Quests: Making A Team (part 18)
War between teams;
The Gold slot represented the hope that the holder had a chance to reach the Hightown one day and become a gold member of the central branch of the Guild.
All the teams sitting in the Guild hall were shocked when the gold slot was given to a newbie team and they were all demoted from any privilege. They gave it some thought, but anyhow they looked at it, it seemed biased to them. So what if this team did not receive any backlash. It was all because they joined in at the last week of the month. If they had gone through the whole month, they would surely have incurred huge loses.
Qiao observed the gold slot and handed it back after observing for some moment, "I think this is too precious to be carried around and should remain safe with the Guild. During a hunt it has a high chance that it may fall somewhere." If this thing was really important then he didn't wish to be the one to lose it. After observing the atmosphere of the Guild hall, he could tell that he had gathered unwanted attention to him and his team.
He should be careful more than ever.
Though it was not his wish but he had made some blood enemies and it would not be wise to close his eyes like a pigeon to assume that the cat was not eyeing him. Turning a blind eye would be the worst mistake to commit now.
His perseverance meant a lot and his enemies might not be able to reach him with ease if he continued on with his current pace. That was what he should focus on right now.
By his estimate, two more hunt and he should reach level three. Then after two more levels he would be able to leave this Middletown. According to his calculations if all went smoothly, he might be able to reach level seven in four months depending on his current circumstance.
With gaining more experience he will eventually be able to learn about how he should hunt alone and madly collect experience points.
But while all these calculations were running in his mind, the wicked hunter had chosen a different path for him. He could not afford for this guy to reach level nine in the span of less than a year as then, he might not able to bear the loss.
The wicked hunter had planned out earlier that the youth would not able to reach level nine in one year in no scenario and then the aura of death would kill him. And finally he would be set free from his predicament. But judging from the current pace of the youth, it would take him less than a year to be a level nine hunter if everything went smoothly. All his efforts would go to waste if the youth really became a top hunter, he would then be forced to battle him face to face and the one who would be defeated would be the loser in the end.
It wasn't that he feared battling another level nine hunter, but he knew whenever this youth reached level nine and declared a challenge against him, it would trigger at the area of the morgue where he got cursed. The wicked hunter feared that place now and did not want to take any such risk.
That place was called Hell of Chaos and from just the name one could imagine what kind of place it could be. The wicked hunter was cursed at that place so he naturally fears it more than anyone. Which was why wanted the youth to die instead of him. But now looking at the progress of the youth he had to instead plan some surprise for him as soon as he reached above level six.
He has no control over his advancement but sure he could change the circumstances around him to get confused and delay his advancement. This was what looked feasible for now. He had to make sure that this guy did not die of any other causes either in this year or the curse would attack him again. The youth was replacing him to bear the brunt of the curse and therefore in one year's time he had to slow down his advancement but at the same time make sure he did not die.
Meanwhile, Qiao was totally unaware that the wicked hunter was planning something to slow down his leveling.
In the middle of these arrogant chasers and hunter who liked to suppress the juniors, he was like a big trouble for them. In many years they had never been disturbed by revolt or dissident newbie, so Qiao was naturally a sore to their eyes.
As long as he was unwilling to follow their silent customs, they would keep bothering him.
Qiao might have been obedient but he had not much time to waste for their so-called arrogance.
....
"Sure, but don't forget to collect your privilege perks. Also you and your team members will be assigned new abodes now," the reception man picked the gold slot and kept it under the desk. He could understand why the youth was taking this extra care.
Linwin and Quipu both were not interested until now but as soon as they heard about the new abode, they could not help but stretch their eyes wide open. It had been a long time since they had not slept in a comfortable room.
Also, they wanted to know about the perks which this senior mentioned.
The other teams instead felt that their throats were sore. They were immensely unhappy but for now they could not show it. Seeing that most of the teams had been damaged, they were sure that this year the slots would not renew. But this newbie team not only proved them wrong instead their abodes were going to be replaced with worst ones now.
Few newbies who were hired to do small tasks under the senior led Qiao and his men toward the new abodes. Also, their perks would be submitted to their account and the list would be sent to them later. For now, the senior had lot of orders to pass on so he could not explain every single detail.
Since the teams clearly knew the rules and their place, they have no say in the procedure and could only work harder for the next year.
But they would not be going easy on the newbie team for sure.
This team snatched their limelight and their standing in the Guild.
Thinking this, the team leader who lost his whole level kicked one of his team members, making him fall on the ground, "Because of your stupidity, I am faced with such humiliations. Get lost from my team, you can disappear from here as you have no place in my team now." he yelled at the one who fell on the ground with his kick.
The team leaders had rights to decide whom he wanted to keep in his team and whom he didn't want to depending on their performance. First two teams had already lost two members so they could not do something like this.
The man who fell on the ground begged for a chance but the team leader turned his face away, not willing to listen.
