Chapter 31: Where is the Root Base?
Orochimaru looked down at the corpse of his strongest summoned beast, the Man Snake. His eyes were blank, filled with disbelief.
*This Kirito... is stronger than the rumors say.*
Much stronger than he had imagined.
The Man Snake, a summoned beast from the Ryuchi Cave Snake Clan, had terrifying defensive abilities—its resilience was such that even several Kage-level ninjas could only resist a joint attack for a moment. Yet, Kirito had kicked its head off effortlessly.
To think that Danzo had sent him to eliminate Kirito with the promise of some reward... No wonder the old man agreed to the deal so willingly. If Kirito is this strong, then Danzo had no intention of sending me to defeat him. *He really is more cunning than I thought. When I'm done with this, I'll go back and settle accounts with you, Root.*
Orochimaru cursed Danzo under his breath. Despite the shock, the legendary ninja kept his face relatively calm, thinking quickly about how to handle the situation.
Kirito, having kicked the snake out of existence, landed lightly on the ground as if nothing had happened. His calm gaze locked onto Orochimaru.
Orochimaru noticed the intensity of Kirito's stare and felt a tightening in his chest. He took a deep breath and steadied himself.
"What benefits did Shimura Danzo promise you?" Kirito's voice was cold, his words precise.
*So, you want to get answers from me?* Orochimaru sneered inwardly. He smirked and replied, "Guess."
Kirito raised an eyebrow slightly. *You think I'm a child? Do you think I'll entertain your games?*
A subtle smile tugged at the corners of Kirito's lips, but when Orochimaru saw it, he felt a chill run down his spine.
*I thought I was the darkest ninja in the world, but this... This guy is darker than me.*
Orochimaru, sensing the danger from Kirito's smile, quickly shifted his strategy. He opened his mouth, and from it, a small, colorful snake slithered out. Orochimaru quickly pulled a sword from the snake's mouth—the legendary Kusanagi Sword.
With the Kusanagi sword in hand, Orochimaru regained some of the confidence he had lost. The Kusanagi sword wasn't just any weapon—it was made from the hardest material in the world and could be manipulated by its wielder to adjust its length. Its sharpness was such that even a creature with a diamond body would feel pain if it made contact with it.
Orochimaru knew Kirito had tremendous offensive power, but what could he do against his sword? He was certain that with one strike, Kirito would be finished.
Yet when Kirito saw Orochimaru holding the Kusanagi sword, he simply raised his hands, forming photons in his palms that quickly condensed into a golden blade—the *Sky Cloud Sword*.
Orochimaru raised an eyebrow. *What kind of weapon is that?*
But he dismissed the thought. After all, he had the Kusanagi sword, the ultimate weapon. With it, he was sure victory was his.
The battle escalated as Orochimaru dashed toward Kirito, his steps so fast they seemed to blur. In the blink of an eye, he reached Kirito and thrust the Kusanagi sword toward his chest.
Kirito, however, simply raised his Sky Cloud Sword to block the attack effortlessly. Orochimaru, surprised by Kirito's quick reflexes, continued his assault. He swung the sword again and again, but each blow was deflected with ease.
"Dang! Dang! Dang!" The clash of metal rang through the air as the two exchanged blows, Orochimaru's attacks growing more desperate.
In a swift motion, Orochimaru spat out a kunai, aiming for Kirito's weak spot, but Kirito merely tilted his body slightly, avoiding the attack with ease.
Orochimaru's heart skipped a beat. His sneak attack had failed.
*What is this?* Orochimaru thought. *Can he predict my moves?*
His palm, gripping the Kusanagi sword, began to ache. The strength of Kirito's weapon and the precision of his attacks were starting to wear him down. Orochimaru had a realization—his strength alone would not be enough to defeat Kirito.
Perhaps it was time to retreat.
Without hesitation, Orochimaru turned and sprinted into the woods, planning to regroup and return with a better strategy.
But Kirito saw through his intentions. Smirking, Kirito vanished in a flash of golden light, reappearing right in front of Orochimaru.
Orochimaru's heart pounded. For the first time in years, he felt genuine fear. This man—Kirito—wasn't just a ninja; he was something far more terrifying.
Orochimaru quickly adapted his strategy, snapping his head forward like a snake's strike, aiming for Kirito's neck. His fangs glinted as he tried to land the final blow—hoping to use the curse seal to control Kirito.
But as his mouth closed around Kirito's neck, Orochimaru's teeth met nothing but air. Kirito had vanished once again, his body turning into golden light.
Orochimaru froze. *What happened?* he thought. *Where did he go?*
Then, a smile appeared on Kirito's face as he reappeared in front of him.
Kirito's grin widened. *I'm faster than you can bite.*
Orochimaru realized then that he was outmatched. He couldn't fight back. He couldn't even land a blow. Not only was Kirito stronger, but his ability to move faster than Orochimaru could process made him utterly untouchable.
Desperately, Orochimaru spoke, "I'll cooperate. Just promise me 100 test subjects and Uchiha Sasuke."
Kirito nodded indifferently, his expression unwavering. "I will find you a perfect body from the Uchiha clan," he said calmly. "One with the Mangekyō Sharingan."
Orochimaru was stunned. He had heard of Kirito's power, but this? The prospect of acquiring the Sharingan was too tempting. *I could get my hands on the power of the Uchiha clan...*
Orochimaru, though hesitant, agreed. "Alright... I'll cooperate."
Kirito's golden sword vanished into thin air, and he fixed his gaze on Orochimaru. "Now, tell me, where is the Root base?"
Orochimaru paused for a moment, then reluctantly revealed the information, understanding that he had no choice but to cooperate.
The tables had turned, and now it was Kirito who held all the cards.
