Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Spiral Pills
Amidst the ruins of the battlefield, the Konoha shinobi stood tense, their breaths shallow as they took in the sight before them. The dense mist rolled ominously, thickening with every passing second, sending a chill down their spines.
The oppressive atmosphere made it nearly impossible to focus, especially with the presence of two of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist—Kuromaru of the Watermelon Mountain Clan and Ringo Ameyuri, the infamous wielder of Kiba, the twin lightning swords.
Moonlight Hayate swallowed hard, his grip tightening on his blade. His instincts screamed at him—this was no ordinary battle. "We don't stand a chance," he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. "Hurry up and call Qin Yu! If he doesn't come now, we're all dead!"
"Qin Yu?" Ringo Ameyuri raised an eyebrow, amusement flickering in her sharp eyes. "Who's that supposed to be? Never heard of him."
Her smirk widened as she spun Kiba in her hands, the crackling of lightning filling the air. "You're not trying to bluff your way out of this, are you? That might work against the Cloud shinobi, but we're not so easily scared."
Her mocking words sent a wave of laughter through the ranks of the Hidden Mist shinobi. Even Kuromaru chuckled, his massive frame shaking with mirth.
"Alright, enough playing around," Kuromaru finally said, his deep voice carrying authority. "Let's finish them quickly." His gaze then fell on Yūgao Uzuki, his smirk widening into something more sinister. "But this one… this one's mine."
Yūgao felt a shiver run down her spine as his predatory gaze lingered on her. The bloodlust rolling off him was suffocating.
"Yūgao, listen!" Hayate barked urgently. "I'll hold them off—go warn Qin Yu! Lord Fourth isn't here, and he's the only one who can stop them now!"
The remaining Konoha shinobi, already strung tight with nerves, didn't hesitate. At Hayate's command, they swiftly formed hand seals, preparing to erect a barrier.
But Kuromaru merely laughed. "Too late!"
Without warning, the mist thickened unnaturally, swallowing the battlefield in an instant.
"Shit!" Hayate hissed. "It's the Hidden Mist Jutsu—perfect for silent killing!" He reached for his sword, his senses on high alert. "Yūgao, be careful!"
A chuckle echoed through the mist, followed by Kuromaru's voice, low and menacing. "Be careful? Oh no, it's far too late for that."
Yūgao barely had time to react before she felt his presence right in front of her. She tensed, instinctively moving to dodge, but the mist was too thick—she couldn't see, couldn't tell where the attack was coming from.
Then, just as despair began to creep in, a brilliant blue light cut through the mist like a falling star.
The next moment, a powerful burst of chakra sent a shockwave rippling through the fog, momentarily clearing it.
Kuromaru's smug grin faltered. His eyes widened as he saw the spiraling sphere of chakra hurtling toward him.
"Rasengan?!" His muscles tensed as he reacted on pure instinct, crossing his massive arms in front of him just in time to block.
BOOM!
The Rasengan connected with an earth-shattering force, sending a deafening explosion through the battlefield.
The sheer impact sent Kuromaru flying like a cannonball. His enormous body crashed into several Mist shinobi, sending them tumbling like ragdolls.
His flight only ended when he slammed into a thick tree a hundred meters away. The trunk cracked under the impact, then snapped completely, toppling to the ground with a thunderous crash.
For a moment, there was nothing but stunned silence. Even Ringo Ameyuri, normally unfazed, stood frozen, staring at Kuromaru's fallen form.
Everyone knew how terrifying Kuromaru was, especially in the Mist's deadly silent killing formations.
And yet, he had been taken down in an instant.
This… was not what they had expected.
