Chapter 2: Superman
The city lights reflected off the mirrored buildings, flickering in vibrant neon hues. The roar of engines, incessant honking, and voices echoed through the busy streets, a brutal contrast to the cold silence Shadow had experienced for sixteen years.
He drove calmly, but not out of uncertainty—on the contrary. His control was absolute.
The cars around him seemed to move in slow motion. Shadow slid between them with flawless precision, accelerating and braking at the exact moment to avoid any collision. The drivers barely had time to react before he was already gone.
His red eyes analyzed everything. Every street. Every building. Every movement of the people around him.
Metropolis. A monumental city, with skyscrapers reaching the clouds, giant billboards broadcasting incessant ads, and a constant flow of people passing by—some aimless, others with clear objectives.
But something was... off.
Why did everything feel so calm?
The streets were full, but the city exuded a kind of unsettling silence. Not the silence of the absence of sound, but the silence of something being out of place.
And then, doubt arose.
What happened to me?
In one moment, he was in that ice prison, unable to move a single muscle. In the next, his instincts screamed, his energy exploded, and he destroyed everything around him.
But was that really just instinct?
No.
Shadow knew how to fight. His strikes were precise, his speed impeccable, and his use of chaotic energy meticulous. He didn't fight like a cornered animal, nor like someone who simply reacted.
He fought like someone who knew exactly what to do.
His eyes narrowed.
"Anything to avoid going back to that ice cage."
He didn't remember the exact moment he learned how to fight, how to use his powers perfectly. But his body, his mind, his hidden memories—they all knew.
He knew who he was.
And he knew that those who had kept him imprisoned for so long wouldn't just let him go.
BOOM!
A violent explosion erupted beside Shadow, lighting up the street with flames and thick smoke. But instead of being thrown off or losing control of the bike, he reacted instantly.
With a precise twist of the handlebars, he made the bike skid on the asphalt, tires screeching as the vehicle spun 180 degrees, sliding perfectly until it faced the source of the attack.
There, standing among the rubble and the cars abandoned by civilians fleeing in panic, was a black, armored military vehicle. The doors bore a striking acronym—a symbol burned deep into his memory.
"G.U.N..."
The words slipped from his lips before he could stop them. The name triggered something in his memory, a distant, familiar echo, but one that carried disgust, anger, and something darker...
Pain.
His red eyes narrowed, and his fingers gripped the motorcycle's handles tightly. His jaw clenched as his chest filled with a silent fury, something primal and visceral, yet at the same time cold and calculated.
He twisted the throttle a few times.
VRUM! VRUM!
The powerful roar of the engine echoed through the streets, blending with the distant screams of civilians trying to escape the danger zone.
Shadow leaned forward, his eyes locked on the military vehicle.
And then he moved forward.
"He's coming!"
The driver of the vehicle shouted, his voice choked with pure terror. He barely had time to react before one of the soldiers in the back seat pulled out a portable missile launcher, aiming directly at Shadow.
SWOOSH!
With a deafening shot, the missile cut through the air, leaving a trail of white smoke as it relentlessly advanced toward the motorcyclist.
But Shadow didn't slow down.
His eyes gleamed, and his body moved before the missile even got close.
Shadow remained calm. His sharp gaze followed the missile coming toward him, as if time had slowed down.
Boom!
The explosion engulfed the street, a cloud of fire and debris soaring into the sky. The impact made the buildings tremble, car alarms blare, and the screams of the people grow louder.
But Shadow wasn't there.
Zoom!
A black-and-red blur sliced through the air. He reappeared next to the explosion, the motorcycle still intact. Shadow had teleported at the last moment, leaving behind only a residual image of himself being consumed by the flames.
The soldier who fired the missile widened his eyes. "What?! How did he—"
Shadow didn't give him time for explanations.
He brutally accelerated, the rear wheel burning the asphalt before speeding toward the military vehicle.
CRASH!
The motorcycle collided with the side of the armored vehicle, but instead of being destroyed, the energy of chaos enveloped Shadow. He jumped at the last second, spinning in the air before landing on top of the vehicle.
The soldiers inside the car panicked. "He's on top! Throw him off!"
The driver tried to maneuver violently, but it was useless.
Shadow dug his fingers into the metal and tore the armored vehicle's roof apart as if it were aluminum foil, revealing the soldiers inside. His red eyes glowed, cold and relentless.
The nearest soldier drew his weapon, but before he could aim, Shadow dove into the interior of the vehicle like a predator attacking its prey.
WHAM!
A powerful punch, surrounded by orange-golden energy, hit the first soldier in the chest, crushing his tactical vest and throwing him against the inner wall of the vehicle. The impact was so strong that cracks appeared in the metal structure.
