Chapter 69: Obito’s Plan! Kakashi’s Mangekyō and His Identity Exposed!

Chapter 69: Obito's Plan! Kakashi's Mangekyō and His Identity Exposed!

A gentle breeze swept through the air.

In a secluded forest within the village of Konoha, a swirling vortex suddenly appeared.

From the vortex emerged a masked figure—it was Obito.

Previously, when Kakashi went on a mission, Obito had secretly followed, spying on his old friend from the shadows. However, Zetsu appeared out of nowhere, informing him of Ishihara's presence in Konoha, forcing Obito to reluctantly return to the village.

"Did you figure out Ishihara's objective?"

Obito paced back and forth, anxious.

Ever since the Mist Village fell to Ishihara, Obito had been pondering how to deal with him. He knew that with Ishihara's mastery of space-time ninjutsu, capturing him would be difficult, and killing him even harder.

But he wasn't entirely without a plan—implementing it, however, would be a significant challenge. Before anything else, he needed to reclaim the Mangekyō Sharingan he had left with Kakashi, which was the reason he had been following him recently. He was still undecided.

But now that Ishihara had arrived in Konoha and Kakashi was about to return from his mission, they were bound to meet soon. Obito didn't know if Ishihara, who had seen his true face, had investigated him yet. He didn't want to take that risk!

So, before Kakashi and Ishihara could meet, he had to reclaim his Mangekyō.

"Based on the intelligence we've gathered, he seems to be here for Konoha's secret techniques and the Sharingan," Zetsu's voice carried a heavy tone. He too understood how terrifying Ishihara's ability to develop secret techniques was. Given Konoha's resources, it was hard to imagine how powerful Ishihara might become if he got his hands on those techniques.

He would undoubtedly become the greatest obstacle to the Eye of the Moon Plan!

Hearing this, Obito fell silent.

After a long pause, he spoke softly, "Do you think Ishihara will hinder our Eye of the Moon Plan?"

"He's already mastered the Lightning Release Chakra Mode, genjutsu rivaling the Mangekyō, and space-time ninjutsu! Add to that the Sharingan and the Byakugan! To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if he develops the Mangekyō Sharingan in the future, or even the Wood Release."

Obito hesitated, then continued, "Perhaps even the Rinnegan…"

Black Zetsu immediately grasped his implication. Could Ishihara develop the Rinnegan in the future?

He wanted to say it was impossible, but he couldn't. The Rinnegan was indeed complex, but Ishihara had already managed to develop the Sharingan despite not having Uchiha blood. Developing the Rinnegan wasn't beyond the realm of possibility.

After a moment, Black Zetsu asked, "Have you considered having Nagato take action?"

Obito frowned and sighed, "Of course, but if it's just the Six Paths of Pain, the chances of success aren't high. Unless Nagato fully recovers and can use the full extent of the Six Paths' powers."

But if Nagato fully recovered, it would be uncertain whether Obito could still control him. More importantly, he wasn't sure if a fully recovered Nagato could even defeat Ishihara. If Nagato failed and then went rogue, it would be a disastrous loss.

After contemplating, Black Zetsu suggested in a low voice, "Why don't we start capturing the Tailed Beasts now?"

Obito's interest was piqued.

Seeing this, Black Zetsu quickly added, "Although one of the Tailed Beasts is still in the process of reincarnating, we can start by capturing the others. Ishihara is powerful now, but he's not as strong as the First Hokage or Madara at their peak. If we complete the Eye of the Moon Plan in advance, Ishihara won't pose a threat."

Obito nodded in agreement. This indeed seemed like the best course of action for now.

"But before that, I need to reclaim my Mangekyō!"

Obito's expression turned complicated. The Sharingan had once been a gift to Kakashi, a symbol of their bond. Now, taking it back left a weight in his heart.

...

Meanwhile, elsewhere within the Land of Fire.

Kakashi and his ANBU squad had just completed their mission when they received urgent intelligence from the Third Hokage.

The message was brief: Ishihara had arrived in Konoha!

Upon reading it, Kakashi immediately led his team back to the village in a rush, a deep sense of unease creeping into his heart.

"Why is Ishihara in Konoha?"

Recalling their last encounter, Kakashi felt an overwhelming pressure. It wasn't just the difference in their combat abilities; more than that, it was the feeling Ishihara gave him, as if he were some higher being observing his prey, conducting experiments in the entire ninja world.

Because of this, Kakashi had an odd feeling that Ishihara wasn't all that dangerous.

He sighed. "I don't know if Ishihara's presence this time is a good thing or a bad thing."

Recently, the situation in Konoha had become increasingly tense, with open conflicts and covert power struggles between the Uchiha and the village's upper echelons. It left Kakashi deeply troubled. He had taken on this mission to avoid those disputes, yet it seemed he couldn't escape them after all.

"Enemy attack!"

Suddenly, Yamato's voice rang out, snapping Kakashi to attention. His pupils shrank in alarm.

In front of them, smoke billowed as the ground shook and trembled violently. Wind and Earth Release jutsus were being used in a fierce and overwhelming attack.

The enemy was undoubtedly strong.

Kakashi's heart grew heavy. He hadn't expected an ambush on their way back. With a sharp shout, he ordered, "Scatter!"

At once, the ANBU members scattered in different directions. Kakashi quickly ducked behind a large tree, pressing his back against the trunk, preparing to quietly assess the situation.

But suddenly, a chilling sensation ran down his spine. His hair stood on end as he instinctively turned around, his pupils shrinking in horror.

A figure had appeared right in front of him, and a hand was already reaching for his eye!

Kakashi's heart pounded in terror.

"Damn it!!!"

He hadn't noticed anything—how terrifying!

Without thinking, he moved to dodge, but—

Swoosh, swoosh!

Two tree vines, which had grown from the nearby trees, swiftly wrapped around his body, trapping him.

Kakashi was utterly shocked, unable to believe it.

"Wood Release?!!"

Did Yamato betray Konoha? Or had the enemy mastered Wood Release?!

But Obito didn't give him any time to think.

With a swift motion, Obito cleanly gouged out Kakashi's eye. The three-tomoe Sharingan behind Obito's mask glared at him.

"Sharingan?! Who the hell are you?!"

Kakashi was so shocked by the sudden turn of events that he couldn't even process the pain of losing his eye. His mind raced. His opponent possessed both the Sharingan and Wood Release—who could they possibly be?

Obito stared at Kakashi, his gaze filled with nostalgia, hatred, killing intent, and reluctance. In a low voice, he said:

"This is your punishment."

With that, Obito sank into the ground and disappeared.

Boom!

That look in his eyes... An impossible name suddenly flashed through Kakashi's mind, leaving him in utter disbelief. He murmured under his breath:

"Impossible. Obito is dead. It can't be him."

But the mysterious figure's gaze kept bringing him back to thoughts of Obito.
