Chapter 9: It's Really Not Because She's Too Big
“Rita’s cooking is really delicious.”
Chen Wenjin lowered his head, scooping rice from his bowl and occasionally picking up some vegetables from the dishes, which he would put in his mouth.
One couldn’t deny that Rita was indeed one of the three culinary geniuses in the Honkai world. She could make even Shenzhou dishes taste so delicious. Considering that Rita was originally from England, one could only imagine the state of English cuisine. Those who understood would understand, and there was no need to explain to those who didn’t.
“Mr. Chen Wenjin, as long as you like it.”
While Chen Wenjin was eating, Rita stood by his side in the standard maid posture, with a tissue at her side, ready to offer it to Chen Wenjin whenever needed.
Although Chen Wenjin was quite apprehensive, he knew that he needed to eat. One should never neglect themselves, especially when it comes to food.
Regardless of Rita’s intentions, he decided to finish the meal first.
“Oh, by the way, Miss Rita, why do you keep calling me mister? You’re my superior.”
Chen Wenjin took another bite of rice and placed his bowl on the table.
This was something he was genuinely curious about. Those worthy of being addressed as mister were individuals with special status or those who needed Rita to get closer to them under Otto’s orders. However, he didn’t fit into either of these categories, so he couldn’t understand why Rita kept referring to him as mister’
Could it be that she had discovered something about his Honkai adaptability?
However, Rita simply shook her head and bent slightly to grab a tissue.
“It’s just my personal preference.”
Rita then walked up to Chen Wenjin, crouched down in front of him, and a faint scent of roses wafted into his nose.
This was the first time they had such close contact, and their faces were almost touching.
As Chen Wenjin sniffed the delicate scent emanating from Rita, he got a bit lost in thought.
“Mr. Chen Wenjin, next time, please be more careful when eating.”
Rita smiled slightly, used a tissue to gently wipe the corner of Chen Wenjin’s mouth, and, seeing his dumbfounded expression, gracefully stepped back, increasing the distance between them and returning to her original position.
Chen Wenjin touched his mouth, feeling somewhat dazed. It took him a few seconds to snap back to reality after Rita had returned to her spot.
She… she… was she just flirting with me?
Mom, I’m being flirted with by a girl, what do I do?
Charge!
Chen Wenjin raised his head and looked at Rita. She was still looking at him with her charming smile.
Oh, it’s Rita. That’s fine then.
Chen Wenjin instantly retreated, as the mysterious impression Rita had left on him was too deep.
Anything associated with ‘mystery’ was usually not something good to get involved with.
Forget it, let’s not provoke Rita.
While calming down from the emotions stirred up by Rita’s actions, Chen Wenjin started tidying up the table.
“Mr. Chen Wenjin, you can leave these things to me.”
Seeing that Chen Wenjin didn’t seem to want to let go of the items on the table, Rita immediately stepped forward and, noticing his resistance, just picked up what Chen Wenjin hadn’t already cleaned.
“Miss Rita, can we talk openly, please?”
Chen Wenjin swallowed hard, feeling more frightened the more Rita acted this way.
So he decided to have a frank conversation with Rita.
“This is our second meeting. You keep calling me mister, which makes it seem like I have a special status. But I’m just an ordinary person with a bit of knowledge about Honkai. This doesn’t seem right. I shouldn’t be in your eyes.”
As he initiated this conversation, Chen Wenjin reinforced his persona as someone who had some knowledge of Honkai. Unless Rita already knew about his Honkai adaptability, he didn’t want to pretend otherwise.
“Honkai adaptability.”
Rita put down the things she was holding and slowly stood up. She pulled out a test report from behind her.
This was the result of an examination conducted in the lab after she had taken Chen Wenjin’s blood. During their conversation at the coffee shop yesterday, she had ordered one of the Valkyries from the Third Squad to test for Honkai reactions in the area, and the result was negative. This meant that Chen Wenjin didn’t possess Honkai energy.
However, in Rita’s memory, Chen Wenjin had used a Honkai weapon during a battle against the Herrscher of the Void. Combining that memory with today’s little test and the blood test report, Rita confirmed that the current Chen Wenjin was nothing more than an ordinary person with Honkai adaptability.
(Does this mean that no matter how you train or cultivate me, I won’t be able to resist?)
After all, Chen Wenjin, who could beat Durandal in a spar while using just a boxing technique in the future, didn’t need her to train or cultivate him.
Chen Wenjin glanced at the examination report Rita had pulled out and took a deep breath. Then he leaned back on the sofa.
“I didn’t expect you to find out.”
Indeed, he can’t pretend anymore.
“So, what do you want?”
Chen Wenjin spread his right hand, assuming a negotiating posture. Although he tried to act composed, he was actually quite anxious.
He was no match for Rita. If she decided to use force, he would likely end up unconscious again, and this time, he might only wake up in the laboratory.
For Otto, one of the few males with Honkai adaptability was a valuable experimental specimen.
“I want…”
Rita walked up to Chen Wenjin, looking down at him from above.
Too tall, I can’t see her expression.
“Mr. Chen Wenjin, you will remain in the Immortal Blades’ Third Squad.”
“No, I don’t want to go to Otto… Huh?”
Chen Wenjin was momentarily stunned.
She’s not handing me over to Otto?
“Oh, this… Am I hearing this correctly? Miss Rita, you’re not handing me over to Otto? Isn’t observing me your mission? A male with Honkai adaptability should definitely attract Otto’s attention no matter what.”
“Mr. Chen Wenjin, you keep saying ‘Otto’…”
Rita slightly bent over, and from the gap in her maid outfit, Chen Wenjin saw two mountains as white as snow.
Chen Wenjin took another deep breath.
“Well, if you don’t want me to go to Otto, then I’m willing to go with you!”
Really, it’s not because Rita is tall that I decided to follow her. I just don’t want Otto to do anything strange to me, unless Otto is a cute girl, than it can be discussed
