Chapter 60: Ch 60 : Konoha is under my control

Ayari rushed to Makoto's residence in a hurry, only to see Ayano doing housework in the living room.

The two exchanged a glance.

Ayano said nothing, while Ayari stormed angrily into the study.

Makoto, who was reading a book, glanced at her and said flatly,

"Why didn't you knock?"

With a loud "bang," Ayari slammed both hands on the desk. "Makoto!"

Makoto sighed and put down the book. "What's the matter?"

Ayari, fuming with rage, demanded, "What's going on with my sister?"

"What about her?"

"Don't play dumb! How could you treat her like this!?"

She leaned forward, nearly pressing against the desk as she confronted Makoto.

Makoto replied calmly,

"She's no longer part of the main family.

If she continues to enjoy the privileges of the main family, people in the clan will have complaints."

Ayari retorted, "But you can't make her your servant! Does she even know how to do those chores?"

"She can learn if she doesn't know. Besides, she's willing to do it."

"'Willing,' my foot! That's obviously your decision.

Does she even dare refuse you?"

Leaning back in his chair, Makoto said unhurriedly,

"You're right. She doesn't dare refuse me.

In fact, no one in the clan dares refuse me, except you."

Seeing him deliberately steer the conversation elsewhere, Ayari didn't want to waste any more words with him.

She turned around, marched out of the study, grabbed Ayano's hand, and prepared to leave.

"Where are we going?" Ayano asked.

"To my place!" Ayari replied.

But Ayano stopped in her tracks and shook off Ayari's hand.

Ayari froze, stunned.

Ayano said softly, "It's fine, Ayari. I'm very willing to stay here."

Ayari looked at her in disbelief. "You..."

Ayano even gave a small smile and continued, "Thank you, Ayari, but you don't need to worry about me."

"..."

Ayari stood there for a long moment before turning back into the study.

"Close the door," Makoto said casually.

"Did you threaten her?"

"Do I seem like that kind of person?"

"Ha! You've got the nerve to say that. Didn't you threaten me before..." Ayari trailed off as her face suddenly flushed red.

Makoto sighed and said slowly, "Don't you understand your sister's current situation?"

Ayari paused. "What... happened to her?"

Makoto asked, "Do you know what the clan's attitude toward the main family is?"

Ayari thought for a moment, and then it seemed as though she realized something.

"After Hiashi's death, Ayano will become a target of hostility.

More than one person has asked me how I plan to deal with her, and some have even accused her of being Hiashi's accomplice."

"..."

Ayari was silent for a long time before finally saying, "So you're doing this to protect her?"

Makoto countered, "What else? What did you think it was for?"

Ayari gave him a lingering glance and muttered, "I thought you were just being greedy..."

"Hmm?"

"Nothing!"

She quickly shook her head and then asked, "Then can she stay at my place instead?"

"You can move in here."

"Hah! Keep dreaming!" Ayari huffed.

She then warned Makoto sternly, "She's my sister. You're not allowed to bully her!"

Makoto didn't respond and simply picked up his book and continued reading.

"Close the door on your way out."

Seeing his indifferent attitude, Ayari suddenly made a funny face at him before leaving the study.

She approached Ayano and whispered, "If you're ever mistreated, just let me know. I'll deal with him for you."

Ayano felt a bit helpless inside, thinking, You? Handle Makoto?

More like the other way around.

As this thought flashed through her mind, something else seemed to occur to her, and she fell silent.

"Sis?"

"Huh? It's nothing!"

Ayano snapped back to reality and smiled again.

"If there's nothing else, you should head back, don't worry about me."

Ayari hesitated, then finally nodded.

"Alright. I'll visit often."

She didn't know what else to say to Ayano.

If she said too much, she might hurt Ayano's pride.

If… she were to agree to Makoto's proposal, would Ayano's status as her sister change too?

As the thought lingered, Ayari's face flushed red once more.

On the way back, Ayari unexpectedly ran into Natsu.

It had been a few days since they last saw each other, and both were somewhat surprised.

"Ayari-nee," Natsu greeted.

