My Life as A Death Guard (Warhammer 30K Male MC)

Chapter 65: Chapter 61: Beneath the Surface

The Endurance

Three months after the Duelling Cage incident.

Inside the training hall of the Seventh Company, there stood a temporary duel cage.

Since the farce of that duel, Branka had completely changed Hades' training regimen.

Every morning, Hades followed the veterans for specialized training and lessons, while in the afternoons, actual combat began.

It wasn't just the veterans of the Seventh Company lining up to challenge Hades in one-on-one duels. Veterans from other companies would also come to participate in the duels.

The apothecary of the Seventh Company would remain stationed beside the duel cage, and whenever Hades collapsed from exhaustion, he would immediately check on him.

Typically, Hades, lying on the ground, only needed one dose of concentrated nutrient injection to get back on his feet and continue fighting.

If one dose wasn't enough, then two would suffice.

Thanks to the enhanced nutrient serums of the Death Guard, Hades had completely said goodbye to the days of eating meals, as even his once leisurely mealtimes were interrupted by eager veterans looking to challenge him.

Unlike the usual one-on-one duels, the Terra-born veterans discovered that when fighting Hades, he could quickly devise attack strategies that targeted their individual strengths and weaknesses.

For these veterans, it was an excellent opportunity to improve their combat abilities.

Hades' previous leisurely life in the Armoury had also come to an end. With the Adeptus Mechanicus from Mars around, the Armoury had become exceptionally busy.

With nothing useful for Hades to do there, Branka had pulled him out of the Armoury.

Before leaving, Branka shot a resentful glare at Tech Sergeant Alberto.

For Hades, this was also a great opportunity to improve his combat skills. But he wished they wouldn't treat him like an NPC, spawning at regular intervals for challenges.

Still, there was no choice. Surrounded by a steady stream of veterans challenging him one-on-one, Hades could only embrace the situation with a mix of pain and joy.

This is what happens when you want to slack off, but your well-meaning comrades drag you up for a beating.

During this time, Hades' proficiency in both listening and speaking Low Gothic improved rapidly.

He could now curse back at Branka in Low Gothic!

Though most of the time, it was Hades muttering a few complaints under his breath before being drilled to the bone by Branka, who insisted it was for his own good.

"Thank you very much for that," Hades thought sarcastically.

Another new recruit in the Seventh Company, Vorx, had a completely different training path from Hades.

Every day, Vorx would be sent by Branka to different companies to train with them.

Hades felt puzzled and annoyed by this. Why was he the one getting beaten up every day?

He went to Branka to ask why Vorx had such a different training plan, but the usually rough and direct veteran merely rolled his eyes at him.

"How should I know? I just do what I'm told. If you're so curious, ask Garro."

Hades fell silent.

Although he had quite literally fought his way into being accepted by the veterans, he still didn't know anyone from the higher ranks except Branka.

Theoretically, though, he could go directly to Mortarion.

But Hades figured that the Terra-born were probably more aware of their own actions than Mortarion was, so asking him wouldn't help much.

Besides, Mortarion wasn't likely to concern himself with such trivial matters.

So, Hades decided to go straight to Vorx for answers.

Vorx, looking at the curious and innocent-faced Hades, thought for a moment before cautiously replying,

"It's possible that Branka and the others want me to interact more with the Barbarus-born."

What?!

So that's what they were thinking.

It seems that Captain Garro of the Seventh Company is not what Hades imagined, and he wants the Seventh Company to gradually fade away.

But what they didn't know was that Garro was indeed such a person, and the one who actually instructed Garro to do this was the captain of the first company, Barasine.

The Endurance, Librarium, hidden corner.

At the same time…

Chief Librarian Fernando stood motionless, deep in thought.

After Ugo's absurd behavior, the Primarch immediately ordered an investigation into the past actions of Ugo and Calas Typhon.

Unsurprisingly, all their little secrets were laid bare for all to see.

Fernando still remembered the day he was summoned to the meeting room to await the Primarch's final decision.

The Death Guard had their own military court, but due to the unique nature of this incident, Primarch Mortarion personally led the investigation and judgment.

Fernando, as the representative of the Librarians, stood in the jury area.

The cold aura radiating from the Primarch made the atmosphere in the room dull and oppressive.

Fernando subtly swallowed.

The Librarians teaching psyker abilities to legionaries was a clear violation of regulations. Even if Mortarion sentenced them to death, it wouldn't be an unjust punishment.

Given the Primarch's prior attitude towards both the Librarians and psykers, Fernando didn't believe that Calas Typhon and Ugo would escape judgment.

And yet...

The Primarch let them go.

This was no ordinary judgment!

The Librarians hadn't made any notable moves before, and Captain Barasine had no particular reason to protect them.

There was only one possibility—Calas Typhon had secretly gone to see the Primarch!

In the end, Ugo was demoted to the lowest rank of the Librarium, with a lifetime ban on promotions, and Calas Typhon was forbidden from joining the Librarium.

Moreover, the already overlooked Librarium would see its status sink even lower within the Death Guard.

This incident had shaken the leadership of the Terra-born faction.

The Primarch's forgiveness toward the Barbarus-born was far more lenient than they had expected, forcing them to rethink their strategies.

Fernando sighed.

Although he was also concerned about the future of the legion, ever since the Primarch's return, the Librarians had been without a future.

But that didn't matter.

Fernando knew that the Primarch's attitude towards psykers was correct.

In the dead silence of the librarium, ensuring no one was around, Fernando stood in the corner, muttering incantations under his breath.

Before him, a bookshelf slowly opened as the spell was recited.

Within the hidden chamber, flashes of white psychic light and ominous green energy pulsed intensely.

Fernando slipped into the chamber, and as the bookshelf quietly returned to its original place, the librarium resumed its quiet, as if no one had ever been there.

"The fluctuations received in the Storm Sector earlier—the coordinates are accurate. It is here, my lord,"

Binary code swiftly spread through the air, being received by the Tech-Priest on the other side.

In less than a few milliseconds, the stream of data, containing large amounts of location coordinates, information, and a myriad of scientific terms, was decoded.

A small light on the metal-covered face of the Tech-Priest blinked briefly.

"This is good news. The lords of Mars will be pleased with our discovery."

"Praise be the Omnissiah."

"Praise be the Omnissiah."
