Chapter 161: Chapter 161
The Sothoth priest used his own soul as a medium, triggering the sliver of evil god's aura fused deep within his soul, unleashing [Death Shockwave]. Though its power was immense, its area of effect was not particularly wide, and its duration was extremely brief.
The near-absolute force of death swept across most of the rooftop before being abruptly pulled away by an eerie force, dissipating rapidly.
Yet, in that fleeting instant, the devastation wrought by [Death Shockwave] was unparalleled.
In a mere moment, the portion of the rooftop engulfed by death energy became a forbidden zone for all life.
Every insect, every plant, even the microorganisms in the air—everything within that space perished instantly.
Everything, except...
Eren, protected within a Barrier of Light formed by the three pairs of pristine white wings of the Seraphim, remained alive.
Beyond that, no living being remained in this space.
Not far away, on the rooftop of an even taller building, Tony had been standing, utterly dumbfounded. The sight of Eren summoning a six-winged angel had shattered his understanding of reality.
And just now, he had witnessed the entire battle unfold—he saw the ghostly figure launch a sneak attack on Eren, and in the final moment, self-detonate, obliterating most of the rooftop and sending Jester Eren flying.
"Not good!"
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Tony immediately piloted his smoking Mark IV armor and sped toward Jester Eren.
Though Tony often found himself annoyed by how Jester Eren stole his spotlight, deep down, he was grateful.
This was the man who had stood up against the Writhing Swarm, who had risked his life to stop the catastrophe—and who had once saved Pepper's life.
For that alone, Tony didn't want to see him perish.
As he neared the fallen Jester Eren, sparks flew from his heavily damaged armor.
Jarvis scanned Jester Eren's body, projecting a red beam over him before reporting:
"Sir, according to the scan, Mr. Jester has lost all vital signs..."
Tony's expression changed instantly.
He swiftly crouched down, flipping open his faceplate, and called out:
"Hey, buddy, wake up! This isn't nap time!"
At the same time, he reached out, attempting to adjust Jester Eren's body in hopes of administering first aid.
However, the moment his armored hand touched Jester Eren's body—
The spot where he made contact instantly crumbled into black ash.
"Oh, shit—what the hell!?"
Startled, Tony immediately pulled his hands back.
Jarvis: "Sir, I cannot explain—"
Tony: "I wasn't asking you..."
At that moment, a radiant burst of pure white light illuminated the battlefield.
The six-winged angel, whose wings had been tightly folded around Eren, slowly spread them open once more, revealing the young man she had been protecting.
Though the near-law-like Death Energy had been overwhelming, its brief duration meant it could not breach the Barrier of Light.
Thus, the Jester had perished, but Eren himself had remained unharmed.
Even so, as he emerged from the angel's protection, Eren's face was deathly pale.
Even with the Seraphim's holy light continuously flowing into his body, attempting to heal him, the pallor refused to fade.
Because of his Twin Soul ability, though Jester Eren had been utterly annihilated by Death Shockwave, Eren himself had not truly died.
At any moment, he could create a new clone.
However, all the experiences his clone had endured—including the pain of being erased by Death Energy—were now vividly flooding his mind.
The sheer influx of memories made Eren's head throb.
But more unbearable than the mental overload was the pain—the excruciating agony of being erased at a soul level.
As he stepped out of the Barrier of Light, the first thing he saw was the remains of Jester Eren—or rather, the black ashes drifting away in the wind.
Watching his clone's body disperse into nothingness, Eren let out a quiet sigh.
He had imagined many ways in which he, or one of his clones, might die.
But he had never considered this possibility.
After just two brief attacks, his clone had been dragged into mutual destruction.
What an utterly wasteful way to go.
Behind him, Tony, who had instinctively turned his head at the sound of movement, met Eren's gaze.
And the moment he did—he froze.
Eren's expression was indescribable—a mix of emotions too complex to decipher.
Seeing this, Tony quickly defended himself:
"Whoa, whoa, whoa—this wasn't me! I came here to help, I swear! I had no idea he'd just turn into—well, that!"
Before Tony could finish his explanation, Eren simply nodded.
"I know."
Hearing that, Tony let out a small sigh of relief before pressing on:
"What the hell happened? That guy was crazy strong—why did he just... disintegrate?"
Eren glanced at the last lingering traces of Jester Eren fading into the wind and sighed again.
"Death Energy." The words were heavy. "The Sothoth priest self-destructed, unleashing a death storm. Within its radius, both body and soul were completely obliterated."
"In truth, if not for her stepping in to shield me, I would have suffered the same fate..."
As he spoke, Eren turned slightly to look at the Seraphim standing quietly behind him.
Her?
