Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Return of the Byakugan
"Oops, I might have gone too far. I don't even know if Hinata's eyes were affected by my jutsu—I hope they weren't damaged!" Shin muttered to himself.
After some quick treatment, Hinata, standing beside Sarah, replied softly, "My eyes don't matter. We should leave this place—the Hidden Cloud Village is too dangerous."
Several rescued ninjas nearby overheard. They exchanged complicated looks, realizing that Hinata might be blind now; otherwise, anyone could see that Shin was the 'danger', not Hidden Cloud Village.
"Fortunately, the Raikage Building wasn't affected by my Dark Forest Jutsu. There should be ninjas there who know what happened to Hinata's eyes," Shin thought, ignoring Hinata's words. He was determined not to let her go blind.
As he walked toward the Raikage Building, Shin couldn't shake a sinking feeling. 'If my Dark Forest Jutsu destroyed Hinata's eyes... where could I find another set of Byakugan for her? Would I need to go to the moon and take a Tenseigan?'
Upon reaching the Raikage Building, Shin sensed that the ninjas inside were beginning to evacuate. Not interested in playing hide-and-seek, he turned his back to them, his eyes transforming into the Rinnegan, and then floated into the air, rising directly to the top of the Raikage Building.
"Universal Pull!"
A powerful gravitational force shook the entire Raikage Building. The faces of the ninjas inside, who were hurriedly packing documents, paled in horror, yet they had already lost their last chance to escape.
Shin's gravitational pull lifted the Raikage Building entirely, and then a black mist engulfed the structure. Moments later, he released it, letting it settle back to the ground. The ninjas inside, drained of their chakra, were left completely defenseless.
Shin approached the defeated ninjas, his Mangekyō Sharingan glaring at them, and they began spilling information without hesitation.
Among the captives was a Raikage secretary named Mabui, who held the most critical information.
"Huh? So one of Hinata's eyes is still here in the Raikage Building, while the other one has already been transplanted—to that damned Kumo ninja who kidnapped her?"
"And now, that thief has gone to the frontlines?"
Shin snorted, his anger ebbing as he decided not to harm Mabui. Besides, her looks gave him pause; appearance had a way of tempering his reaction when circumstances allowed.
Inside the Raikage Building, Shin was amazed by its resilience—it hadn't fallen apart despite being uprooted and thrown back from the dark dimension. Its interior was chaotic, though, and he spent a good ten minutes cleaning up with the rescued ninjas. Although many Kumo ninjas observed from a distance, none dared to approach.
Although Kumo had a reputation for fearlessness and was famed for their boldness, even they knew better than to approach someone truly invincible.
In addition to finding Hinata's Byakugan, Shin discovered Kumo's inheritance scroll, akin to Konoha's Scroll of Seals. For Kumo, who ignored caution in pursuit of power, nothing was sealed away; instead, it became an inheritance scroll.
"The Lightning Release Chakra Mode... I wonder if it could be combined with the Eight Gates. With my physical strength and chakra control, I might be able to merge the two."
"Even if that fails, the techniques that use lightning chakra to enhance body speed, nerve reflexes, and physical power will be useful."
He skimmed through the scroll and tucked it away, satisfied with the haul.
Finally, Shin returned Hinata's Byakugan. Tears streamed down her cheeks as her sight returned. Shin wanted to replace her other eye as well, but she declined.
"One eye is enough, onii-san," Hinata said softly, her gaze sweeping over the Kumo ninja with a glint of hate. "Someday, I'll get my eye back!"
Shin noticed her demeanor shifting, a sign of growing resilience. He didn't comment, knowing even a young child would be affected by such hardships.
He gently patted her head. "Don't worry, you won't have to wait long. I'll be heading to the battlefield in two days. I'll bring back your eye."
"What arrogance! So, it's you who destroyed Hidden Cloud Village?"
A stern voice echoed, followed by faint blue fireballs racing toward Shin.
Sensing the arrival, Shin snorted, raising a hand filled with dark mist that absorbed the fireballs instantly.
"The Two-Tails Jinchuriki, Yugito?" Shin asked coldly, eyeing the girl in front of him who looked about his age.
"Yes, and you must be the Kurogami who wreaked havoc on Konoha. I never thought you'd dare step foot in Kumo! Do you think we're as weak as Konoha?"
Yugito's expression was icy as she taunted him while Shin mockingly glanced around at the trembling Kumo ninjas.
"Honestly, I don't see much difference between you and Konoha," he replied with a shrug.
"Enough with the chatter. What's your purpose in Kumo?" Yugito demanded.
"Oh, I took on a mission from Konoha—to help them win this battle."
"What? How despicable! Konoha suffers because of you, and now they have the nerve to hire you?"
"And you! Accepting a mission from Konoha? Aren't they your enemy?"
Shin raised an eyebrow. Despite his complicated history with Konoha, he didn't honestly harbor a grudge. They had once forced him to the battlefield, but he'd escaped, gained valuable skills, and acquired a solid foundation in ninjutsu from them.
His reasons for challenging Konoha were rooted in his interests and goals.
But instead of explaining all that, he simply answered with a smirk.
"Because… Konoha pays well!"
