Chapter 2: Your Son is Sick, What Does That Have to Do With Me?:

Jiang Ye was surprised. He had thought he would never see Jiang Tianhua again in his life. But here he was, standing at his door.

Why would he take the initiative to show up?

Jiang Tianhua looked at Jiang Ye carefully. However, a flash of disappointment crossed his face. Jiang Ye was nothing like his son, Jiang Cheng—not in his clothes, nor his demeanor. There was no comparison between the two.

To Jiang Tianhua, Jiang Ye was a son he had abandoned, destined to remain at the bottom of society. After he donated his bone marrow, Jiang Tianhua planned to never contact him again.

It was true that Jiang Ye’s current appearance didn’t compare to Jiang Cheng’s. But if Jiang Ye had grown up in wealth and luxury, he would surely not lose to Jiang Cheng. Despite the hardships, Jiang Ye was a competitive person. He and his mother sold vegetables to survive, but in school, he always ranked among the top students. When it came time for college, he was admitted to Magic City University with a high score of 660.

And Jiang Cheng? He barely scraped 200 points on the college entrance exam after spending three years in high school chasing girls in luxury cars. Despite that, Jiang Tianhua simply donated a library to a prestigious foreign school and secured Jiang Cheng’s enrollment. Jiang Tianhua never cared about how hard Jiang Ye worked. He didn’t have the time.

“Xiao Ye, long time no see,” Jiang Tianhua said, quickly stepping forward to block the door before Jiang Ye could close it. Li Yan slipped past and walked inside.

Once inside, Li Yan’s expression darkened. The place was small and old. She found it uncomfortable and just wanted to get a sample from Jiang Ye, leave, and never return.

Jiang Ye’s face remained cold. He didn’t trust their intentions, but Jiang Tianhua got straight to the point after a brief exchange of pleasantries.

“Xiao Ye, we need you to come with us to the private hospital in Magic City. Afterward, we can catch up.”

Li Yan chimed in, “Yes, let’s go to the hospital first, then we can meet again afterward.”

Jiang Tianhua and Li Yan’s politeness felt forced and insincere. Jiang Ye stared at them coldly and said, “Family? Who’s your family? And why should I go to the hospital with you? If there’s nothing else, leave. I have to go to work soon.”

Jiang Ye had hoped, after 15 years of no contact, that Jiang Tianhua was finally here to apologize to his mother. But he was wrong. Their expressions gave it away—they weren’t here to make amends.

Jiang Tianhua and Li Yan exchanged looks. Jiang Ye couldn’t be allowed to leave. He was now their last hope.

“Xiao Ye, there’s something urgent you must do today. It’s about your brother, Cheng’er—he’s waiting for you to save his life.” Jiang Tianhua then explained everything. Jiang Cheng needed a bone marrow transplant, and they wanted Jiang Ye to donate his.

Jiang Ye was stunned as he listened. His heart sank with disappointment. He had once believed that, even after his parents divorced, Jiang Tianhua still thought of him as his son. But he was wrong—so very wrong. In Jiang Tianhua’s eyes, he and his mother had always been insignificant.

15 years without contact. When Jiang Ye couldn’t afford school and had to sell vegetables on the streets, Jiang Tianhua didn’t care. When Jiang Ye worked twelve-hour shifts just to afford a decent meal, Jiang Tianhua ignored him. When his mother died, Jiang Ye wept bitterly while Jiang Tianhua enjoyed his new life with his mistress and her children.

And now, just because Jiang Cheng was sick and needed a bone marrow transplant, Jiang Tianhua suddenly remembered that Jiang Ye existed? After 15 years, their first request was for a bone marrow donation. Why?

Jiang Ye had always harbored some small hope, even though he hated his father. But today, that hope shattered. Jiang Tianhua wasn’t worthy of being called his father.

With red eyes, Jiang Ye looked at the two standing in front of him. “So, you want me to donate my bone marrow to Jiang Cheng? Is that it?”

Li Yan quickly nodded. “Yes, yes! Hurry up, we need to go.”

Li Yan could sense Jiang Ye’s dissatisfaction, but she didn’t care about the feelings of a poor boy. If Jiang Ye weren’t Jiang Cheng’s brother, she would never have set foot in such a place. Jiang Ye should consider it an honor to donate his bone marrow for Jiang Cheng.

Jiang Tianhua also nodded. “Alright, stop asking questions. Get in the car; we’re going to the hospital.”

He didn’t even ask Jiang Ye if he was willing. He simply expected him to follow along. After ignoring Jiang Ye for more than a decade, now that his other son was ill, he suddenly acted as though Jiang Ye were family.

As Jiang Tianhua reached for his phone to call for a car, Jiang Ye began to laugh. His laughter confused them both. Then, after a moment, Jiang Ye looked at them coldly and asked, “Your son is sick. Why should I donate my bone marrow?”

Jiang Tianhua was stunned.

Was Jiang Ye refusing? He had been so polite to him earlier. What had changed?

Growing impatient, Jiang Tianhua snapped, “What do you mean? Don’t you want to save your brother? I am your father!”

Jiang Ye’s expression grew colder. “My father? Did you ever care for me? Did you pay for my living expenses or tuition? If you were the one who was sick, I would donate my bone marrow without hesitation. We would be even then, because you gave me life. But today, it’s that woman’s son who is sick. What does that have to do with me? Why should I donate my bone marrow?”

“You…” Jiang Tianhua was at a loss for words.

It was true—after divorcing Jiang Ye’s mother, he had never cared about what happened to them. Li Yan was strong, and Jiang Ye’s mother received nothing after the divorce. Jiang Ye had every right to say what he did, and Jiang Tianhua had no argument against it.
