Chapter 3: Chapter 3
"Chakra, huh."
Naruto frowned lightly as he felt a ticking sensation in his body—presumably the flow of chakra.
It was strange to him, perhaps because of how there wasn't a chakra back in his previous life.
The books which he read through a day ago indicated that people generally aren't aware of this chakra that flows within them, and even after becoming aware of it, it is hard to gain an acute observation of its flow within one's body. Such was the reason why they mainly relied on hand seals—to mold chakra in an ideal shape for an intended jutsu.
However, Naruto was different. To him, it felt as if a foreign fluid was injected in his body, roaming all around his body. Now that he gained some inner peace after taking care of basic necessities, he had the time to reflect upon this phenomenon.
"Ninjas use this to walk on vertical surfaces, water, and that... dashing from roof to roof too was an application of chakra."
So basically, its usage was limitless as long as one's imagination allowed.
Naruto hummed as he continued to monitor his body.
He did comprehend that chakra was the mix of one's physical energy derived from body's cells and spiritual energy derived from mind's consciousness. Overall, the production of chakra could be said to use one's stamina as a fuel.
In that sense, Naruto understood the reason behind the complex flow of chakra. And perceiving chakra as something akin to 'mana' or 'mp' which he saw in a variety of games, Naruto concluded that in order to build a staple foundation in attaining strength, three things are needed.
One, train oneself physically.
Two, study, meditate, and experience.
Three, Practice the usage of chakra.
Aside from the secondary benefits, the goal of steps one and and two is to raise his maximum chakra reserve, while the purpose of step three was to raise the efficiency of chakra usage.
"And to do that, I need a healthy meal, good sleep, and routine."
Naruto doubted that he can live off of instant noodles and Teuchi's ramens alone. However, cooking required time and no store was willing to sell him fresh ingredients.
"...Is ramen the only option I got?"
In the end, Naruto let out a dumbfounded remark. Having eventually concluded that Teuchi's ramen was the best nutrients he could get for now, he decided that any additional thought would be pointless.
"Alright. So eat, sleep, improve the condition of this toothpick body, and begin the physical training. For the studying... I'll have to see what the academy teaches,"
which meant that trying to use chakra was what he could try immediately.
"I guess..."
Instinctively, Naruto closed his eyes and entered a meditating pose with his hands clasped together.
Reaching the ongoing flow of chakra in his body, Naruto tried to accelerate its flow by applying a 'force' to it.
However, it didn't budge. Not too surprised, Naruto continued to knock on the flow repeatedly.
If anyone saw this attempt, he or she would've commented that Naruto was being far too reckless.
"...Ah,"
And finally, Naruto understood why the chakra didn't budge.
The amount that was currently circulating in him was the 'essential' amount. This existing chakra was needed for his survival, and removing some of it will result in a problematic state.
What did this mean? This meant that Naruto had to first convert his stamina into excess chakra.
"Conceptually, I understand, but to convert, I must...?"
Naruto found himself stuck in yet another mystery.
"How do I convert stamina into chakra?"
Opening his eyes back up, Naruto furrowed his brows.
"Stamina is an energy. Speaking from a scientific perspective, body's energy that I speak of currently is essentially the conversion of chemical energy into mechanical energy. Chemical energy being carbohydrates, lipids, and the triphosphates that are extracted from them, while the mechanical energy that I speak of is the contraction of muscles and works of nerves..."
Naruto's eyes narrowed as he began to form a hypothesis,
"Instead of mechanical energy, combine said chemical energy with something called mind's consciosuness. Mind's consciousness is one's will. My 'desire' to produce chakra mixes with those chemical energies and produce the tangible excess chakra that I can use... hah,"
Naruto wasn't sure if he got it right, but what he spoke just now seemed to make sense. The simpler the answer, the more complete and solid it was.
Closing his eyes once again, Naruto simply thought—of his desire to produce chakra as he relaxed and brought his attention to his body.
There was a noticeable change. The flow of chakra throughout his body enlarged. At the same time, Naruto found himself sweating and his breathing quickened from a sudden fatigue.
