My straight roommate is so good

Chapter 5

At a crucial moment, Ling Jianshu’s phone buzzed with a notification.

Unlocking the screen, he saw a message from Cheng Yuan asking if he needed lunch brought over from the cafeteria for himself and Qiao Song.

He quickly typed a reply: 【No need.】

After sending the message, he casually placed his phone on the desk and looked at Qiao Song. He said indifferently, “But you’re right. It’s indeed unnecessary to waste time on strangers.”

Qiao Song, who had been looking despondent, perked up at this remark!

“Right.”

He nodded calmly on the surface, but inwardly he was anxious, thinking.

I was almost caught dead right there; that was a close call.

After narrowly escaping disaster, he and Ling Jianshu each went about their own tasks in the dormitory for the rest of the morning.

As noon approached, Ling Jianshu finished typing the last line of code, saved the Python file to his desktop, and sent a copy to Cheng Yuan via WeChat.

Stretching his aching neck, he turned halfway and looked at Qiao Song.

Qiao Song, who had been moving boxes all morning, was feeling a bit tired and was now leaning back in his chair, daydreaming.

Ling Jianshu broke the silence first, asking him, “Have you finished tidying up?”

Qiao Song snapped out of his daze and replied, “Yes, almost done. There’s just a little bit left for tomorrow.”

Ling Jianshu nodded and stood up from his chair. He asked, “Want to go for lunch? We can head to the cafeteria together.”

Qiao Song instinctively responded with “Sure.”

But as soon as he said it, he immediately regretted it.

With everyone fervently discussing his and Ling Jianshu’s affairs on the forum, going to the cafeteria together now would only draw more attention. Was he trying to make the “lawsuit CP” trend even more or was he trying to hasten his own demise?

He didn’t want to cause trouble, so he decided to back out.

As Ling Jianshu prepared to leave, he sent a WeChat message to his friend Xia Zhe in Russia.

Qiao Song: 【Are you awake? Call me if you are.】

At noon in Lan City, it was seven in the morning in Russia.

Knowing that Xia Zhe usually wakes up early, Qiao Song reached out for help.

Soon, he received a reply from him.

Xia Zhe: 【?】

Qiao Song: 【No time to explain, call me quickly. Need to act.】

Being lifelong friends, Xia Zhe quickly complied without asking questions.

He sent a voice message over WeChat.

Qiao Song answered the call and began his performance—

“Hello?”

“Oh, was our appointment for noon today?”

“Sorry, sorry, I got busy and forgot…”

“You’re already there?”

Xia Zhe could barely contain his laughter as he listened to his serious acting.

Qiao Song ignored his chuckles and continued his act.

“I’ll be there in fifteen minutes.”

“Okay, see you then.”

After ending the call, he looked at Ling Jianshu.

Ling Jianshu, having overheard the conversation, asked, “You’ve got an appointment for lunch?”

“Yes, sorry, I might not be able to go to the cafeteria with you.”

“No problem. You go ahead.”

Qiao Song sighed with relief.

But just as he was about to leave, Ling Jianshu added, “Jun Ming is coming back tomorrow. When everyone’s here, let’s have dinner together.”

Qiao Song: “…” Was there any way to refuse?

Clearly not.

Unable to find a reason to decline a normal dorm gathering, he gripped the door handle in silence for two seconds and eventually replied, “Okay.”

After he left, the dorm fell quiet.

Although not having lunch together was a bit disappointing, Ling Jianshu wasn’t the type to be a stalker.

He moved to the window and looked down at the street.

A few minutes later, he saw Qiao Song’s figure appear in his view.

It was lunchtime, and the area outside the dorm was bustling with people.

Qiao Song, tall and slender with a refined aura and strikingly pale skin, was undoubtedly the most eye-catching person in the crowd.

From six floors up, Ling Jianshu couldn’t see his face clearly but could distinctly feel his unusually rapid heartbeat.

This feeling had appeared countless times today.

From initial astonishment to subsequent irritation and now, almost calmly accepting it.

He stared at Qiao Song’s receding figure, his thoughts a whirlwind.

Although he didn’t understand why he felt such fluttery emotions toward a male student, if that person was Qiao Song, everything seemed natural.

As his figure finally disappeared from view, he retracted his gaze and prepared to head out.

He paused when he reached for his keys, suddenly remembering—

Keys.

Qiao Song didn’t seem to have the key to room 603 yet.

He pressed his lips together, his fingers tracing the edge of the key, and a plan formed in his mind.

Qiao Song arrived outside Lan University and crossed the street to a restaurant on the pedestrian street across from the school.

He ordered a single-person set meal at the counter.

Two dishes, a soup, and a bowl of rice, the portions were generous and enough for him to last three meals.

The set meal came with a drink, but he wasn’t planning to drink it.

He grabbed a bottle of mineral water from the small fridge next to the counter, paid, and asked the owner for an empty bowl.

Back at his table, he poured half a bowl of water and rinsed each dish in the water before eating.

In the meantime, Xia Zhe bombarded him with messages on WeChat, with over thirty unread messages piling up.