The other soldiers panicked.
"Fire! FIRE!"
The interior of the armored vehicle lit up with flashes of gunfire, bursts of bullets tearing through the air in a desperate attempt to stop the threat. But Shadow was too fast.
He ducked, spinning with surgical precision. His foot shot up in a spinning kick, striking a soldier's jaw and sending him flying out of the vehicle through the opening he had torn himself.
Another soldier tried to draw a taser, but Shadow simply grabbed his hand and twisted it, forcing him to drop the weapon before violently slamming him against the control panel.
ZZT!
Electricity crackled as the panel erupted in sparks.
"Shit! We've lost control!" the driver shouted, struggling to keep the vehicle on the road, but it was already too late.
Shadow moved forward.
With a brutal motion, he grabbed the driver by the collar and yanked him back, ripping him from the seat and throwing him out of the speeding vehicle.
Now out of control, the armored truck veered off course, scraping against a streetlight and knocking over fire hydrants before finally crashing into a building, erupting into flames.
BOOOOOM!
The shockwave swept through the surroundings, shattering windows as smoke billowed into the sky.
And amidst the chaos, Shadow landed smoothly on the asphalt, having leaped from the vehicle at the last second.
He rose slowly, his dark silhouette outlined against the orange glow of the flames. His red eyes gleamed with a predatory intensity.
His fists were still clenched, orange-gold energy crackling around his body like burning embers.
G.U.N. wanted him back.
But he was no longer a weapon.
He would never be controlled again.
VROOM!
The roar of engines filled the air as a new wave of military vehicles stormed the streets of Metropolis. Armored trucks barreled forward with brute force, indifferent to the panicked civilians scrambling to escape. Armed soldiers leaped from the vehicles, shoving past people, knocking over stalls, and smashing windows in the process.
Chaos had begun.
Shadow watched the scene, his expression remaining cold and unshaken. His scarlet eyes gleamed, and his Chaos Energy—a pulsating mix of orange and gold hues—began to envelop his body like a living aura, crackling like raw electricity.
His fingers tightened around the motorcycle's handlebars.
"Why won't you just leave me alone?"
His voice echoed through the now-empty street, carrying a sharp weight.
The troops didn't respond with words. They responded with fire.
RA-TA-TA-TA-TA!
The first bursts of machine gun fire lit up the night, but they found no flesh to pierce. The bullets ricocheted off Shadow's body as if they were mere grains of sand striking indestructible steel.
He advanced.
The motorcycle roared as he accelerated, burning the asphalt with the absurd force of Chaos Energy. Shadow launched forward, a blur of pure destruction.
BOOM!
He raised his hand, and one of the armored trucks was hurled into the air with colossal force, spinning like a broken toy. Another vehicle tried to swerve, but Shadow was already on top of it, his feet digging into the hood, the metal caving beneath his overwhelming strength.
With a single motion, he hurled it into another vehicle, sending both exploding into a fireball.
The rain of steel began.
Missiles were launched. Cannon shots tore through the sky, all aimed at the lone threat in the middle of the devastated street. But none of it made a difference. Shadow was a hurricane in motion, dodging every explosion with physics-defying reflexes.
Then, he vanished.
The air around him distorted with a sudden warp!, and silence lasted only a second.
BOOM!
Above the wreckage, the vehicles that had been sent skyward exploded simultaneously, like dark fireworks illuminating the night.
Shadow reappeared on the ground, his back to the destruction, the glow of Chaos Energy still pulsing around him.
He turned his neck, gazing at the remaining soldiers.
"And now?"
His voice was a whisper. But that night, to those soldiers, it sounded like the very end.
TATATATATA! BOOM!
The streets of Metropolis trembled as a new wave of projectiles came rushing in. Bullets sliced through the air like swarms of deadly wasps, grenades rolled across the asphalt, releasing smoke, and missiles tore through the sky, leaving behind incandescent trails.
Shadow didn't even blink.
With an agile movement, he leaped off his speeding motorcycle, letting it continue in a straight line until it crashed into one of the military vehicles, erupting into a fireball.
And then, everything stopped.
Not for the world, but for him.
Shadow's perception expanded. His crimson gaze swept across the battlefield, and every detail around him became crystal clear, as if time were moving in slow motion. The spin of the bullets, the sparks in the gun barrels, the snap of grenade pins being pulled, the vibration of displaced air from the missiles.
He moved.
In a blur of black and gold, Shadow crossed the battlefield in fractions of a second.
BAM! He struck a soldier on the side of the helmet, sending him flying like a piece of paper.
