Chapter 2: warning of dangers
The Next Morning
The sun's rays were peeking through the hills, but for Arhaan, this morning was unlike any other. His night had been spent in restlessness—the mysterious whispers, the shadows lurking in the bushes, and that ominous warning message.
"Someone knows that I have the Kaaldarpan..."
He reached into his bag and felt for the mirror. It was cold, but as soon as his fingers touched its surface, a slight tremor was felt.
The Mysterious Book
Everyone was having breakfast at the campsite. Professor Mehta was about to take them to see the ruins of an ancient temple today.
"Today we will go to the lost temple of Vikramgarh," he said, "where a great saint once meditated. Some believe that he created a mirror that could remove the layers of time."
Arhaan was startled.
"This cannot be just a coincidence!"
While leaving the campsite, his eyes fell on Kabir.
"What happened, buddy? You seem a bit lost today," Kabir asked.
"Nothing, just couldn't sleep."
"Oh, you too! I don't know why, but last night I heard strange rustling and whispering. It felt like someone was roaming near our tents."
Now it was clear to Arhaan that whatever happened was not just his illusion.
The Secret Hidden in the Ruins
The tour group reached the ruins of an old temple built among the hills. Huge stones, broken idols, and dust-filled stairs... here time seemed to have stopped.
Arhaan wandered around and moved towards the deep basement, where the air was humid and the darkness was dim. Suddenly his eyes fell on an old dusty book, which was buried in the corner of a broken wall.
He picked it up and dusted it off. There were some raised letters on the cover of the book:
"Kaaldarpan—The Key to the Secrets of Time."
Arhaan's heart started beating fast.
"It cannot be a coincidence that this book is here!"
He quickly turned a few pages of the book. On one page it was written:
"Kaaldarpan can show not only the past but also the future. But whoever sees it will have to pay the price..."
Arhaan's hands started trembling. He couldn't understand what he should do now—should he look into the Kaaldarpan again? Or should it be hidden forever?
The mystery was about to deepen... Will Arhaan be able to rectify the mistakes of the past, or will he himself get trapped in the web of time?
But before he could make any decision, he heard footsteps behind him.
Arhaan turned around quickly. The footsteps were echoing. There was only the light of his torch in the deep dark tunnel, and there was a strange coldness in the air.
"Who is there?" he asked loudly.
There was no answer. But in the next moment, a faint shadow moved between the shadows.
Arhaan's breath stopped.
He slowly started moving back, but then someone put their hand on his shoulder.
Meeting the Unknown Person
Arhaan looked back in panic. An unknown person was standing in front—about 40-45 years old, with a light beard and a deep glow in his eyes. He was wearing an old-style jacket, and a leather bag was hanging on his waist.
"Don't be afraid," he said in a low voice, "I know what you have found."
Arhaan composed himself.
"Who are you?"
The man took a deep breath.
"My name is Raghav Sinha. I am a historian... and I have been researching about Kaaldarpan for the last 15 years."
Arhaan was stunned.
"So you already know about it?"
Raghav said with a slight smile, "Kaaldarpan is no ordinary object. It can reveal those secrets of time, which history has never recorded. But seeing it is not easy."
Warning of Dangers
Raghav pointed to the book, which was still in Arhaan's hand.
"You know, this book is not just a document, but a guide. It has some such signs, which can show you the right path. But before reading it, you have to understand this—whoever peeps into the Kaaldarpan, their life is never the same again."
Arhaan's curiosity increased even more.
"How do you know all this?"
Raghav was silent for a moment, then said slowly, "Because I have also seen it..."
Arhaan was shocked.
"So... what did you see?"
There was a strange depth in Raghav's eyes.
"I saw something that should never have been seen. And now, someone is looking for me."
Arhaan's heart started beating fast.
"Who?"
Raghav looked around and whispered, "Those, who want to hide this secret from the world. Who don't want anyone to understand the power of Kaaldarpan."
What Will Be the Next Step?
Raghav looked at Arhaan with serious eyes.
"Now you have two ways—either you leave it here and go back to your life. Or you come with me, and know that Kaaldarpan is not just a mirror, but the biggest secret of history."
Arhaan fell into deep thought.
Should he trust this mysterious historian?
Is Kaaldarpan just a mirror showing the past, or something more than that?
Who are the people who want to hide it?
The answers could only be found ahead... but now Arhaan knew—he was trapped in such a mystery, where going back was no longer possible.
Arhaan's eyes were fixed on Raghav. All this happened so suddenly that he could not understand who to trust.
"What do you want to say?" Arhaan asked in a suspicious tone.
Raghav took a deep breath. "I want you to be careful. Kaaldarpan is not just a mirror of the past, it is a key... and many people can be looking for you to get it."
"Who people?"
Raghav looked around and then said slowly, "Kaalsanrakshak. They are the people who want to hide this secret at any cost. They have power, they have resources... and most of all, they know what Kaaldarpan can do."
Arhaan's mind started racing.
"If they want to hide it, then why are you looking for it?"
Raghav gave a slight smile. "Because I think the world has the right to know the truth. I don't know how many times you have seen it, but if you have even glanced once... then your destiny has now changed."
Towards the Mysterious Door
Arhaan was confused, but a storm of questions was raging in his mind. Just then Raghav took out an old map.
"If you really want to know where Kaaldarpan came from, then we have to go to the underground caves of Vikramgarh. There we will find something that will change your thinking so far."
"But we have to hurry," Raghav added, "because we can be tracked."
"Tracked?"
Raghav became serious. "If the Kaalsanrakshak come to know that Kaaldarpan is with you, then they will find you. And they... know more than me."
Arhaan's breath quickened.
"So what now?"
Raghav pointed to the map. "We will have to go there as soon as it gets dark. But before that..."
Raghav looked at Arhaan.
"You will have to peep into the Kaaldarpan once again."
* Who are the Kaalsanrakshak, and why do they want to hide the Kaaldarpan?
* Are the caves of Vikramgarh the next clue to this mystery?
* Will looking into the Kaaldarpan again give Arhaan more clues?
The night was about to fall... and now the game was about to get more dangerous.
