27: Library Date? - 04
The sound of a page turning softly reaches my ears. Apart from that, there is almost no other sound, and if we focus, we might even hear each other’s breathing.
Sitting side by side on a two-seater sofa, we leisurely read the same book we chose earlier.
Finally using the library correctly, we spent our time quietly in this manner. It feels a bit too late now, but aside from being too close to Kamidama, it’s generally a pleasant time.
The genre of the novel in hand is romance… or perhaps more like youth fiction. Not that I particularly paid attention to the genre. It just so happened that there were two copies of this book next to each other, that’s all.
I don’t know about Kamidama, but I am quite a voracious reader. I rarely choose books based on a specific genre. I tend to read almost anything. Of course, it doesn’t mean I enjoy everything I read.
Everyone has their preferences. It’s just that I often don’t consider them when choosing a book. That way, I get to encounter various books, which is interesting.
The feeling of broadening my horizons is indescribable. So, while I was reading silently, my concentration waned—not because the novel was uninteresting, but simply because I got tired.
Reading surprisingly uses up stamina. Moreover, today has been quite eventful… from my perspective, it’s been overwhelmingly so.
It’s no wonder I’m exhausted. Rather, I’m thoroughly worn out. I let out a small sigh, lean back on the sofa, and steal a glance at Kamidama’s profile.
—She’s really beautiful.
Her well-proportioned features, flawless white skin, beautiful long flaxen hair, and hazel eyes.
Kamidama, with a serious expression turning the pages, didn’t look like a girl with a crazy backstory. Instead, she seemed deeply intellectual, a truly rational beauty.
If you capture this moment, it could be a perfect painting. Kamidama Kagari, in many ways, is quite well-put-together.
If only she didn’t start talking about her past lives or something, she would be a picture-perfect beauty. Heaven gave Kamidama everything, but also took away some screws from her head.
What a thing to do… Give them back! Even one screw would be fine, just give it back to Kamidama! While I was thinking this, our eyes met suddenly.
She looked slightly surprised and then smiled softly.
“What’s up? Want some attention?”
“Don’t be ridiculous. I was just thinking you’re really beautiful.”
“…You’re really the type to say that to anyone, aren’t you? I’m happy, but I’ll deduct some points for that.”
“Why am I being criticized…?”
Well, no matter how many points I lose, it doesn’t hurt or itch, but still, why do I have to be looked at with such reproachful eyes…?
A beautiful person is beautiful, and a handsome person is handsome. It’s a fact, not flattery, so telling them shouldn’t be an issue—actually, such people are probably used to hearing it.
They likely have some self-awareness and are probably tired of hearing it by now.
Especially Kamidama, who interacts with everyone equally. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that hearing such words is an everyday occurrence for her.
“The same words can be taken differently depending on who says them. You need to be careful about that, Uraku-kun.”
“Don’t worry, there’s no relationship I need to be careful about.”
“Then just think about me?”
“That’s a bit…”
Her reply was too intense. It made my voice tremble with surprise.
Honestly, I’ve been thinking about Kamidama constantly, being dragged around by her every day.
“Besides, I do choose my words. I can say this to Kamidama because I feel comfortable around you.”
“You still have the talent of a womanizer…”
“Can you receive the electromagnetic waves from past lives while insulting me…? You’re too versatile.”
I mean, calling me a womanizer… That’s a new kind of insult for me. If that were the case, by now I’d have at least one or two friends, not necessarily a girlfriend.
Given that the reality is different, you can guess the rest. It’s more like I’m being avoided rather than being a womanizer.
This is the fate of someone who missed the initial friend-making rush at the start of the school year. For someone with low social skills, a late start means almost no chance of forming connections.
Well, I’m someone who enjoys life alone, anyway. Thinking that inwardly, I inserted a bookmark and closed the book with a snap.
Looking at the clock, the short hand was nearing 10.
“We should probably leave… Sorry for keeping you so late.”
“I wanted to stay, so don’t apologize. We can discuss our thoughts next time.”
“Yeah.”
I’m neither a fast nor a slow reader. Probably just an average reading speed. Plus, today, my eyes kept slipping over the words.
I might finish the book by tomorrow or maybe the day after. After processing the book loan at the counter, we both headed outside.
It was late enough that it could be called nighttime. The surroundings were enveloped in darkness, with streetlights flickering.
After confirming Kamidama’s arms around my waist, I pushed the pedals.
Our homes aren’t too far, but not too close either. With Kamidama here, I decided to speed up a bit… but I could feel her weight leaning heavily on me.
“Hey, Kamidama, don’t fall asleep. It’s really dangerous.”
“I know~ Yawn…”
“That yawn doesn’t sound like you understand.”
“It’s fine, even if I fall asleep, I won’t let go of you.”
“Your voice is too serious…”
Even so, believing her words honestly would be… I thought as I continued cycling.
Though we didn’t talk much, it was a fairly comfortable time, and soon, I could see Aimoto’s house.
Just a bit further, and we’d reach Kamidama’s house. While thinking “almost there,” I noticed a figure coming towards us.
Slowing down and moving aside to make way, our eyes met suddenly.
Even in the darkness, her beautiful black long hair was visible—
“Ah, Aika.”
“Oh, brother, you’re quite late tonight—who is this?”
