The dimly lit chamber reverberated with Vanica's exuberant laughter. Her voice, sharp yet playful, filled the air with a kind of malice that could make even the bravest shudder. Her black hair cascaded around her face, the golden tiara on her head gleaming ominously under the flickering light of a dying lantern.
"Ohh! Does that mean there's a strong person in the Heart Kingdom?" Vanica asked, her voice charged with excitement, her crimson eye gleaming dangerously.
Megicula, her devil companion, responded with an eccentric tone that sent chills down any listener's spine. "That person is far from ordinary. My curse barely holds against him. He has the power to undo it with ease—a fascinating anomaly."
Vanica's lips curled into a grin, one full of unbridled glee. "Perfect! Let's go meet him. It's been too long since I've had a decent fight. I'm so bored I could scream!"
Megicula's twisted laughter echoed within Vanica's mind. "I'm curious to see how he reacts to my curses. Shall we go, then? We have nothing to lose, and the potential for entertainment is high."
Vanica's anticipation soared as she opened her eyes, their scarlet depths glowing with unrestrained excitement. She stepped forward with a bounce in her stride, ready for the chaos that awaited her.
---
The Heart Kingdom's serene ambiance contrasted sharply with the looming threat. Lolopechka, having finally recovered from her exhaustion, paced nervously. Her delicate hands clutched at her dress as she turned to Gadjah, who stood stoically by the door.
"What is he doing now?" She asked, her voice tinged with curiosity and apprehension.
Gadjah's reply was calm but carried an undercurrent of amusement. "He's in the library, engrossed in your secret tomes. It seems he's fascinated by your research on devils and forbidden magic."
Lolopechka's cheeks flushed crimson.
"W-What?" She stammered, her voice rising in a mixture of embarrassment and alarm.
The thought of someone—a stranger no less—delving into her personal collection of knowledge was mortifying. Those books were her private treasures, meticulously compiled over years of study.
Her panic caused her to move abruptly, tripping over her own dress and landing face-first on the floor with a loud thud.
"What are you doing?" Undine materialized beside her, exasperated yet concerned. She helped the flustered queen to her feet, dusting off her dress. "How many times do I have to remind you to be careful?"
Lolopechka barely registered Undine's words.
"H-He's reading them," She muttered absentmindedly, her mind fixated on the thought of Alex leafing through her cherished volumes.
Undine sighed. "Is he reading all of them?" She asked Gadjah.
He nodded solemnly. "Every last one."
"What a peculiar man," Undine remarked, her tone a blend of intrigue and skepticism.
"I'm going there!" Lolopechka declared, her voice firm despite her evident nervousness. "What if he damages something?"
Without waiting for a reply, she dashed toward the library, only to trip again. Undine caught her mid-fall, shaking her head in disbelief.
"Slow down! You'll hurt yourself before you even reach him," Undine scolded gently.
When they finally arrived at the library, they found Alex sitting cross-legged on the floor, a massive tome balanced on his lap. His expression was intense, his eyes scanning the pages with laser focus.
The flickering candlelight illuminated his face, giving him an almost ethereal glow. The sight was mesmerizing, a tableau of pure concentration.
Even Undine couldn't help but stare.
"He's… quite handsome when he's like this," Undine murmured under her breath.
Lolopechka's cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red. She fidgeted nervously, unsure how to approach him.
As if sensing their presence, Alex finally looked up, his intense gaze softening as it landed on them.
"Oh, do you two need something?" He asked, closing the book with a satisfying thud.
Lolopechka's words tumbled out in a chaotic jumble. "Ah… I… wasn't looking… I mean… the books… you… um…"
Undine stepped in, saving her from further embarrassment. "She's just worried you might damage her collection. Those books are very precious to her."
Alex's lips quirked into a small smile. He stood and extended a hand to Lolopechka. "Don't worry. I've been careful. In fact, your research is nothing short of brilliant. I've never encountered such detailed studies on magic and devils. You're a genius."
Lolopechka's brain seemed to short-circuit. She swayed unsteadily, her face a fiery red, before collapsing into Undine's arms.
Undine sighed. "You've done it now. She's not used to such direct praise."
Alex rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "I… didn't think she'd react like that."
---
Over the next few days, Alex's presence became a constant in the Heart Kingdom. He and Lolopechka spent countless hours discussing magic, his insights into anti-magic providing a fresh perspective to her studies.
Lolopechka, in turn, shared her vast knowledge, her initial nervousness fading as they bonded over their shared love of learning.
Alex even allowed her to examine his body and the unique properties of his anti-magic, much to her scientific delight. Their relationship grew, their time together marked by laughter and mutual respect.
But peace is fleeting.
---
The tranquility of the Heart Kingdom was shattered by a series of deafening explosions. The ground trembled, and the sky darkened as smoke rose from the outskirts of the palace.
Alex's concentration broke as he snapped the book shut, his expression darkening.
"What the hell is going on?" He muttered, his senses flaring as he used Observation Haki to assess the situation.
---
The hall was in chaos. Gadjah stood protectively in front of Lolopechka, his posture rigid as he faced the intruder. Around them, the bodies of two Spirit Guardians lay motionless, their defeat a stark reminder of the enemy's power.
Vanica Zogratis strolled into the room, her expression one of pure delight. She tilted her head, her crimson eye gleaming as she locked her gaze on Lolopechka.
"Yoohoo, Loro~pechka~chan~!" She sang, her voice dripping with mock affection.
Lolopechka froze, her past trauma resurfacing at the sight of Vanica.
"V-Vanica," She stammered, her body trembling.
Vanica's grin widened. "You've been busy, haven't you? Breaking curses, learning new tricks. I'm impressed. But tell me…"
Her voice turned deadly serious. "Will it be enough to entertain me this time?"
Gadjah tightened his grip on his weapon.
"You will not harm the Queen," He declared, his voice firm despite the odds.
Vanica laughed, a sound devoid of sanity. "Oh, You think you can stop me? How adorable!"
She mocked, her voice dripping with disdain as she stepped over the unconscious bodies of the Spirit Guardians, her presence suffocating and oppressive.
Gadjah stood his ground, lightning crackling around him, his mana flaring like a shield.
"You will not lay a finger on the Queen," He declared, his voice steady despite the growing tension in the room.
Vanica's grin widened. "How noble. But also… how utterly futile."
With a flick of her wrist, a wave of cursed energy exploded outward, slamming into the walls and shaking the entire palace. Lolopechka stumbled back, her eyes wide with fear, but Undine quickly materialized, wrapping her protective aura around the trembling queen.
"You won't win this time, Vanica," Undine said coldly, her ethereal voice steady as she prepared to defend her host.
Vanica tilted her head, her grin never faltering. "Oh, Undine. It's been a while. Let's see if your little tricks are enough to amuse me today."
She raised her hand, the air around her distorting as Megicula's curse energy began to manifest.
