Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Prophecy!
As soon as Uzumaki Raiden agreed to visit Mount Myoboku, Jiraiya eagerly bit his finger, quickly formed hand seals, and activated the Reverse Summoning Technique.
With a sudden whirlwind, Raiden and Jiraiya disappeared from the Land of Rain.
Arrival at Mount Myoboku
This was Raiden's first experience with spatial travel. The sensation was jarring—his surroundings plunged into darkness, and in the blink of an eye, he found himself in a completely unfamiliar place.
They had arrived in front of a massive waterfall. Golden oil poured from the top, cascading into a large pool below, where a stone sculpture of a toad spewed more of the strange liquid. Surrounding the area were lush, colorful plants that seemed almost otherworldly in their shapes and sizes.
Raiden, still slightly disoriented, was yanked back by Jiraiya.
"What are you pulling me for?" Raiden asked, giving Jiraiya a confused look.
Jiraiya pointed to the oil pool and explained, "I just saved your life. That oil attracts the natural energy around it. If you get splashed and don't know Sage Mode, you'll either turn into stone or go berserk."
Raiden nodded in understanding. He already knew about the dangerous properties of the oil, so Jiraiya's warning didn't surprise him. However, his calm reaction seemed strange to Jiraiya.
"You're not even asking why it's dangerous? Have you been to Mount Myoboku before?" Jiraiya looked at him suspiciously.
"I've never been here. This is my first time," Raiden replied nonchalantly as he took in the scenery. The sheer scale and beauty of Mount Myoboku left him quietly impressed.
Suddenly, a booming voice came from above.
"Jiraiya! Why have you returned to Mount Myoboku? And who's the kid with you?"
Raiden turned his gaze upward to see what he had initially thought was a mountain. Instead, it was a colossal toad. The creature, Toad Bunta, rolled over, revealing a long scar over one eye and a giant pipe near its mouth. It wore a black coat and had a massive sword strapped to its waist.
Meeting Toad Bunta
"Yo, Toad Bunta! Long time no see!" Jiraiya greeted cheerfully, wrapping an arm around Raiden's shoulder. "This is Uzumaki Raiden, from the clan of Lady Mito."
Bunta lowered his massive head to scrutinize Raiden.
"A brat from the Uzumaki clan, huh? Haven't seen one of you in a while."
Raiden stepped forward, smiling. "Hi, I'm Uzumaki Raiden. I don't have a summoning beast yet. How about being mine?"
"What did you just say, brat?" Bunta's tone grew sharp as he exhaled a puff of smoke, his massive presence suddenly intimidating. "You think you're worthy of signing a contract with me?"
Bunta burst into laughter, his pipe somehow staying in place despite his hearty guffaws.
"Well, if you're not interested, it's your loss," Raiden said with a shrug. "But I'm telling you, you'd be more famous following me than Jiraiya."
Jiraiya's face turned beet red in embarrassment. Quickly grabbing Raiden's arm, he muttered, "Let's go. We're heading to see Fukasaku and Shima."
As Jiraiya dragged Raiden away, the boy called out over his shoulder, "Toad Bunta, if you change your mind, let me know!"
Entering the Great Toad Sage's Chamber
As they approached the heart of Mount Myoboku, Raiden activated his Kagura's Mind Eye to sense the area. A massive chakra presence caught his attention—it was calm and serene, vastly different from the chaotic energy of the Nine-Tails.
"This must be the Great Toad Sage," Raiden thought, his curiosity piqued.
At last, they reached a towering building. Two large toads guarded the entrance but allowed them to pass without a word.
"Did they know we were coming?" Raiden mused as he followed Jiraiya inside.
At the end of the grand hall sat the Great Toad Sage on a raised stone platform adorned with ancient scrolls. The massive toad wore a necklace with the kanji for "oil" and exuded an aura of immense power.
"Little Jiraiya, you're here," the Great Toad Sage greeted in a slow, deep voice. Its gaze shifted to Raiden. "And this child… Who are you again?"
Sage Fukasaku, seated on a smaller platform nearby, interjected, "This is Uzumaki Raiden, the child you dreamed about, my lord."
The Great Toad Sage squinted at Raiden, as though trying to remember something.
"Ah, yes. I dreamed about you," the sage said at last. "Let me tell you what I saw…"
The Prophecy
"You will become a unique ninja, a shield for the world against distant enemies. Your actions will shape the path of others, deciding whether the world moves toward peace or destruction. The choice will rest in your hands."
The Great Toad Sage's words hung heavily in the air. Raiden furrowed his brow, trying to process the implications.
"Peace or destruction… in my hands?" Raiden murmured. "So I'm supposed to influence change, not lead it?"
"That's correct," the sage confirmed before closing its eyes once more.
Fukasaku and Shima gestured for Raiden not to ask further questions, sensing the sage's fatigue.
After the Prophecy
"So… he's the next 'Child of Prophecy'?" Jiraiya mused, his expression a mix of surprise and disbelief.
Raiden glared at him. "The 'Child of Prophecy'? Really? You've been throwing that title around like it's a party favor."
Jiraiya chuckled awkwardly, but Raiden quickly composed himself. Turning to Fukasaku and Shima, he bowed deeply. "Thank you for sharing this prophecy. I understand its significance."
The two elder toads exchanged glances before Fukasaku said, "Is there anything else you wish to ask, Raiden?"
Raiden hesitated before speaking. "Yes, I have one request. I'd like to learn Sage Mode."
Fukasaku smiled but shook his head. "You're not ready for it yet. However, if you continue to grow and prove yourself, the opportunity may arise."
