Chapter 139: Chapter 141
"This guy..." Yuhi Kurenai muttered as she looked at the spot where Kirito had vanished. She was at a loss for words. Though she knew Kirito wouldn't kill anyone in Konoha, she hadn't anticipated him causing such a massive commotion.
As soon as the barrier completely disappeared, Kurenai hurried in with a group of medical ninjas.
With Kirito gone, everyone—including the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen—heaved a sigh of relief. The tension that had gripped them finally eased.
The Genin, who had been paralyzed by fear, collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath as their strength left them. Only Naruto stood there, his eyes filled with loneliness and sorrow.
In that moment, Naruto hated his own weakness more than ever. A thought nagged at him: If I were stronger, would Brother Kirito have stayed?
Kakashi, clutching his injured right arm, glanced at Naruto and sighed heavily. The events of the day had left a deep scar on his heart as well. "I'm afraid today's events have been a significant blow to Naruto," Kakashi thought solemnly.
"We're saved!" Kankuro exclaimed, his voice trembling as he let out a shaky breath.
"It's not safe here. We need to leave immediately," Temari added, nodding in agreement. Together, the two siblings helped Gaara to his feet and prepared to leave.
At that moment, Yuhi Kurenai arrived with a team of medical ninjas.
"Hokage-sama," Kurenai said, bowing respectfully before Sarutobi Hiruzen.
"Kurenai, thanks to you, we were all saved." Sarutobi Hiruzen gave Kurenai a complicated look, his pride wounded. The man known as the "strongest Hokage of all generations" had been thoroughly humiliated by a renegade. To make matters worse, his life had been saved by a woman, highlighting his vulnerability.
"Hokage-sama, you're too kind," Kurenai replied humbly. "This is all my fault. If I had guided Kirito better, perhaps this situation wouldn't have come to pass."
Hiruzen sighed, realizing he needed to project the image of a magnanimous leader despite his internal turmoil. "This isn't your fault. The blame lies with me as Hokage. Now, focus on treating the injured."
"Yes, Hokage-sama," Kurenai replied. She immediately directed the medical team to tend to Might Guy, Gekko Hayate, and the other injured ninjas, placing them on stretchers.
"I've examined them," Kurenai said as she approached Kakashi. "Might Guy and Gekko Hayate were not fatally injured. They should survive with proper treatment. How are you holding up?"
Kakashi grimaced. "Not great. My wrist is dislocated, and the bones might be cracked. But otherwise, I'm fine." He paused and then added with a wry smile, "Your former student is extraordinary, Kurenai. Whether it's his genjutsu, ninjutsu, or taijutsu, Kirito has mastered them all to a ridiculous degree. I've never faced someone so strong. If you hadn't arrived in time, things could have turned out much worse."
Kurenai nodded as she carefully reset Kakashi's wrist and applied a makeshift bandage. "I've reset your bones. Head to the hospital for proper treatment. You'll recover soon." Without waiting for a reply, she turned and left to oversee the medical team.
Meanwhile, Haruno Sakura, standing nearby, watched Kurenai depart. She turned to Kakashi with a puzzled expression. "Sensei," Sakura asked hesitantly, "Why did Kirito leave when Kurenai-sensei showed up? Is she stronger than him? Was he… scared?"
Hearing her question, everyone nearby leaned in, curious about the answer.
"No," Kakashi said, shaking his head with a tired sigh. "It's not that. Kirito left because he was once Kurenai-sensei's student."
Elsewhere, Kirito walked out of Konoha's gates, moving toward the designated meeting point with Dai Takako and Pakura. Waiting for him there was Kisame Hoshigaki, who had been stationed outside the village.
"Lord Kirito, are you alright?" Pakura asked, stepping forward with concern as Kirito arrived.
"I'm fine," Kirito replied nonchalantly. "I just played around with the Konoha ninjas for a while."
Kisame approached with his trademark grin. "As expected of Lord Kirito," he said, his tone dripping with admiration. "To face the best Konoha has to offer and walk away unscathed—what a spectacle!"
Kirito chuckled softly. "Konoha was once the greatest ninja village, but its strength has dwindled under the leadership of Hiruzen and Danzo. Frankly, there aren't many ninjas left in that village worth mentioning."
"What about the ones you fought today?" Uchiha Itachi asked, his voice calm but tinged with curiosity.
Kirito raised an eyebrow, surprised by the question. "You, of all people, care about Konoha's ninjas? Interesting. I thought someone who could kill his own family wouldn't care about such things."
Before Itachi could respond, Kirito continued, "But don't worry. I didn't kill anyone. I don't have any personal grudge against them."
"Might Guy was a concern. I was worried he might open the Eight Gates, so I incapacitated him with a blow to his spine."
"Gekko Hayate attempted a sneak attack, but I dealt with him easily, leaving a deep wound on his back."
"Kakashi tried to ambush me with Raikiri, but I intercepted him and dislocated his wrist."
"As for Asuma Sarutobi…" Kirito smirked. "Let's just say he was so weak, I'm starting to think his elite jonin title was a gift from his father."
"Using a simple genjutsu, I made Asuma believe he was torturing me. In reality, he ended up torturing himself under Morino Ibiki's infamous Summoning: Torture Chamber Technique."
Hearing Kirito's recount, Dai Takako let out a sigh of relief. "That's Ibiki's signature technique," she explained to the group. "It creates a pocket dimension filled with torture tools. Both the target and the caster endure equal pain. I'm surprised Ibiki lasted as long as he did."
Kirito chuckled. "No wonder the poor guy fainted after the technique ended."
Kisame scratched his head and asked, "Lord Kirito, I've placed a Rain ninja's corpse as a decoy. Konoha will find it soon enough. What should we do next?"
Kirito glanced at Kisame, then at the horizon. "The Konoha Crush plan starts during the Chunin Exam finals. Until then, we need to lay low. Find a hot spring town nearby."
"Hot springs?" Kisame blinked, confused. "Why a hot spring?"
Kirito rolled his eyes. "Do you really want to sit around for a month doing nothing? We need to stay sharp."
