Chapter 558: The Terrifying Anger of the Elf Queen
In the courtyard of the inner palace, Iris stood with her eyes closed.
She stretched both hands forward and opened her mouth.
"Low-Level Magic: Fireball!"
*Whoosh!*
A red magic circle formed in front of her.
A few seconds later, a fireball about one meter wide shot out, gliding forward and shattering a log twenty meters away.
"It worked!" Iris's eyes sparkled with happiness.
It had been over a week since she started practicing magic, and the results so far were very satisfying.
However, there were still obstacles she had to overcome, one of which was casting low-level magic spells.
For Iris, who had just begun learning magic, casting even low-level spells was a major challenge.
Even the most talented mages among the Demon race needed more than three months to completely master a single low-level spell.
But she never gave up. She believed she could cast a low-level spell in no time.
And her confidence had been proven right—she did it!
"Wow! You really did it, Iris!"
Charlotte's surprised and admiring voice came from behind her.
Turning around, Iris couldn't help but smile proudly.
"Hehehe! Of course, Sister. I'm your little sister, after all. It would be a shame if I couldn't do it, wouldn't it?"
Charlotte smiled warmly at her response.
"Yes, yes, you truly are a very talented sister," Charlotte said, walking over and stopping beside Iris.
She gently rubbed Iris's head, making her eyes curve into happy crescents.
"By the way, did you see Fiona, Iris?" Charlotte asked curiously.
Iris blinked and shook her head. "I don't know, Sister. But the last time I saw her, she was playing with Sister Stella."
Charlotte fell silent for a moment, as if lost in thought.
After a while, she looked back at Iris and said, "Since you started learning magic, I know you've been spending less time with her. It's the same for me. I've been busy reading in the library and neglected her too. I'm worried Fiona might think we don't love her anymore."
Iris felt a pang of guilt at her words. She couldn't deny it—ever since she started practicing magic, she had neglected her sister.
But it wasn't without reason. The memory of the assassins who had almost captured them was still vivid in her mind.
She had to become stronger so that something like that would never happen again.
"In that case, should we go spend some time with her?"
"Yes, something like that. It's not good if we keep ignoring Fiona. Besides, I feel bad for Sister Stella, who's always looking after her," Charlotte said with a soft sigh.
"Alright, I understand." Iris nodded slowly and grasped Charlotte's hand. "Coincidentally, I was thinking the same thing. Let's go see Fiona and Sister Stella and spend lots of time with them."
"Okay!" Charlotte smiled brightly.
With that, the two of them held hands and headed back to their room.
...
Meanwhile, inside the carriage, Leon and Elina sat casually across from each other.
Since the interior of the carriage was luxurious and fully enclosed, Elina no longer needed to wear a hood to hide her appearance.
"By the way, Elina, I'm a little curious about something," Leon said as he took a piece of bread and ate it. "Since you left the Elven territory, hasn't your sister, the Elf Queen, been looking for you?"
Elina's expression turned embarrassed at the question. "Um... that..."
She scratched the right side of her face awkwardly. "Actually, my sister has always been looking for me. The elves have a unique communication tool that lets us stay in touch no matter how far apart we are. Every day, my sister calls me... but I don't answer."
"What? You didn't answer? Why?" Leon looked at her in surprise.
Elina pursed her lips and said softly, "If I answered her calls, she would order me to return home. But I still want to enjoy my life here in humanity's territory."
She was tired of living among the elves. Their lifestyle was too old-fashioned, rigid, and boring.
Their living space was also much smaller compared to humanity's vast territories.
And there was no entertainment like in the cities of humanity.
For Elina, who was a free spirit and hated being bound by strict rules, humanity's world was the perfect place.
Leon stayed silent for a moment, then smiled softly and rubbed her head.
"Well, I understand your worries, but what you're doing isn't right. Your sister must be deeply worried about you. She might even think you're dead out here. If that's the case, imagine how anxious she must feel every day," Leon explained gently. "Do you really have the heart to let her keep worrying like that?"
"I..." Elina was stunned. She opened her mouth to say something but ended up swallowing her words.
After a few seconds of reflection, Elina realized Leon was right.
She had been selfish, ignoring all the attempts her sister made to contact her and causing her unnecessary worry.
It would be a lie if she said she didn't feel guilty after hearing his words.
Letting out a long sigh, she lowered her head and said, "You're right, Young Master. This is my fault. I apologize."
Leon nodded in satisfaction. "Good! Then, can you contact your sister? If you can, try to apologize and tell her that we're heading to the Elven territory."
Informing the Elf Queen about their arrival was a wise move.
That way, she could order the guards not to point their weapons at them.
Well, with Elina around, it was unlikely anything would happen. But since she had been away from Elven territory for a year, it was possible the Elves believed she was already dead.
Elina didn't refuse Leon's request. "I'll contact her."
She then pulled a pentagon-shaped crystal stone out of her cloak pocket.
"Is that the communication tool she mentioned?" Leon raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
It was the first time he had seen such a device, and he was intrigued.
If it could be mass-produced, he thought, he could stay in touch with Liliana, Athena, Arshley, Luna, and his little girls.
*Buzz!*
Just as Leon was lost in thought, the crystal lit up with a faint green glow.
Moments later, a cold, sharp, and angry voice rang out from it.
"Elina, where have you been all this time?"
The voice seemed to pierce through the distance, and the atmosphere around them instantly turned cold.
Elina swallowed nervously and shot Leon a pleading look—but he quickly turned away, pretending not to see her.
Her expression froze. She hadn't expected Leon to betray her like that!
"Big Sister, listen to me first. I want to apologize—" Before she could finish, the cold voice from the crystal cut her off.
"Apologize? You foolish girl! Do you have any idea how worried I've been?"
"Every second, I felt anxious for you. I couldn't sleep! And you just ignored all my calls? Have you become a rebellious brat?"
"Don't you know—"
Wave after wave of scolding poured from the crystal, making Elina lower her head as her body trembled.
Meanwhile, Leon, watching from the other side, couldn't help but look at her with pity.
"What a poor girl," he whispered. "But honestly, you had this coming. Tsk, tsk, tsk."
