Chapter 112: Chapter 110: I, Uchiha Itachi, Take the Blame
Haru was preparing to rest properly and planned to visit Jiraiya the next day. However, just as he was about to settle down, he heard Uchiha Itachi's voice calling from outside the door.
"Haru."
Itachi called his name, as if there was something urgent to discuss.
Haru couldn't be bothered to change his clothes and simply walked to the door in his pajamas to let Itachi in.
Glancing around, Haru noticed that Itachi was alone, with no sign of Obito.
On the other hand, Itachi's expression grew serious upon seeing Haru's calm demeanor.
"Come in," Haru said, leading the way inside.
In truth, this wasn't Haru's house. It was Kakashi's home. However, due to Kakashi being hospitalized after falling victim to a genjutsu, Haru wasn't worried about anyone overhearing their conversation.
"You don't seem surprised," Itachi remarked as he followed Haru inside.
He had expected Haru to have countless questions, or even try to confirm whether he was truly Itachi. Yet, Haru's reaction was remarkably composed.
"Surprised about what?" Haru shot back. "The masked man?"
"What's the point of being surprised? If you think it's necessary to tell me the truth, you'll do so. Otherwise, there's no need for me to press you."
"Even if you've betrayed the village, you must have your reasons."
Haru didn't hesitate to start bluffing.
He didn't truly believe what he was saying. Instead, he was using this show of trust to make Itachi trust him in return and wholeheartedly assist him.
Moreover, Haru knew far more about the masked man than Itachi did.
His name, his plans, his trump cards, even the girl he liked Haru knew it all.
If he revealed any of this, Itachi would likely be shocked.
"You're more composed than I imagined, Haru," Itachi said, slightly taken aback.
While moved by Haru's trust, Itachi also admired Haru's mindset.
Only by maintaining a calm state of mind could one analyze an enemy's weaknesses and find a way to defeat them.
"I've already informed the Third Hokage about the situation, and I learned from him that you were the one who stopped the Nine-Tails," Itachi continued.
Upon hearing that Haru had single-handedly subdued the Nine-Tails, Itachi was genuinely shocked.
"The Third Hokage also told me that you're currently staying at Kakashi's house."
Haru nodded, indicating that he had guessed as much. "So, what did that person tell you?"
"His name is..."
Itachi took a deep breath, as if steeling himself, before revealing the name.
He even paused deliberately to emphasize the gravity of the situation.
"Uchiha Madara!"
However, much to Itachi's surprise, even after hearing the name, Haru's expression remained unchanged.
In truth, Haru had already prepared himself for this.
Although the masked man's true identity was Obito, he had been using Madara's name to deceive others before his true identity was exposed.
Haru had considered acting surprised but feared it might come off as too exaggerated.
"You..."
Now, it was Itachi who didn't know how to react.
"I am surprised," Haru quickly changed the subject. "But what does Madara want from you?"
"You believe me?" Itachi frowned. Even he had been shocked when he first learned of this.
Uchiha Madara was not only the first in their clan to awaken the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, but he was also the strongest Uchiha.
He had co-founded Konoha with Hashirama Senju, only to leave and eventually be killed at the Valley of the End.
Yet, not long after, Madara's body mysteriously disappeared.
From any perspective, Madara's life was filled with legendary tales.
And now, he had returned with a vengeance.
It wasn't an exaggeration to say that Itachi even suspected Madara had been behind the Nine-Tails' attack that night.
This fit Madara's character perfectly.
Destroying the village he had helped create that was Madara's motive.
But Itachi never expected Haru to believe him so readily.
"Why wouldn't I? Itachi, I've always been completely open with you. Remember the first time we met? I revealed my biggest trump card to you and told you my true identity."
"Although we haven't spent much time together, I've always considered you my closest friend. If there's anyone who would never deceive you, it's me."
"I've been honest with you, so I believe you mustered a lot of courage to come and tell me the truth."
"So, tell me, Itachi, what do you want me to do?"
Haru met Itachi's gaze, though he already had a good idea of the truth.
In fact, the truth was exactly as Haru had guessed.
With the Uchiha coup now resolved, Itachi could leave the village without worry.
Additionally, Madara had shared his plans with Itachi.
Thus, Itachi intended to use this opportunity to leave the village, join Madara's organization as a rogue ninja, and spy on them.
"I want to ask you for a favor," Itachi said, his tone growing more serious.
"It's about Sasuke, isn't it?" Haru replied without hesitation.
The only person Itachi was truly concerned about was his younger brother, Sasuke.
As for his parents or a lover, they could be erased from his life.
Itachi was momentarily stunned before nodding firmly. "Yes, Sasuke is the only one I can't leave behind. I hope you can take care of him for me."
"That's not a problem. When are you planning to leave?" Haru asked.
"Tonight. At the same time, the village will pin the blame for the coup on me. They'll say I used my Mangekyō Sharingan to control the clan and attempt to seize power."
This wasn't just about taking the blame it was a form of identity protection to help Itachi infiltrate the enemy's ranks more effectively.
However, in Haru's view, this would only fool someone like Nagato.
Given Obito's knowledge of the village, he wouldn't believe such a story.
Of course, Obito didn't care about the truth. He simply wanted to use Itachi's abilities to help him collect the Tailed Beasts.
In other words, this was a transaction where both Itachi and Obito tacitly obtained what they needed.
After sharing this crucial information with Haru, Itachi's body dissolved into a flock of black crows, which slowly faded away until nothing remained.
"So, he's left the village after all," Haru murmured to himself, staring at the now-empty room.
Even before Haru's first "sign-in," Itachi had already been in contact with Obito.
Although Itachi hadn't wiped out the entire Uchiha clan this time, given his personality and sense of responsibility, he would undoubtedly go undercover to gather vital intelligence about the village's future enemies.
This also meant that, with this farewell, Itachi had entrusted Sasuke and the rest of the Uchiha clan to Haru's care.