Xia Zhe: 【What’s going on?】

Xia Zhe: 【Is that idiot still bothering you?】

Xia Zhe: 【Aren’t you moving dorms? Did you move out?】

Xia Zhe: 【Dude, wake up, reply!】

Xia Zhe: 【Hey, are you there?】

Xia Zhe: 【[Urgent, waiting online. jpg]】

Xia Zhe: 【[Urgent King. jpg]】

Qiao Song skimmed through all the unread messages and typed a reply to him: 【It’s not that.】

Xia Zhe’s response came after a brief pause: 【Another idiot?】

Qiao Song: 【……This one isn’t an idiot.】

Xia Zhe: 【What? Is there a situation?】

Qiao Song: 【No, don’t guess.】

Xia Zhe: 【Definitely there is!! You clearly dodged earlier and now you’re trying to defend him, so you’re embarrassed or shy about having lunch with him?】

Although his guess made sense, it was far from the truth.

Qiao Song replied: 【I already said no.】

Xia Zhe began typing again.

Qiao Song sighed and typed: 【He’s a straight guy.】

Xia Zhe immediately stopped typing.

Qiao Song, leisurely rinsing his dishes, typed another message: 【And he’s homophobic.】

Xia Zhe was left speechless: 【……Dude, do you not have any normal people around you?】

Qiao Song thought for a moment: 【There are normal people too. I just moved to a four-person room today. The other two roommates seem quite normal, only this one is homophobic.】

Xia Zhe: 【[Cat sighs. jpg]】

Xia Zhe: 【Now I understand why you’re avoiding him… If it were me, I’d probably perform an encore of changing dorms…】

Xia Zhe knew Qiao Song was gay, and so was he himself.

If there was anyone who understood Qiao Song best, it would undoubtedly be him.

They had a somewhat tumultuous start, but their friendship was solid.

When Qiao Song was five, he started learning piano from Liang Qiuyang, a renowned pianist.

Liang, a level of pianist rarely taking apprentices, agreed to take him due to his musical heritage and innate talent.

Soon after, Liang also took on Xia Zhe as a new student.

Xia Zhe and Qiao Song were the same age. While Xia Zhe wasn’t as talented, his family was incredibly wealthy.

Both their fathers were businessmen. Although their businesses had no connection, they shared a common interest—both had strong ties to the arts.

Xia Zhe’s father sponsored Liang Qiuyang’s global tours, while Qiao Song’s father married an artist.

Liang couldn’t refuse Xia Zhe as a student due to these connections.

Qiao Song didn’t mind, accepting him as his new junior.

But he wasn’t so indifferent.

The pampered Xia Zhe often felt frustrated and envious of Qiao Song, especially when Liang scolded him for not performing as well as him.

Eventually, he fell ill, and Qiao Song carried him to the hospital.

That act of kindness led him to mend fences with Qiao Song, promising to be good friends.

Since then, their relationship had been strong and open.

After graduating high school, Qiao Song entered Lan University’s piano performance program.

Xia Zhe, lacking the required artistic scores, went abroad to Russia for a prestigious music academy’s piano education program.

Despite the distance and time difference, they remained independent but close friends.

Qiao Song didn’t want to worry him, so he reassured him via WeChat: 【Don’t worry, he has no hostility towards me for now.】

He didn’t dare mention that Ling Jianshu’s lack of hostility was because he wasn’t aware that he was gay.

Xia Zhe didn’t press further, replying: 【That’s good.】

A few seconds later, two new messages arrived.

Xia Zhe: 【But still, you need to be careful. Homophobic straight guys are really, really, really scary. Their brains aren’t normal!!!】

Xia Zhe: 【If you sense any trouble, just run! Don’t hesitate to ask for help, feel free to bother me anytime.】

Qiao Song replied: 【Got it. I’m eating now, will talk later.】

After sending the message, he put away his phone and focused on finishing his meal.

Due to past experiences, Qiao Song had developed an aversion to eating.

However, playing the piano was physically demanding, and he needed to replenish his energy.

In the afternoon, it was time for piano practice.

After lunch, he returned to school and headed straight to the Art Center.

The Art Center was surrounded by a lush garden, usually quiet and peaceful.

But today was different.

As he walked through the garden, he quickly understood the cause of the unusual commotion.

The hotly discussed “lawsuit CP” posts were still trending on the forum, and the main character, Ling Jianshu, was openly standing outside the Art Center, waiting!

How could this not cause a stir?!

As Lan University’s recognized campus heartthrob, he was indeed handsome and eye-catching.

Qiao Song, standing three meters away, was unsure whether to move forward or back.

A crowd of people nearby waited, clearly eager for some excitement.

He was in a state of frustration, his temples throbbing with pain.

Before he could decide how to handle the situation, Ling Jianshu had already spotted him and called out, “This way.”

Those two casual words seemed to set off an invisible explosion in the air.

All the surrounding eyes immediately turned towards him.

Frozen in place, Qiao Song felt the air around him becoming dense and suffocating…