CRACK! An elbow strike shattered another's armor, launching him into a group of allies like a human projectile.
WHOOSH! He caught one of the missiles in midair and, with a precise spin, redirected it back toward the vehicles it came from. BOOM! A colossal explosion engulfed the armored vehicle, scattering debris everywhere.
Shadow danced between the bullets.
Dodging, striking, using his own enemies as weapons.
A soldier tried to draw a pistol, but Shadow was already behind him.
Another tried to flee, but a gloved hand yanked him back and slammed him into the ground.
Within seconds, the soldiers began to fall like dominoes.
BAM. BAM. BAM.
Every strike was precise, every movement calculated, and when the last soldier hit the ground, Shadow merely straightened himself.
The dust and smoke of destruction slowly dissipated.
The street was silent.
He had defeated them all… in a matter of seconds.
His eyes glowed one last time before dimming. Shadow glanced around and sighed, brushing the dust off his suit.
"Ridiculous..."
Shadow remained motionless for a moment, his red eyes analyzing the figure before him.
The man floated in the air with an imposing yet serene presence. His jet-black hair was perfectly in place, and his dark blue eyes held a firm gaze, though without hostility. His blue suit clung to his muscular body like a second skin, and his long red cape swayed gently in the wind. At the center of his chest, an iconic symbol: a stylized "S" within a yellow and red shield.
It was Superman.
Shadow raised an eyebrow.
"Is this normal now? People flying around in ridiculous outfits?"
The hero didn't react to the provocation, remaining steady in the air. He had faced countless superpowered beings before, and this red-eyed, golden-glowing young man was definitely one of them.
"So it was you?" he repeated, his eyes scanning the destruction around them. Overturned military vehicles, smoldering wreckage, dozens of unconscious soldiers—some dead. The chaos left behind by Shadow was undeniable.
Shadow didn't avert his gaze, his body remaining firm, ready to react to any movement.
"It was me. So what?" His voice carried a sharp, defiant tone.
Superman landed smoothly on the asphalt, just a few meters away from Shadow.
"Because this city is my responsibility."
Shadow didn't hesitate.
His cold gaze completely ignored the presence of the Man of Steel as he walked toward his motorcycle. Nothing else mattered. He was free, and nothing—no one—was going to capture him again.
However, the moment he reached out for the handlebars, he felt a firm pressure on his shoulder.
"And that's why I can't let you leave."
The hero's voice was firm, carrying an unquestionable authority. A powerful, unshakable presence.
"You killed people. I can't let—"
Before he could finish, Shadow grabbed his wrist with overwhelming strength.
BOOM!
The impact was instantaneous.
With an explosive movement, Shadow lifted Superman as if he were a ragdoll and brutally hurled him against the asphalt. The ground cracked under the hero's weight, but Shadow didn't stop. He twisted his body and swung him from side to side, as if breaking a chain that tried to restrain him once again.
Then, with one final motion, he flung Superman away.
WHOOSH!
The blue and red figure was launched like a missile, cutting through the air at high speed, but in less than a second...
A gust of wind. A red blur crossed the sky.
Superman was already back.
Shadow's eyes glowed intensely with his chaos energy, a vibrant golden-orange that crackled around him like wild thunder.
Without hesitation, he charged forward.
The world around him seemed to slow down as he grabbed the hero by the neck, stopping his advance with a crushing impact.
CRACK!
The ground gave way beneath their feet, cracking in chaotic patterns due to the absurd force of the clash. Shockwaves swept through the surroundings, shattering windows and shaking buildings.
"What—?"
Superman tried to react, but Shadow was already moving.
BAM!
A brutal punch struck his face, slamming him into the ground with a seismic boom.
Shadow didn't stop.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!"
With a roar of pure fury, he dragged the hero across the shattered asphalt, leaving a trail of destruction as he advanced.
Then, with one final push, he hurled him with all his strength.
BOOOOOM!
Superman was sent flying at high speed, violently thrown against a building. The impact was devastating—massive cracks spread through the structure before an explosion of dust and concrete consumed the area.
Shadow stood there, panting, his orange-golden aura pulsing like a living flame around him.
He would never return to that cage. Never again.
BOOM!
The impact of Superman against the building caused the concrete to shatter into countless fractures, and the structure trembled under the force of the throw. Glass shattered, dust and debris rained down onto the streets below, and screams echoed as civilians tried to flee the chaos.
Shadow remained standing, breath heavy, his orange-golden aura flickering around him like living flames. His glowing red eyes burned with intensity, reflecting his frustration. He didn't want to be hunted. He didn't want to be chased. All he wanted was freedom.
