My Works in the Multiverse (SIAU)

Chapter 8: 8. I'm Trying to Save You

"As hateful as it is, I would like to talk to all of you." I say, not hiding the hatred I have accumulated over the years.

"What do you want, freak," my uncle says, as if it were something wise.

"As you well know, I don't want to be here, with you. As I well know, you don't want me here. As a family, it's the only thing we have in common, and that's enough for me.

I'm going to contact a family friend, and I'll be giving you an adoption paper that you'll sign. As soon as all the paperwork and bureaucracy are completed, you'll take advantage of my time at Hogwarts to move.

Sell the house, set it on fire, I don't care. But you're going to leave this house, and go far away, and preferably, change your names and surnames, do that, and maybe, just maybe, Dudley here can reach adulthood." I say flatly, looking at my uncles seriously.

"And why the hell would we do that? You and your group of freaks can't do anything to us." declares my ever wise uncle, shouting.

"I'll list it for you then, UNCLE." My last word was filled with a hatred and disgust for the man that didn't go unnoticed by everyone, making even Dudley stop eating and look at me in fright. "Let's start with what they can do, using only non-wizard law.

Accusing them of mistreating a minor, physical and moral harassment, lack of care for my basic health, in addition to the years of being forced to sleep in an inadequate place. I believe that the process would give them around 15 to 20 years in prison, aggravated by you causing moral damage while I was in school, and in the neighborhood.

Regarding the wizarding side, let's see. Mistreating the boy who is known by all wizards in the country as the one who defeated the most dangerous dark wizard. However, imagine the outrage, upon discovering everything I went through in that same house.

The protections placed by Dumbledore are not perfect, and as we know, the Ministry knows where I live, and for the information to leak, all it takes is a little effort and interest. Not to mention, non-magical locks are useless against magic.

As you well know, years ago, people would appear dead in rooms locked inside, so you can guess who caused these deaths. Last but not least, the said dark wizard is rising again.

You well know that his main goal would be to kill me, and what easier place to do it, if not here, in a non-magical house with flawed protections? Do you understand now, or do I need to draw it for you, oh wise uncle." I finish looking at the man with disgust.

The trio was sitting in fear. It was clear in their eyes that my words hit them hard.

"And why don't we do it now? Just leave you here, and disappear like you want us to do?" Leoncio finally asked an intelligent question.

"Simple, because it is in someone's interest that I remain safe and ready to fight at the right time. With a single drop of my blood, they will track down my lovely and ever-helpful aunt here. Not far away, my slim and fit cousin here too.

Do you understand now, Leoncio, that by doing things my way, you can leave unnoticed, disappear, and be forgotten by time from the minds of those interested in me? I am trying to save you here, but I am content to just leave.

There is no love between us, but I am still a human being, conscious. I can only help when allowed, but if they refuse me, I do not mind being in a morgue someday, to recognize your bodies and bury them." I say coldly.

"So things have come to this?" my aunt finally spoke.

"Yes. You have achieved what you always wanted, to make me see you as just people I have to put up with. I was thrown here, I didn't ask to come, but you, wise and 'normal' as you are, distilled your hatred and daily frustrations on me.

I'm only doing this because I believe my mother would do the same, despite all the pain and suffering she put me through. I have no feelings other than disgust and hatred for you, but I do this for the memory of my mother, the woman you always spoke badly of." I finish, standing up. "I'll send a letter to bring the contract. The rest is up to you." I leave the kitchen.

It was early in the evening of the same day that Remus appeared at the Dursley's door.

"Figg?" I ask, looking at the man, sitting in the living room. I see my uncles looking confused at my question.

"Sirius distracted her so I could get in. Any questions later, your uncles can say it was a friend from work, or they can tell the truth and suffer the consequences." says the man, shrugging.

"Just give me the damn paperwork to sign and get the hell out of my house." says my uncle, always the witty man.

Smiling calmly, Remus just hands over the papers. My uncle, the suspicious man, read carefully what it said. Satisfied that our connection would be undone by any means other than blood, he signed excitedly.

My aunt was next. I saw her stare at me as my uncle read. Her eyes, a mix of barely contained anger, mixed with some guilt. After signing, she got up and went upstairs, without saying anything.

Remus didn't wait much longer than necessary, leaving as soon as he received the papers.

After he left, I went up to my room and started getting my things ready. Mr. Weasley was coming to pick me up in three days, to spend the end of the holidays at The Burrow, and to go to watch the Quidditch World Cup finals.

But there was one more piece of the plan to put into motion, which I would resolve tomorrow.
