NARUTO: In the Era of Sannin

Chapter 26: CH26: Few Months

(Three Months Later)

In the training Ground,

The late afternoon sun bathed the training ground in a warm glow, but none of the four shinobi present paid it any mind. Dust and chakra residues swirled in the air, the aftermath of countless jutsu exchanges.

The training ground bore scars of their battle: scorched patches from fire jutsu, deep gouges in the earth from blade strikes, and uprooted debris scattered across the field.

At the center of the chaos stood Kagami Uchiha, holding a broken sword in one hand while forming seals with the other. His Sharingan, fully evolved with three tomoe, spun gracefully as it tracked every movement of his three students.

A bead of sweat rolled down his temple, but his wide grin revealed his exhilaration. Their growth was a source of pride, and he relished every moment of pushing them to their limits.

Meanwhile, his students weren't faring nearly as well.

All three were panting heavily, their bodies drenched in sweat. Bruises, cuts, and burns marked their exposed skin. Despite their exhaustion, none dared falter. They knew the consequences of failure all too well.

"Damn it, we've been at this for hours," Yuichi muttered between ragged breaths, his voice barely audible. He glanced at his teammates, Sakumo and Mio, who stood in formation with him. "We need to land a proper hit on him. No holding back this time, or we'll be stuck here until nightfall."

Sakumo, gripping his katana tightly, gave a curt nod. His sharp, calculating eyes betrayed no emotion.

"I'll create an opening with Mio's help," he whispered. "Yuichi, give it everything you've got when the chance comes. If you fail, Mio will deliver the finishing blow."

Mio wiped the sweat from her brow, her Sharingan active but dim from chakra exhaustion.

"Just don't mess it up," she muttered, though the tension in her voice was softened by the hint of camaraderie. She had grown accustomed to their team dynamics over the past three months, learning to trust their strategies even in the heat of battle.

Yuichi grimaced, clutching his side where a bruise throbbed painfully.

His chakra reserves were nearly depleted, but he knew there was no room for hesitation. This has to be the last attempt, he thought.

Activating his Lightning Enhancement would drain the dregs of his chakra, leaving him completely vulnerable if they failed. "Fine," he muttered. "One last push. Let's end this."

Sakumo took the lead, his katana glinting in the fading sunlight.

He dashed forward, his steps deliberate yet swift. Mio followed a few paces behind, her hands flying through hand seals as she prepared her next jutsu.

"Kunai incoming!" Mio called, throwing six projectiles toward Kagami.

The kunai whistled through the air. Kagami deflected them effortlessly with the remnants of his sword, but his Sharingan caught the faint glow of explosive seals attached to their handles.

Boom!

The explosion sent a plume of dust and debris into the air, obscuring Kagami's vision.

"Not bad," Kagami muttered, his eyes scanning the haze for movement. A flicker above caught his attention; Sakumo, descending like a hawk with his katana glowing pure white, a result of his focused chakra blade infusion with his lightning affinity.

The technique was a sum up of the understanding of his clan's lost techniques and his own creativity.

To reach this stage he got many failed attempts but with Kagami's guidance and continuous effort he pulled it off the very first version of what will in future reward him the nickname of 'white fang'.

It was the first time that Sakumo was using this technique in a fight but instead of feeling danger from the incoming attack, Kagami's eyes were shining brightly as this was something he had seen for the very first time.

Trying to gauge the potential of the nin-kenjutsu his student has recreated, he grinned widely. "Finally, a challenge."

He raised his broken blade to parry but froze mid-motion. A metallic clang rang out as Sakumo's enhanced katana sliced cleanly through his weapon. Kagami twisted his body, narrowly avoiding the blade's edge.

"Impressive," Kagami said, tossing the broken sword aside. He wove three quick hand seals, slamming his hands onto the ground. "Earth Style: Earth Dragon Jutsu!"

The ground beneath Sakumo erupted as a serpentine dragon of rock and dirt surged toward him.

Sakumo didn't flinch. His katana cut through the dragon's head with precision, splitting it in two. The ground trembled as the fragmented earth crumbled around him.

"Now!" Mio shouted, launching her next attack. "Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!"

A barrage of flaming projectiles shot toward Kagami, tearing through the air with destructive force. The heat from the flames scorched the earth, leaving charred scars in their wake.