"...Nice."
Step one was down. Now what—
There was no need to do anything. The excess chakra separated itself from the flow and eventually gathered around his stomach. It seemed that this chakra wasn't going to last for long; he had to do something with it.
"...So this is what they meant by 'molding' chakra."
In other words, shaping chakra prior to using it for a variety of uses. He eventually dismissed this thought though, for 'molding' wasn't something that Naruto could figure out at the current moment.
"What if I..."
Instead, Naruto thought of something as simple as draping chakra around his body like an armour of some sort.
Reaching the excess chakra and attempting it, Naruto eventually realized that there wasn't enough chakra to encase his whole body. Humming, he chose to push those chakra onto his right hand as an accommodation.
To his delight, it did work. His right hand felt warm, and as he opened his eyes, he found that said hand was encased in a transparent, fiery energy.
Out of excitement, Naruto made a fist and thrust forward in the empty air. Nothing happened, however, and Naruto felt his excitement dying.
"...I thought something would happen."
Did I do something wrong?
"No, in the first place, what was I expecting anyway? To do something like... some sort of super punch whatsoever, I need a mechanical energy. I need a raw strength to achieve that—"
—Muscles.
Naruto's eyes widened before he returned his attention to his right fist immediately.
Closing his eyes and focusing, he willed it so that the chakra was seeped into the muscles.
Grinning, he opened his eyes and cocked his fist back, before freezing at the last second in realization.
"...What about bones? Skin?"
If a huge degree of mechanical force is exerted by his fist, according to the Newton's third law, there would be just as much force returning. If his bones and skins remain as that of a normal human while his muscles are enhanced...
Naruto's face turned pale before he closed his eyes again.
"Shit, that was close."
Extracting some degree of chakra from the muscles, Naruto re-allocated them into bones, skin, nerves, and other components—as evenly as he could.
Taking a deep breath, Naruto opened his eyes and punched forth.
To his shock, the force exerted was so great that his body was flown altogether—toward the direction his right fist was outstretched.
"Whoa—"
And then, it came in contact with a wall, and,
Boom.
a visible crack appeared from the force.
"Uh..."
"WHAT IS THAT NOISE?!!"
Someone screamed outside, and Naruto knew that he screwed up.
__________
In the tallest tower located just next to the ninja academy was Hokage's office.
"...What did you say?"
And within said office, the old man wearing a white robe that had the kanji for 'fire' engraved on its hat, the third Hokage Sarutobi Hiruzen, was listening to the report.
"Naruto... did what?"
"Within a single day, Naruto awakened chakra and on his own, without any outside help, managed to enhance his strength—enough to damage a concrete wall."
Hiruzen found his pipe dropping out of his mouth.
"In such a short period of time, he mimicked Lady Tsunade's trademark technique without even being aware."
"It means that Naruto possesses a superb chakra control skill, which shouldn't make sense due to his status as a jinchuriki..."
A jinchuriki, the host of a tailed beast, who has great chakra control.
It was the birth of a prodigy.
In the end, picking the pipe back up, Hiruzen chuckled,
"...He truly is your son, Minato."
"Sorry to interrupt, Hokage-sama, but,"
The reporting ninja in front of Hiruzen suddenly said,
"The landlord is requesting a fine, and the situation seems... a little urgent."
Raising an eyebrow, Hiruzen reached for his crystal ball and operated it to view the scene at the apartment.
"Pay up, you rascal!! You thought you could get away after what you did to my apartment?!"
"Like I said, I got no money right now! I'll pay up gradually, okay?! C'mon man, let this one slide!"
"AS IF I WOULD!! Do you think I am joking?! Huh?! Just because you are a kid doesn't mean—"
"Kid? Wasn't I a demon? Wow, so I alternate between a weak-ass kid and an inhuman demon whenever you need me to?"
"S-Shut up!! Just pay up, kid!! I know you're rich!!"
"Rich? Me? Hah, how about you shut the fuck up instead?!"
"...He truly is your son, Kushina."
As Hiruzen muttered with a sigh, the ninja found himself sweatdropping.
