Chapter 9: Chapter 9
"Ready for the picture? Well then, cheese!"
Sitting still with a blank expression and Konoha's forehead protector on him, Naruto's picture was taken—just like that.
__________
"Yes, I don't see anything off. This should be fine."
Reading through Naruto's ninja registration, Hiruzen nodded before placing the document atop a pile of similar papers.
"Am I done here then?"
"Yes you are."
As Hiruzen replied positively to Naruto's question, Naruto stood up and yawned,
"Well then, I'll see you next time, Hokage-sama."
"I'll see you as a professional shinobi the next time around, Naruto."
Their interaction seemed to have ended peacefully, until the door barged open and a kid, one who seemed younger than Naruto, entered the room, running floppily.
"BRACE YOURSELF, OLD MAN!!!"
Then, the kid ended up tripping and fell first-first to the floor.
"OWWW!!!"
"What the fuck?"
Dumbfounded, Naruto blinked as he stared back and forth between the fallen kid and Hiruzen, who sighing in exhaustion.
"What's he got into this time?!"
Then entered an adult shinobi wearing sunglasses.
"I get it! It's a trap?! Right?!!"
Ignoring the entrance of the shinobi, the kid, standing back up, shouted.
"A-Are you alright, honoured grandson?! And for the record, there are no traps here!!"
The shinobi stated as he entered the room.
"Haa... Konomamaru, Ebisu."
"...Ah,"
Naruto, having figured it out, spoke,
"He's your grandson, isn't it, Hokage-sama?"
"Yes, indeed."
The kid, named Konohamaru, rubbed his forehead as he stood back up. Looking around, he then pointed his finger at Naruto,
"AHA! So you tripped me! It was you, isn't it?!"
"...?"
"HEY! Say something!!"
Naruto felt that staying any longer in this room would start giving him a migraine. Waving a hand at Hokage, Naruto ignored Konohamaru and adult shinobi named Ebisu and exited the room swiftly.
...
Stopping his walk, Naruto couldn't help but sweatdrop.
'...It's been quite long.'
Peeking at the back, Naruto saw the spiky black hair poking out beyond the floppy camouflage.
'Until when is he going to chase me?'
Naruto contemplated if he should speed up to the point where the kid couldn't follow anymore, but decided that that would result in Konohamaru chasing after him every time he was seen.
"So,"
Turning around, Naruto asked plainly,
"Why follow me?"
Konohamaru seemed to have flinched, but didn't move as if he was well-hidden.
"..."
"..."
The stare-off continued on for a minute or so, before Konohamaru lowered his camouflage while sweating profusely,
"Ha-ha-ha-! So, you managed to see through my disguise! The rumours of your prowess don't lie!"
Boldly pointing his finger at Naruto, Konohamaru shouted,
"Teach me your skills! I will become your disciple!"
"Me?"
"Yeah! You've got to teach me whatever move you did to steal the scroll from my grandpa!"
'Ah, that.'
Naruto realized that although the situation of that night was cleared and everyone became aware of Mizuki's actions, kids like Konohamaru may not have.
"Hm..."
Speaking of which, there was a fun side project that Naruto was working on these days.
Smirking mischievously, Naruto replied,
"Sure, why not?"
...
Now standing in a peaceful woods, Naruto stood in front of Konohamaru with his arms crossed.
"Do you have parents?"
"Yeah!"
With his hands clenched and gulping in excitement, Konohamaru nodded eagerly.
"Have you ever seen your dad winning against mom? In any matter?"
"Uh... no!"
"Exactly. Do you get it now?"
"Uh... no!"
"Women are men's greatest weakness."
Konohamaru's mouth opened wide as if he's learned the biggest secret of life.
"Therefore, to win against your grandpa,"
Naruto held his hands out and formed a seal meant for the transformation jutsu,
"You must transform into a woman so sexy that any man will be sent flying from sheer lewdness. Understood?"
"Yeah!"
"Do you know how to use transformation jutsu?"
"Mhm!"
Konohamaru immediately formed a hand seal for the technique,
"Transformation jutsu!"
A puff of smoke covered Konohamaru, and after it cleared, Konohamaru was found in the image of...
"What the hell is this even?"
a mysterious blue-coloured creature with five arms and ten legs...?
"Heh, how is it, sensei?!"
The mouth, attached on where a dick was supposed to be hanging on, spoke excitedly.
Naruto had to suppress his urge to throw up,
"...Okay, you know what? This may suffice."
Regardless of the result, Konohamaru gave Naruto a new possibility, one which he found a more potential than transforming into a sexy woman.
"Huh? Really?"
Dispelling the jutsu, Konohamaru yelped excitedly,
"LET'S GO!!"
Sighing in relief and trying to erase what he just saw in his mind, Naruto eventually formed a confident grin,
"But watch and learn. I can do better."
Upon the utilization of technique, gone was Naruto, and in its place, there stood... a creature of another class. Head so swollen and huge, acne and other strange ailments covering up the entire skin—Konohamaru couldn't even take in the full detail, for he immediately found himself emptying his stomach.