He looked around. The city, so full of lights and life just minutes ago, now looked like a battlefield. Abandoned vehicles, rubble scattered across the ground, and fallen soldiers were the only remnants of what had just transpired.
Shadow turned on his heels and walked back toward his motorcycle.
But then…
VROOM!
A deafening sound tore through the air as a blue-and-red figure emerged like a blur. Superman burst from the wreckage, concrete crumbling from his imposing silhouette.
The hero hovered in the air, his eyes glowing with an intense reddish hue. The blow had surprised him, but it hadn't hurt him.
"You're strong," Superman admitted, brushing the dust off his suit. "But that doesn't mean I'll let you escape after what you've done."
Shadow gritted his teeth. If he wanted a fight… then he would get one.
The chaos energy surrounding Shadow began to pulse even more intensely, cracking the asphalt beneath his feet.
Shadow vanished in an instant flash of golden light, the distortion of space left behind like a scar in the air. He reappeared behind Superman, grabbing his cape with surgical precision. The hero didn't even have time to react before he was spun around and hurled away with devastating force. Superman was flung like a leaf in the wind, crashing into the ground with a heavy thud.
But Shadow didn't give him even a second of respite.
Warp!
The word left his lips like a whisper. In the blink of an eye, he disappeared again, reappearing in the air behind Superman, and driving his fist into the hero's chest with all his might. The impact echoed across the battlefield, and Superman was sent flying backward as a shockwave tore through the air. But Shadow was already on the move again.
Warp!
He vanished and appeared directly above Superman. With incredible force, he delivered a hammer blow, slamming his fist down onto the top of the hero's head. The impact was so brutal that Superman was sent crashing into the ground, creating a crater where his body struck with a deafening boom.
BOOM!
The ground split apart, as if the very earth itself was reacting to the overwhelming power just unleashed. A shockwave rippled through the city streets, sending debris and dust into the air. The sound reverberated across the city, making even the nearby buildings tremble.
Superman slowly got up, blood trickling from his nose, his body still adjusting to the brutal impact. He wiped the blood away with the back of his hand, but his eyes remained locked on Shadow, now more surprised than ever. It was obvious—he was bewildered. Never before had someone injured him like this, without Kryptonite, without any other advantage.
"Wh..." Superman tried to speak, but the words died in his mouth. What was happening? Who was this young man who seemed capable of hurting him without any external advantage? How was he doing it? The Man of Steel had no answers.
But there was no more time for questions.
"Warp!"
The distortion of space appeared again, and Shadow materialized in front of Superman. Without hesitation, he struck a direct palm blow to Superman's chest, pushing the hero back with incredible force. Before Superman could recover, Shadow grabbed his head and slammed it into a nearby wall, sending chunks of concrete falling around them.
"I'm getting tired of saying this, but I'll repeat it," Shadow said, his voice cold and resolute. He smashed Superman's head against the wall again, creating a deep crack in the structure.
"LEAVE!"
With a roar, Shadow struck Superman's stomach, making him double over instantly, his breath faltering. But before the hero could react, Shadow had already lifted him again.
"ME!"
With speed beyond perception, Shadow hurled Superman into the sky, launching him like a projectile against gravity. Superman's body sliced through the air before being met with a devastating kick from Shadow, sending him crashing back down.
"ALONE!" The word erupted from his mouth with a ferocity that reflected his frustration and desire for freedom.
BOOOOM!
The impact of Superman's body against the ground made the city tremble. The ground caved in, cracks spread in all directions, and a thick cloud of dust rose, momentarily obscuring the scene. The remaining civilians watched in shock, unable to believe what they were witnessing.
Shadow hovered in the air, enveloped in his golden-orange Chaos energy. His eyes burned like living flames, and his expression was one of pure disdain. The patience he never had was already gone.
Inside the crater, Superman coughed and slowly got back up. His blue suit was covered in dust and torn in a few places, with a trickle of blood running from his mouth. He didn't feel pain like a human, but he was definitely feeling those hits.
Shadow descended from the sky, landing heavily on the ground. Each of his steps caused small tremors in the earth, and the energy around him still vibrated intensely. He looked at Superman with a cold expression.
"Do you get it now, or do I need to repeat myself?" His voice was firm, laced with irritation.
Superman stood tall, catching his breath. He wasn't someone who gave up easily. If this young man was a threat, he had to stop him.
He dusted off his suit and faced Shadow. His heat vision eyes began to glow even brighter.
"I don't know who you are," he said seriously. "But if you keep this up, I'll have to stop you by force."
Shadow let out an annoyed sigh. "Why can't you understand something so simple?!"
The energy around him flared violently.
