Chapter 64: Ch 64 : Ayano and Ayari

In the bathroom, Makoto leaned against the wall, breathing heavily, while the shower's water poured down on him, cascading over his body, tracing the lines of his muscles as it flowed downward.

At this moment, every inch of his skin seemed to tremble slightly, as though something inside his flesh was wriggling.

Makoto was using his own chakra to stimulate the muscles throughout his body, aiming for the most perfect training effect.

This method of training could only be done by him, someone capable of making chakra vibrate at high frequencies.

But the process looked incredibly agonizing.

There was a faint expression of pain on Makoto's face as he kept tilting his head back and gasping for air.

If the results weren't so significant, he would never put himself through such torture.

After a long while, the trembling of his body finally stopped, but the pain hadn't completely dissipated.

Makoto gasped for breath, leaning against the wall, shivering.

He stumbled over to the sink, looking at himself in the mirror.

The terrifying scar on his chest had faded considerably compared to before.

Makoto suddenly felt that he had changed, though not in terms of his physical appearance.

The face in the mirror looked much colder and harder than he remembered.

Is this how I usually appear to others...?

He tugged at the corner of his mouth and suddenly flashed a gentle, sunny smile, looking like the kind of boy who would easily win the affection of others.

But as the smile faded, it was as if he had become a different person.

His black eyes lost all gleam, giving off a sense of unease that made people feel inexplicably unsettled.

It's a pity I didn't become an actor in my previous life…

Makoto thought to himself.

"Towel."

He called out toward the outside.

As soon as his words fell, the bathroom door was pushed open, and Ayano entered holding a white towel.

Upon seeing Makoto in this state, her eyes shifted slightly, and she instinctively lowered her head.

Makoto stretched his body and let out a satisfied sound.

Ayano began to wipe off the water from his body with the towel.

But as she looked at Makoto, whose physique didn't resemble that of an ordinary teenage boy, she suddenly, without thinking, reached out and touched the skin on his back.

What she felt was warm and firm.

"What are you touching?" Makoto suddenly asked.

Ayano hurriedly pulled her hand back and continued wiping his body.

"The dinner is ready," Ayano suddenly said softly.

"...I also made a dish. It's something I just learned."

Seeing that Makoto didn't respond, Ayano felt a little disappointed.

She then knelt on the bathroom floor and continued her task with the towel.

Makoto put on loose clothes and walked out of the bathroom feeling refreshed.

Akiri had already set the table.

Upon seeing Makoto, she quickly bowed.

Makoto glanced at the dishes on the table and immediately recognized which one Ayano had made.

The fish, which looked a little sad, was lying on the plate, standing out against the other delicate dishes.

Seeing Makoto staring at the fish without saying anything, Akiri quickly explained,

"This was made by Ayano. She's only just started learning to cook, but she's improving quickly."

Makoto asked, "Why didn't she start with something simple?"

Akiri felt a bit awkward, "It was her choice to make fish, so I taught her how."

Makoto picked up his chopsticks and took a bite.

The next second, he spat it out.

Akiri, noticing his reaction, hurriedly stepped forward and took the fish away.

"I'm sorry, Lord Makoto. I'll make sure to properly teach Ayano how to cook next time."

Makoto sighed helplessly, "Just take it away."

He couldn't help but think, In the original story, Hinata came across as the perfect homemaker, but why are both Ayano and Ayari so talentless when it comes to cooking?

Akiri removed the fish, leaving Makoto alone at the table to eat.

His appetite was massive; he could finish three to four bowls of rice by himself.

Ayano emerged from the bathroom, still wiping the corner of her mouth with her hand to remove some lingering moisture.

When she saw the dining table, she froze for a moment.

Makoto stated directly, "The fish was terrible, so it was taken away."

Ayano lowered her head and bowed. "…I'm sorry. I'll work harder from now on."

Makoto understood that Ayano was trying to win his favor.

She was fully aware that he was the only person she could rely on at this point.

"Start with simpler dishes," Makoto suggested.

But Ayano kept apologizing.

After Makoto finished his meal, Ayano took the initiative to clean up.

Compared to when she first arrived, she had become much more conscientious, fully aware of her situation and status.

However, aside from Makoto and Akiri, she refused to speak to anyone else.

The other servants in the house often looked at her with strange, mocking expressions.

To them, it was satisfying to see the once-noble woman, who used to boss them around as the future clan leader's wife, reduced to such a state—now no different from a servant like them.

No, even lower than them! After all, she was the fiancée of that criminal, Hiashi!

Ayano could easily guess what these people were thinking, but she had no intention of stooping to their level.

She silently endured the daily humiliation that came with her current situation.

One day, when Makoto changed his opinion of her, she could return to her rightful position.

For now, her only task was to serve Makoto well.

Ayari would often come to see her, usually when Makoto was not around.

The two would sit and chat—something they hadn't done so frequently before.

Ayano knew Ayari visited every day because she was worried about her.

During one of their conversations, Ayano asked Ayari if she thought Makoto liked her.

Ayari, upon hearing this, became visibly flustered but did not deny it.

Ayano then asked Ayari how she felt about Makoto.

Once again, Ayari gave no response.

Ayano remarked, "When Hizashi was mentioned before, you never blushed even once."

Ever since Ayari's engagement to Hizashi was annulled, many within the clan had speculated whether it had something to do with Makoto.

After all, the relationship between Makoto and Ayari was so close.

If outsiders could see it, Ayano could see it even more clearly.

Ayari simply replied, "I don't know either. I never thought about it like that before—it's just that he feels... different."

Ayano asked, "Isn't Hizashi special too?"

Ayari said, "Hizashi is special too, but they're not the same."

She couldn't quite explain it.

She and Hizashi were childhood friends, bound by an engagement arranged early in their lives.

They had grown up together, sharing an extremely close bond.

But perhaps because they were so close, Ayari never felt her heart race when she saw Hizashi.

She had long since accepted him as her future partner—a relationship so smooth and ordinary it lacked any excitement.

But Makoto was different.

Ever since the day Ayari asked Makoto about marriage and he bluntly said he didn't want her to get married, her heart had been thrown into disarray.

Since then, whenever she faced Makoto, it was hard to see him as the little neighbor boy who used to follow her around as a child.

Feeling irritated, Ayari muttered, "Makoto… that guy is so annoying."

Ayano suddenly said to her, "Ayari, say yes to Makoto."

Ayari looked at her in shock. "Why would you say that…?"

Ayano, with a serious expression, said, "I mean it. Say yes to him."

"…"

Ayari fell silent, no longer speaking.
