Chapter 63: The Elder Brother's concern
Izana sits in his dimly lit room, staring out at the night sky. His thoughts are heavy, and his brow furrows in deep concentration.
There's a weight on his shoulders that he hasn't been able to shake for years—his brother, Toshinori, the one who was supposed to be unbeatable, had "died." But Izana never believed it.
Toshinori was too strong, too resilient, and there were too many unanswered questions surrounding his disappearance.
Izana: muttering to himself "There's no way Toshinori died like this. Not from some attack... and not without a trace. It doesn't add up."
He clenches his fists as memories of his brother flash through his mind. Toshinori was always pushing the limits, becoming stronger with each battle, his Devil powers evolving into something otherworldly.
A mere attack couldn't have ended him—especially without any trace of a body. Izana feels his instincts screaming at him that the truth is still out there, hidden behind lies and shadows.
Izana: angrily "No body was ever found. How can anyone believe he's truly gone? Ellen's father… Diego… I know he's involved. But even he can't destroy Toshinori that easily."
He stands up abruptly, pacing around the room, his mind racing. He had been gathering information in secret ever since Toshinori's supposed death, knowing that something was off.
He'd learned things about Ellen's father, Diego, things that could explain why Toshinori was targeted, but it still didn't answer how someone as powerful as his brother could be taken down without a trace.
Izana: thinking out loud "Diego's been manipulating things behind the scenes, but even he must know Toshinori was no ordinary opponent. He had power beyond most of us… He had Ellen. He had his Devil Arm. This… this is something else."
His thoughts return to Hawk, Toshinori's son, who was growing up without knowing the truth.
Izana feels a pang of guilt for keeping his suspicions to himself.
But what could he tell Hawk, or even Ellen, without proof? The last thing he wanted was to give them false hope.
Izana: determined "But I can't keep quiet anymore. Hawk deserves to know the truth. He needs to know his father might still be out there."
Izana stops pacing and takes a deep breath, staring at a picture of Toshinori that sits on his desk.
His brother had always been there for him, always pushing him to be stronger, to protect their family.
And now, Izana had to do the same. He couldn't let this go. He wouldn't let his brother's legacy fade into mystery.
Izana: softly, but with resolve "I'll find the truth, Toshinori. I'll bring you back. Whatever it takes."
He sits down, determination flooding through him. He would confront Diego if he had to.
He would dig deeper into the shadows. There was no way Toshinori was gone—not like this.
Izana: clenching his fist "I won't stop until I find out what really happened."
Izana, deep in thought, is startled slightly as a pair of arms wrap around him from behind.
It's Eva, his wife and Ellen's younger twin sister, who softly rests her head on his shoulder.
She feels the tension in him and senses that something heavy is on his mind.
Eva: gently "Izana… what's on your mind? I can tell something's bothering you."
Izana pauses, feeling the warmth of her embrace but not wanting to drag her into the storm of thoughts that have been consuming him.
He forces a small smile and shakes his head slightly, hoping to divert her concern.
Izana: calmly "It's nothing, Eva. Just… thinking about some things. You know how it is."
Eva tightens her hold slightly, sensing that he's holding something back.
Being his wife and Ellen's twin, she knows Izana well enough to understand when he's trying to protect her from something deeper.
She moves around to face him, her eyes filled with concern.
Eva: softly "You don't have to hide things from me, Izana. We're in this together, remember? Whatever it is, you can talk to me."
Izana looks into her eyes, feeling a pang of guilt. Eva had already been through so much, with Ellen's struggles and the weight of their family's secrets. He didn't want to add to her worries, especially since he had no concrete answers about Toshinori's disappearance.
Izana: gently brushing her cheek "I know, Eva. But I don't want you to worry about things that… that might not even be real. I just need some time to figure it out on my own."
Eva's gaze softens, but she's not entirely convinced. She knows Izana too well to believe he's truly at peace with whatever is on his mind.
Still, she respects his space, trusting that when the time is right, he'll share more with her.
Eva: nodding slowly "Alright. But just know, I'm here for you. You don't have to carry everything alone."
Izana smiles slightly, grateful for her understanding, but the weight of his thoughts still lingers.
Toshinori, his twin brother, was out there somewhere, and Izana knew he couldn't rest until the truth was uncovered.
But for now, he keeps his resolve hidden, not wanting to worry Eva with uncertainties.
Izana: softly "I know. Thank you, Eva."
Eva smiles back at him, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead before stepping back.
Eva: playfully "But if you keep all this brooding up, I'll have to get Ellen involved. You know she's just as stubborn as you are."
Izana chuckles at that, the tension in the room lifting slightly as Eva brings in her lighthearted nature.
Izana: smirking "Yeah, I wouldn't want that. She'd never let me hear the end of it."
Eva laughs, giving him one last look before leaving the room, but deep down, she knows that whatever's weighing on him isn't over yet. Izana watches her go, his expression softening as she disappears down the hall. But as soon as she's out of sight, the weight of his mission returns to him.
Izana: quietly, to himself "I'll find you, Toshinori. And when I do, we'll set things right."
