Chapter 80: He's Golden Flash's Disciple.
"I can send my disciple, Uchiha Sasuke, to the battlefield to deal with the raccoon cat."
Kirito's calm words dropped into the room like a bomb.
Everyone froze in shock and confusion. Had they heard him correctly? Kirito, the experienced and powerful figure they all respected, was suggesting that Uchiha Sasuke—who lacked even the strength of a Chunin—should be sent to face Shukaku and resolve the crisis for Konoha and the Land of Fire?
Impossible. Was he serious?
The senior ninjas in the room exchanged bewildered glances, struggling to process what they had just heard. It was as though their entire understanding of the situation had been turned upside down.
Mitomon En's face darkened as he spoke, his voice tinged with disbelief.
"Kirito, what do you mean? Can you repeat what you just said?"
His eyes were filled with skepticism and dissatisfaction as he awaited a clarification.
Without hesitation, Kirito stood up, his piercing eyes locking onto the elder who had questioned him. A cold, commanding light emanated from his gaze, and his words were delivered with unshakable authority.
"I said that my disciple Sasuke will deal with Shukaku. Why? Do you have doubts?"
The room fell silent. No one dared to challenge him. The force of his presence was undeniable, and his words, though delivered simply, left no room for argument.
The tense atmosphere hung in the air, with everyone now uncertain how to respond.
Mitomon En's anger flared, but before he could speak, Utatane Koharu intervened, cutting through the tension.
"Enough," she said, her voice firm. "Kirito, are you certain about this? If we send your disciple, Uchiha Sasuke, to the battlefield and he fails, Konoha and the Land of Fire will suffer greatly."
Koharu's eyes narrowed as she stared at him, the implication clear: if Sasuke failed, Kirito would bear the blame for the losses.
Kirito smirked inwardly. Koharu was clearly trying to pin the potential disaster on him. If Sasuke succeeded, all would be well, but if he failed, the consequences would fall squarely on Kirito's shoulders. The political trap was obvious, but Kirito wasn't one to be intimidated.
"I only proposed it. The final decision is yours, as Konoha's leadership," Kirito replied coldly. "If you think it's a bad idea, just pretend I never said anything."
With that, he casually sat back down, lazily scratching his ear with his little finger. The nonchalance with which he dismissed the entire matter left Koharu momentarily speechless.
She had expected him to be serious, but instead, he had completely taken the wind out of her sails.
Koharu was stunned. Was this the same Kirito who had been so authoritative moments ago? She had tried to confront him, but now he seemed entirely indifferent.
She found herself at a loss for words.
Mitomon En, his face flushed with anger, was about to lash out when Kirito's behavior only deepened the awkward silence in the room.
Just as the tension reached its peak, Sarutobi Hiruzen, who had remained quiet until now, slowly rose from his seat. With a puff of smoke from his pipe, he broke the uneasy stillness.
"I agree with Kirito's proposal," Hiruzen said calmly. "Let's send his disciple, Uchiha Sasuke, to deal with Shukaku."
The room was struck by the shock of his words. No one had expected Hiruzen, the former Hokage, to back Kirito's controversial suggestion. They were left speechless, unsure of how to respond.
Before Mitomon En could challenge Hiruzen's decision, Koharu, now recovering from her anger, finally understood Hiruzen's reasoning.
She realized that Kirito, though unwilling to personally intervene, had found a clever way to put Sasuke in the line of fire. If Sasuke succeeded, Kirito would have gained an unexpected ally. But if Sasuke failed, and especially if he were injured or killed by Shukaku, Kirito's fury would undoubtedly turn on the Sand Ninja army, making them pay dearly for their actions.
Koharu's lips pressed into a thin line as she begrudgingly accepted the situation.
"Alright," she said, reluctantly agreeing. "I concur with Sarutobi Hiruzen. Uchiha Sasuke will go to the battlefield."
With that, the meeting ended in a hasty decision. Koharu, still fuming from Kirito's attitude, quickly left the room.
The jonin present exchanged confused glances, still struggling to grasp the full weight of the decision. But as the elders had spoken, they had no choice but to follow the orders.
Soon, an Anbu ninja found Sasuke training in the woods outside Konoha Village. Wordlessly, the ninja handed him a document before disappearing into the trees.
Sasuke, confused, opened the letter. His eyes widened when he saw the task assigned by Konoha's leadership. The mission was clear: he was to deal with Shukaku, under the direction of his teacher, Kirito.
Sasuke's Sharingan flickered, and his usual three tomoe transformed into a more intricate five-pointed star pattern. In an instant, the letter vanished from his hand, and Sasuke disappeared into the forest, ready for whatever lay ahead.
Meanwhile, the Sand Ninja army, exhausted after weeks of conquest, was encamped at Kikyo Mountain. Despite their weariness, their morale remained high under Gaara's leadership, and they were prepared to continue their campaign.
But as they reveled in their victories, an uninvited guest suddenly breached their camp, setting the stage for an unexpected clash.