Ayari's expression became slightly awkward. "You... what's going on?"

Natsu explained, "I have something to discuss with Lord Makoto."

When Ayari heard her refer to Makoto as "Lord Makoto," she couldn't help but comment,

"You two are friends, right? There's no need to address him like that."

Natsu seemed a little embarrassed. "Makoto is the clan leader now."

Ayari replied, "Even if he's the clan leader, he's still Makoto."

After a brief exchange, the two parted ways.

As Ayari watched Natsu's figure fade into the distance, her expression grew complicated.

In addition to having previously tried to bring Natsu and Makoto together, there were also many rumors in the clan saying that Natsu was the perfect match for Makoto.

They were close in age, and Natsu's appearance and personality were both outstanding...

This left Ayari feeling a sense of melancholy.

........

Daytime.

The money and supplies sent by the daimyo had arrived.

Makoto looked at the receipts with satisfaction, feeling pleased.

This amount of money would be more than enough for Konoha to indulge in.

The Land of Fire was vast and rich, and its national strength was formidable, easily supporting a small village like Konoha.

The main issue, however, was the lack of people.

The battle with Iwagakure had caused significant losses in their ninja forces.

If another war broke out, it likely wouldn't be on the same scale as the conflict with Kirigakure.

Moreover, the mercenary organizations outside wouldn't fight with full commitment.

After thinking it through, Makoto wrote a confidential letter and tasked one of his own Anbu ninjas to deliver it to Sunagakure in the Land of Wind.

The contents of the letter were simple:

It reported that one of Konoha's ninjas had encountered the rogue ninja Sasori from Sunagakure in a small nation.

Sasori was using a puppet that resembled the Third Kazekage, who had gone missing from Sunagakure.

Sunagakure had recently helped Konoha, so it was only natural for Konoha to return the favor in this way.

This also removed any excuse for Sunagakure to raise an army against Konoha in the future.

Of course, it was just an excuse.

If a war really broke out, Makoto would have no hesitation.

For now, Makoto could only find ways to repair the relationship with Sunagakure.

As for Kumo, there was no immediate solution.

The entire Land of Lightning was a militaristic society, and suddenly showing them any goodwill might be interpreted as weakness.

Makoto sent the promised funds to the orphanage, and Yakushi Nonou specially came to the Hokage's office to express her thanks.

"I've already found a new director for the orphanage.

Her management skills are very professional, so you can rest assured in the future."

"Thank you, Lord Makoto."

"I've arranged new accommodations and teachers for the children. We will notify you when the time comes."

"Mm."

Then, Makoto suddenly asked Yakushi Nonou, "You used to be in Root's intelligence division, right?"

Yakushi Nonou hesitated for a moment before replying, "I've been away from Root for a long time."

Makoto said, "Open your mouth, let me see."

Yakushi Nonou was momentarily stunned, but then obediently opened her mouth and stuck out her tongue.

On her tongue was a black curse mark, the "Tongue Curse Root Eradication Seal."

She knew that Makoto wanted to see this.

Makoto gazed thoughtfully at the black seal and said, "I can help you remove this curse mark."

However, Yakushi Nonou didn't immediately agree.

After a brief silence, she replied, "This curse mark doesn't affect me. Whether it's removed or not doesn't matter. It's not important, and you don't need to go through the trouble."

Makoto narrowed his eyes.

This woman seemed very clever.

The curse mark protected many secrets, and she was aware that exposing those secrets would put her in danger.

These secrets involved many of the unspeakable actions that Danzo had carried out.

Makoto directly laid it out: "No, the things that curse mark is protecting, I need you to tell me about them."

"..."

"Yakushi Nonou, you need to understand your position. Do you know whose side you're on right now?"

Yakushi Nonou took a deep breath, realizing she couldn't avoid this, and softly replied, "I understand. If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave."

Makoto continued, "In the coming days, someone might approach you. My advice to you is, no matter what they threaten you with, I can protect you. No matter what they promise you, I can destroy it."

"I hope you understand. Right now, Konoha is under my control."
