My Weird Internship

Chapter 50: Share The Pie

Mr. Pope's enthusiasm stirred no excitement among them. Instead, it deepened the suspicion in a few pairs of eyes. But Ruby knew there was no other choice.

She turned to face her friends once more. "Alright," she began, her voice now steadier and more resolute. "We need to divide the roles. Someone to oversee the economy, someone for the military, law, foreign affairs, and domestic policy. Everyone has to take part."

"Wait," Alvin interjected, his voice still shaky. "We don't even know what's out there. How can we make decisions about something we've never seen?"

Ruby sighed. "That's true. But we don't have the luxury of waiting. The longer we delay, the greater the risk of something going terribly wrong. We'll have to learn as we go, just like we always have."

"I'll take the military," Zane said abruptly, cutting through the conversation. His face remained grim, but there was a fire in his eyes now. "If anyone tries to oppose what we've built, I won't let them destroy it."

"I'm not sure someone like you should hold that position," Ruby countered.

"Then who's more suitable? Juan?" Zane shot back, gesturing toward Juan.

Zirly stepped in, her voice calm but firm. "How about we let Irvan take the role of commander, and the rest we'll sort out together."

Ruby nodded. "Alright. We need someone for the economy. Chen?"

Chen hesitated, his brow furrowed, but he eventually nodded. "Fine. But I'll need help."

"I can help," Maya offered from the back. She rarely spoke, but Ruby knew her to be sharp and reliable.

"Good," Ruby said. "Next, law and domestic policy?"

Ryu raised his hand. "I'll take law. I've read a few books on government systems. It's not much, but it's a start."

"And I can handle domestic policy," Vio added. "I have a decent understanding of how societies function. At the very least, I can try."

Ruby nodded once more. "That leaves foreign affairs. I'll take that. We need to ensure we're not just focused on what's within, but also on what lies beyond."

With the roles finally distributed, Ruby felt a slight weight lift from her shoulders. But this was only the beginning.

"Listen," she said, her gaze sweeping over the group. "This won't be easy. We don't know what we're going to face out there, and we don't know what's happened to Mike. But if we work together, we can ensure that no matter what comes, we don't lose control. We must protect what we've built."

Everyone nodded, though some still carried doubt in their expressions.

"Good," Ruby concluded. "Let's go retrieve our leader before he gets too comfortable."

And with that, the walls of the room came alive, glowing as screens flickered to life. They displayed the world they had created a beautiful and intricate realm, brimming with potential but equally fraught with dangers.

They didn't know what awaited them beyond these walls, but one thing was certain: the game had only just begun.