Kagami smirked, his hands forming seals with blinding speed. "Body Replacement!" In an instant, he disappeared, leaving a smoking log in his place.

Mio's Sharingan scanned the area but found nothing. A faint rustle behind her was her only warning before a fist drove into her side. She gasped in pain as the force of the blow sent her skidding across the ground.

"Mio!" Sakumo shouted, his eyes blazing with determination.

"She's fine," Yuichi barked. "Stick to the plan!"

Yuichi gritted his teeth, his body sparking as he activated Lightning Enhancement. He darted forward, his speed a blur even to Kagami's 3 tomoe Sharingan. Sparks danced across his body, illuminating his long katana as he unsheathed it with practiced precision.

Kagami's eyes narrowed, tracking Yuichi's movements with difficulty. 'This speed… I can barely keep up. He's mastered his enhancement to an impressive degree'.

Yuichi's fighting style was unorthodox.

Unlike Sakumo, who wielded a short katana with textbook efficiency, Yuichi had chosen a two-handed longsword, a weapon requiring both power and finesse.

On top of that he wielded it with one hand, adding the difficulty of handling it and generation of strength behind the attacks. But still his strikes were heavy and deliberate, each swing calculated to exploit openings in his opponent's defenses.

This was the fruit of his hard work that he put in the last few months to create his own fighting style. As he took advice from the Kagami, who didn't force him to stick to the books he reached the style which he was currently using.

Also due to the well built muscles and high nerve and mind connections that he had, played a huge role making this unorthodox style possible.

Kagami parried the first few strikes with his kunai, but the force behind Yuichi's blows began to wear him down. The younger shinobi's relentless assault left little room for counterattacks.

'He's pushing me harder than I expected', Kagami thought, a flicker of pride in his gaze and a smirk on his mouth. But he wasn't done yet.

With a deft movement, he sidestepped Yuichi's overhead swing and retaliated with a sweeping kick aimed at his opponent's legs.

Yuichi anticipated the move, vaulting over Kagami's leg and bringing his katana down in a heavy arc. The blade struck the ground as Kagami dodged, sending a shockwave of sparks and debris in all directions.

"Don't lose focus!" Sakumo shouted, rejoining the fray. His katana clashed against Kagami's kunai, creating a cacophony of metallic echoes.

The battle became a blur of motion; blades clashing, jutsu exploding, and chakra rippling through the air. Kagami's Sharingan spun faster than ever, the strain evident in his eyes. Yet his grin never faltered.

"Come on!" Kagami taunted, his voice ringing with exhilaration. "Is that all you've got?"

Yuichi and Sakumo exchanged a glance. They didn't need words to communicate their next move.

With a burst of chakra, Sakumo feigned a high slash, drawing Kagami's attention.

At the same moment, Yuichi darted low, his katana aimed for Kagami's side. The combined attack left Kagami with no room to evade.

'Got you!' both thoughts.

At the last second, Kagami's Sharingan glinted ominously but stopped midway.

He just twisted his body, allowing Yuichi's blade to graze past his neck. A few strands of his hair got cut in the process but at the same time he was able to parry Sakumo's strikes .

A sharp pain shot through Yuichi's arms as Kagami's kunai nicked his wrist, forcing him to drop his weapon.

However the three shuriken from the back aimed for this correct moment gazed through Kagami's body, completing the task that both he and Sakumo was suffering to complete.

"Enough!" Kagami declared, his voice commanding.

The three genin froze, their breaths coming in ragged gasps. Kagami stood tall, his expression a mix of pride and exhaustion. "You've improved," he said, a rare note of genuine praise in his voice. "But you still have much to learn."

Yuichi collapsed to his knees, his chakra spent. "At least… we landed a hit," he muttered, a small smile tugging at his lips.

Sakumo sheathed his katana, offering a hand to Mio, who was still recovering from Kagami's earlier strike. "Not bad," he admitted grudgingly.

Mio smirked, wincing as she stood. "We're getting there."

Kagami's grin widened.

"Rest up, all of you. Tomorrow, we will push even harder." His body flickered from the training ground but watched them from a high place far away.

Kagami watched them leave, his Sharingan fading to black. They're growing stronger every day. Soon, they'll surpass even me.

But for now, he was content to push them harder than ever, knowing they were destined for greatness.