"Hey! If you're going to throw up, do it somewhere! H-Hey, don't come toward me, Konohamaru!!"
With Naruto's panic-filled yell, the lesson of 'how to beat grandpa' was progressing smoothly.
...
"So, why did you try to attack your own grandpa out of blue?"
Taking a momentary rest after quite a session, Naruto asked Konohamaru.
Konohamaru, seemingly angry as he reflected on Naruto's question, slammed his fist on a nearby bark.
"My grandpa named me Konohamaru and said that this would bring me luck... but even though everyone in the village knows my name, no one ever calls me that! It's always just 'honoured grandson' and no one sees me for who I am... they see just who I'm related to. I hate it!!"
Clenching his hands, Konohamaru vowed,
"But I will change that! It will be different when I become Hokage and that's gonna be real soon!"
"Hokage?"
Naruto blinked at that,
"...You?"
Naruto found himself laughing in amusement.
"Hey! What's that supposed to mean?!"
Konohamaru shouted, and as his laugh died down, Naruto shook his head as the grin persisted on his face.
Ignoring Konohamaru's shouts, Naruto then asked,
"So, what will you do after you become Hokage?"
"Umm..."
Konohamaru hummed before pumping his fist to the sky excitedly,
"Order my parents to stop feeding me broccolis!!"
"You shouldn't."
"Huh? Why?"
"If you don't consume appropriate nutrients, you won't be able to maintain your strength. Naturally, if you're weak, there's no reason for others to respect you, right?"
"Uh... then I'll, uh,"
Broccolis seemed to be the only thing Konohamaru had in plan. Naruto sweatdropped,
"Do you know just how many paperworks a Hokage must do?"
"Paperworks?"
"You saw the pile of papers in your grandpa's office, right? Yeah, that's all meant for him to read and sign."
"...Wasn't there like, thousands of them?"
"Yeah, and they have deadlines."
"So that's why grandpa always seems tired...!"
Konohamaru took a step back in shock, before nodding firmly,
"Being Hokage sucks!"
"Exactly. It's nothing but a village mayor with tons of works to do."
"Then... if I don't want to become Hokage, how do I make others call me by my name?"
Konohamaru slumped, clueless of what to do. And to that, Naruto suggested,
"Isn't it simple?"
"Huh?"
"Become a renowned person. Just because you won't be a Hokage doesn't mean you can't be someone great and noteworthy."
Naruto shrugged,
"Something like a strong ninja should suffice."
"Strong ninja... that's just Hokage!"
"Hokage is a strong ninja, but a strong ninja isn't necessarily a Hokage. Get it?"
"Uh..."
"...You will in the future—"
"There you are!"
Then, the shinobi with sunglasses, Ebisu, standing on a tree branch, suddenly interrupted the scene with a displeased frown on him.
Naruto and Konohamaru looked up.
Jumping down from the tree branch, Ebisu said,
"It's time to return home, honoured grandson!"
"No way!!"
Konohamaru refused,
"I have to kick the old man's butt and become the next Hokage... wait."
He then paused,
"I don't wanna be Hokage anymore though?"
Turning to Naruto, Konohamaru asked,
"What do I do, sensei?"
"You still want to become strong, right?"
With widened eyes, Konohamaru returned to Ebisu and shouted,
"That's right! I have to become strong!"
Ebisu paused upon that. Scratching his head, he then stated,
"...That's my goal though, honoured grandson. To make you strong."
Konohamaru froze, with his brain overloading from the turnout of the situation.
From the side, Naruto nodded,
"True."
Ebisu sweatdropped.
Slapping Konohamaru on the back, Naruto spoke,
"I think it's time for you to return, Konohamaru. Ebisu's known as one of the best instructors; it's a blessing to learn under someone like him."
"Huh?! Really?!"
"Yes, he's a better teacher than me."
Ebisu seemed surprised by Naruto's praises of him, looking at the blonde in a new light.
Turning to look at Ebisu then, Naruto spoke,
"And Ebisu-san, Konohamaru apparently doesn't like being called as 'honoured grandson'. Refer to him by his own name, will you?"
"...Sure."
"Now go, buddy."
Naruto pushed Konohamaru slightly, and the black-haired child began walking. Then, perking up from his dazed form, Konohamaru turned and yelled,
"I'M NOT GONNA BE YOUR DISCIPLE ANYMORE!! FROM THIS DAY FORWARD—"
He then rubbed the back of his head sheepishly and grinned,
"—You are my big bro!"
Before Naruto could say anything more, Konohamaru ran at Ebisu. Ebisu, after nodding at Naruto respectfully, turned around,
"Now then, let us return, ho... Konohamaru-sama."
Watching as they disappeared, Naruto too left the scene, glad that a burden was finally gone from him.
However, the next day around,
"HEY!! ANIKI!! I KNOW YOU ARE THERE!! LOOK AT THIS!!"
Konohamaru, somehow finding where Naruto live in, would stand in front of the apartment and transform into a hideous creature, causing all the other inhabitants to freak out and give a rise to the chaos.
