
