Chapter 3: Daily Quest
"God damnit!" He cried.
Disappointed at what the [skills] tab had shown him, he knew that he didn't have the luxury of frowning at what was presented before him. So he took time and tried to remember that from all the system-based games, he'd been playing for almost his entire life.
Those weren't just the only tabs that he had, he knew there was this one tab and it was so close at the tip of his brain; and whenever he'd try to remember it, it would just disappear.
He closed the door behind him, because he knew very well if his mother came and found him staring at nothing but a mere mirror; she was either going to ask so many questions that he knew he didn't have the answer too, or she was going to be worried sick about him and insist on letting him stay in today. He didn't want that.
'So clearly something happened to me, and from the painful memories that if it were up to me I would have preferred to have forgotten all about, but it looks like this system if that's what I could call it. Really wanted me to know everything... But now I have seen the [profile] and [skills] tab, now there's this one I can't seem to remember and I wonder why.' Asgard was having a conversation with himself.
He sighed showing that he gives up, trying to figure out the last tab, "Aye this is messed up."
Watching at the time on his watch, he saw that he only had a few minutes to spare and when he took a closer look at himself. It's safe to say he was kinda impressed with himself and his new look.
So he closed his bathroom door and went to sit on his bed, with the system still floating around in the air following him everywhere he went.
"So if I have figured this out correctly, this system is going to be my guide from now on and I don't know till when, huh! Who knows maybe I have super powers now and I can be a secret super hero." Thinking that he was definitely a superhero.
His story was going to be quite different from other superheroes origin stories, his was going to have a bite but he couldn't tell what really bit him and now he was a superhero that could see a computer-based system. When he was thinking about all this, he was also playing a scenario in his head.
He was one of those teenage kids, who may have been awkward and everything but he had one hell of an imagination; one day when he was young he'd often believe that there was a monster under his bed like all kids, but his. His was special he'd tell his parents that his monster looked like a huge bat creature with winged wings, and he'd actually draw it down just to show people proof.
Now he was smiling on his own, and that's when he saw that he was clearly out of his mind.
Still waiting for his bus to come and pick him up, that's when his imagination got the better of him even worse than before. He thought that maybe if he became a super hero and had superpowers, he'd no longer have to hide and be treated like trash; he was going to be loved and cherished by everyone especially his childhood crush Zoe Ramirez.
He got up and locked the door, went to the bathroom again and opened the tap. Then he went back to his bed side and started doing crazy stuff.
"Okay, let's see if I have water bending abilities, sure they would suck. But hey at least it's something." He tried to comfort him.
Just then he started to do different kinds of hand signs, pointing at the running tab water.
"Water bending power, stop, freeze, come to me... Uhm, hello water?"
Nothing really happened and there he was looking like a weirdo, "huh, maybe I don't have water bending power." He gasped as he had another major assumption.
"Wouldn't it be cool if I had like electricity powers?" He continued.
The next thing he did was turn off all the lights that were in his room, though that didn't really make any difference since it was bright outside and sunny.
Asgard stepped away from being under the light bulb and stood by the door, took a deep breath and closed his eyes as if he was feeling some kind of energy coursing through him. He raised his hand pointing at the turned off light bulb.
"Okay Asgard, you can do this. How hard can it be to turn on a bulb with just your imagination?" He tried to uplift himself.
He stared at the bulb intensively for a very few moments and now his hand was starting to cramp, nothing happened really, but then... the light suddenly turned on.
"What?!" He couldn't believe it, he got so excited that he even began to dance and celebrate. Thinking that he did it.
"I did it, yes I did it!" So proud of himself, but his excitement and enthusiasm was short-lived when he moved away from the door, he saw that the switch was actually on; and he must have switched it on by mistake.
"Ugh, what the hell was I thinking? There's no such thing as superpowers, way to go Asgard you've just proven to yourself that you're a freak." Feeling embarassed and disappointed, he went back to sit on his bed.
The sun's heat was directly facing him, then he started to get all weak and tired. Forgotten all about the last tab it appeared before him.
[Shop]
[Unlocks at level: 10]
"Seriously, this was the tab that I got so excited about? I'm such a fool." He got demotivated.
He just closed his eyes, and thought about something else.
Ding!
A new tab had shown itself to him.
"Wait, what is this?" He wondered.
This tap that had appeared before him, was the real last tab, not the one he was so sure was the last tab the [shop] tab; which he found was boring but not this new tab, the [Quest] tab.
Finally this one didn't seem to be locked and had certain requirements that needed to be met in order to be unlocked.
[Main Quest]
[Reach level 10 to unlock]
[Daily Quest: eat 3 meals]
[Reward: 5 exp]
Asgard couldn't believe what he was reading, the system didn't seem so bad after all. It's requirements were not even that bad as he'd hope they'd be. If this is what the system was going to ask for him to do; then it meant all those locked skills and shop tab. He was going to open them very soon.
"You know, that's not actually bad. Plus, I haven't eaten so it might do me good." He said with a smile.
Now, there was another manor problem he was facing with now, he needed to close the tab and get rid of the system. He didn't know how to do that and he couldn't remember that all that he had to do was just think of it gone, then it would leave him alone.
This was now giving him a headache, what if his mother saw him walking around with a floating system, what would she think or better yet; how would she react.
Not to get him wrong or anything like that, he loved to share things with his mom. She was like his best friend, whenever he went through something and couldn't talk to his own best friend about it. She'd always be there to lend him an ear, even advice him if it was necessary.
But there was one slightest problem about this whole thing, his mother wasn't just your every day life mother; she was the police working under the sheriff department and regardless of being the best mother ever, she was a really good cop. Her name was Lt. Jessica Carter.
"Aye, this day couldn't get any weirder." He complained.
Fully knowing that he had to complete the daily quest given to him, he didn't have much of a choice; he had to go and eat and if his mother saw the system. He was going to find a way to explain it to her without sounding like a lunatic and stress her even more.
He went downstairs and opened the fridge, found all the food that his mother left for him and he was supposed to eat. Lucky for him, he didn't have to go through the cooking process; so he just ate and ate.
"No way, if I keep eating like this. I might end up being a blob." He couldn't take it anymore.
After finishing eating the last sandwich, the screen changed and a new notification message came up.
[Daily Quest Complete, 5 exp has been rewarded]
"Phew! Thank the heavens, I don't think I would have continued to eat more food than I could take".
Asgard was so full that he just let himself slip and sit by the fridge, he couldn't move as his body needed to digest all the food that he had just consumed. Forgotten all about the bus that was supposed to pick him up.
All he heard was the sound of the bus driving off.
"Sh*t" He contemplated.
A young boy, looking the exact age as Asgard came in. He was very handsome and good-looking; he had blonde hair, chiseled jawline and hazel eyes. Wearing a red and black baseball jacket on the left side written his initials - J. King.
"Dude, I've been waiting for you outside for the last couple of minutes." John said.
In honest truth, Asgard had forgotten that he no longer takes the school bus anymore; but rides with John - his best friend.