Tony caught the pronoun. His eyes flicked briefly between the angel and Eren, clearly curious about their relationship.
The Seraphim, however, paid no mind to Tony's scrutinizing gaze.
Raising a hand, she beckoned toward the distant street, where the Angel's Scepter had embedded itself into the ground, leaving a crater in the asphalt.
The scepter emitted a low hum, trembled violently, then shot through the air in a streak of golden light, landing gracefully in her palm.
Without hesitation, she raised the scepter high—and slammed it down toward the space where the Sothoth priest had perished.
Because his death had left something behind.
The evil god's aura that had once been fused into his soul had been forcibly expelled upon his destruction.
And now, it was twisting and writhing in midair, trying to dissipate into the atmosphere.
The Seraphim would not allow that.
Bringing her scepter down with divine force, she struck the corrupted energy, unleashing a golden radiance that erupted from the weapon's tip.
[Seal]
The holy light enveloped the evil god's essence, trapping it within a brilliant sphere of sacred energy.
And just like that—
This battle had finally come to an end.
...
Elsewhere...
The eerie Death Energy that had vanished from the rooftop suddenly reappeared in a dim, confined space.
A realm trapped between Earth and Helheim.
Thunderous divine lightning raged outside, coiling around the prison-like dimension.
Runic chains, woven from Asgardian magic, bound the area tightly.
They had been placed by Odin himself—to seal away a terrible existence.
And within this dark space—
A pale, bloodless pair of lips curved into a chilling smile.
Then, with a soft breath, they inhaled the drifting remnants of Death Energy.
For others, it was a harbinger of doom.
For her—it was nourishment.
As her colorless face regained a faint trace of vitality, she whispered:
"It's been far too long since I last tasted Death Energy this pure... Too bad there wasn't more."
"But it doesn't matter. Soon, the old man will perish. And once Odin dies..."
Her expression darkened.
"This cage will no longer hold me."
"Just wait, old man. You will regret imprisoning me here."
...
Meanwhile, watching as the evil god's aura was completely sealed within a sphere of holy light, Eren finally let out a deep sigh of relief.
"It's finally over. Now, as long as we purify this aura, the mission will be complete."
Originally, Eren had intended to let the Seraphim purify the evil god's aura on the spot.
However, she had already expended a great deal of energy—first to shield him from the Death Energy, then to maintain the Barrier of Light, and finally, to execute the Judgment of the Scepter.
Right now, the Seraphim was significantly weaker than when she was first summoned.
Given her current state, Eren wasn't entirely confident she had enough energy left to fully purify the sealed aura.
If she failed to purify it and exhausted herself in the process, it would be disastrous.
The Seraphim could only be summoned once every three months.
If this attempt failed, Eren had no way of summoning another to deal with the crisis immediately.
And if the sealed evil god's aura were to break free in that scenario, things would spiral completely out of control.
So instead of gambling on an uncertain outcome—
It was better to just pay to solve the problem.
At the same time, Tony watched the Seraphim's actions with narrowed eyes before stepping closer to Eren.
"What exactly is she doing?" he asked.
Still looking pale, Eren glanced at Tony and replied, "Sealing the source of this disaster."
"The source?" Tony frowned, looking around at the devastation. Then, pointing at the ruined cityscape below, he asked, "You're telling me that all of this was caused by whatever's inside that glowing golden sphere?"
Eren nodded. "Hard to believe? That's the true remnant of an evil god left behind on Earth."
He continued, "The priest—before he turned into that inhuman monstrosity—was using that aura. He relied on it to summon countless worms, creating the disaster we just fought against. If his transformation had succeeded, it wouldn't have been so easy to stop him."
"If the Writhing Swarm had fully taken form, he could've just hidden somewhere while controlling the worms to devour every living person in New York, turning the entire city into a wasteland."
"And by then, he would've become even stronger… and nearly impossible to deal with."
Tony paled slightly at the mental image Eren's words painted.
Then, as if processing something else, Tony muttered, "So this whole mess wasn't just because of that thing. That Hulk guy and the other... puke-colored abomination—those weren't from your 'evil god'?"
Eren shook his head, "No. Those two? That was the military's mess. Their 'experiments' went wrong, and they turned into what you saw."
Hearing the word "military", Tony fell silent.
Then, his eyes drifted over the ruined cityscape—where the battle between the Hulk and Abomination had left massive destruction in its wake.
Finally, Tony murmured, "No one has the right to decide who lives or dies… not even the military."
Seeing Tony's dark expression, Eren watched him silently for a moment before turning his attention to the massive crater where the Angel's Scepter had struck.
Within that crater lay Abomination's corpse—torn in half.
With a simple thought, Eren transmitted his intent to the Seraphim through their shared link.
