My straight roommate is so good

Chapter 8

Lan University has three dining halls in total.

The most popular one is the second dining hall, which is just across the street from the Software Engineering Building.

Qiao Song often goes there by himself.

However, today he was with Ling Jianshu, and knowing that the second dining hall was always packed with people, he couldn’t help but hesitate, thinking about how many pairs of eyes would be watching their every move. He had glanced at the boy beside him several times, wanting to suggest going to a less crowded dining hall.

But whenever Ling Jianshu lowered his eyes and met his gaze, calmly asking, “What’s wrong?” Qiao Song felt that his own convoluted thoughts seemed somewhat ridiculous.

Since he had already decided to eat with him, he thought, it probably wouldn’t matter whether they avoided the crowd or not.

After all, as expected, their photo would likely end up on the forum, posted by CP fans.

With this thought, he didn’t say anything more. He just shook his head and said, “It’s nothing,” and walked into the second dining hall with Ling Jianshu.

It was dinner time, so the dining hall was bustling, with long lines in front of each food stall.

The moment Qiao Song and Ling Jianshu walked in, the noise and chatter near the entrance suddenly seemed to pause, and there was a subtle silence for two seconds.

Qiao Song knew exactly why.

He subconsciously glanced at Ling Jianshu.

Ling Jianshu seemed to be accustomed to this kind of situation. He smiled back at him and asked casually, “What do you want to eat? I’ll go line up.”

Perhaps because of his nonchalant attitude, Qiao Song felt less concerned about the gazes around them for a moment.

He stopped overthinking and responded to his question, “I haven’t decided yet. Why don’t we line up together? I’ll check out what they have first.”

Ling Jianshu shook his head and insisted, “There are too many people. You should find a seat first and wait for me. I’ll take pictures of each stall for you, and you can message me on WeChat with what you want to eat.”

The plan sounded flawless.

Qiao Song couldn’t find a reason to refuse, so he nodded and agreed.

Just as Ling Jianshu was about to turn and head towards the stalls, Qiao Song called out to him from behind, “Shu brother.”

Ling Jianshu turned to look at him, “Hmm?”

The place was a bit noisy, so Qiao Song uncharacteristically raised his voice, “Where do you usually sit, by the window? Or closer to the stalls?”

Ling Jianshu seemed surprised that he would ask about such a trivial matter. He paused briefly before smiling and saying, “I’m fine with anything. It’s up to you.”

Qiao Song didn’t like attracting attention.

He preferred sitting by the window, and if it was a window seat in the corner, that would be even better.

Following his instinct, he glanced toward the window, only to find that there weren’t any empty seats.

Interestingly, although everyone seemed to be focused on eating, not paying him any attention, within half a minute after he glanced over, three tables suddenly finished eating and vacated their seats.

Qiao Song: “…”

Great, now he fully realized just how much attention their arrival had drawn.

Normally, if a window seat opened up in the second dining hall, several people would rush to grab it in an instant.

But today, students carrying trays and looking for seats nearby all tacitly waited.

It wasn’t until Qiao Song walked towards the far corner that the other two seats were instantly taken.

He sat down, and the more he thought about it, the more amused he felt, so much so that the initial awkwardness and nervousness had completely vanished.

“What’s wrong?” Ling Jianshu asked.

Qiao Song replied, “I’m going to buy some water. What would you like?”

“Just a bottle of mineral water.”

“Okay, you start eating, I’ll be back soon.”

There were two vending machines in the second dining hall, where you could directly buy mineral water without having to line up at the counter.

Qiao Song was a regular user of these two machines.

The left machine, labeled as Machine A, was a bit old, with three buttons that weren’t very responsive, requiring quick multiple presses to work.

He knew these little details very well.

The mineral water was in the right machine, labeled as Machine B. The top row was for chilled bottles, while the second row held room-temperature ones.
