Chapter 34: Beyond Plus Ultra (Vol 1)
The studio lights dimmed as the "Beyond Plus Ultra" logo flashed across the screen. Upbeat music played as the camera panned across a cozy set decorated with hero memorabilia. Wisteria, dressed in her signature blue Stitch kigurumi, sat cross-legged on a plush couch. Next to her, Yoichi lounged in casual clothes, looking slightly uncomfortable under the bright lights.
"Welcome back, everyone!" Wisteria waved enthusiastically at the camera. "I'm Wisteria, author of 'My Hero Academia: Limitless,' and this is our protagonist, Yoichi Nakamura!"
Yoichi gave a half-hearted wave. "Yo."
"We're here to answer some burning questions from our readers about Volume 1," Wisteria continued. "So let's jump right in!"
A holographic screen appeared, displaying the first question.
"Ah, the big one," Wisteria nodded. "Will Yoichi gain all of Satoru Gojo's powers, and how does his barrier actually work?"
She adjusted her glasses, adopting a serious expression. "When I started this project, I knew I wanted to play with Gojo's powers. But here's the thing – slapping those abilities directly into the MHA world would've been a disaster."
Yoichi raised an eyebrow. "How so?"
"Well, think about it," Wisteria explained. "Either we'd need constant 'anti-Limitless' enemies, which gets old fast, or we'd have to crank up MHA's power levels to ridiculous heights. Neither option felt right."
She gestured animatedly as she continued. "That's why I tweaked how Limitless works. Remember when Kuro broke through your barrier? That wasn't an accident. Showing that vulnerability early on was crucial."
"Thanks for that, by the way," Yoichi muttered.
Wisteria grinned. "You're welcome! As for gaining Gojo's full arsenal – it's coming, but slowly. Think of it like unlocking new skills in a video game. You just got Azure in a big fight, then spend time mastering it before the other stuff shows up."
"And the Domain Expansion?" Yoichi asked, a hint of excitement in his voice.
"Patience, young padawan," Wisteria wagged her finger. "I've got plans for this story to run long. Can't open Pandora's box too early, you know?"
The holographic screen flickered, displaying the next question.
Wisteria's eyes lit up. "Ooh, good one! Yes, we've incorporated elements from ZZZ and JJK so far. As for future crossovers... well..."
Her expression shifted to what Yoichi recognized as her 'plotting face' – a slightly manic grin that usually meant trouble for his character.
"Let's just say the MHA world is about to get a lot bigger," Wisteria said cryptically. "New arcs, expanded storylines – I'm aiming for this to span two in-world years."
"Two years?" Yoichi's eyes widened. "That's... a lot of character development."
Wisteria nodded. "Exactly! One thing that always bugged me about the original MHA was how quickly Class 1-A outpaced pro heroes. I get that they're strong, but becoming top-tier in just one year felt... off."
"So, you're spreading things out?" Yoichi asked.
"Yep! We'll still hit the major canon beats, but with plenty of new stuff mixed in. It'll give everyone more room to grow naturally."
The next question appeared, causing Yoichi to groan audibly.
Wisteria opened her mouth to answer, but Yoichi cut her off. "No more than ten! Please!"
"Relax," Wisteria laughed. "I was going to say that anyway. Honestly, I don't have a set number yet, but it'll definitely be under ten."
She turned to the camera, her expression serious. "I want to make one thing clear – this isn't going to be one of those stories where every woman falls for Yoichi at first sight. That's not how relationships work. We're building chemistry, people!"
Yoichi visibly relaxed. "Thank god."
The next question flashed on screen, causing Wisteria to wince slightly.
"Ah... yeah. That." She sighed, running a hand through her hair. "I'll be honest – when I started writing, I envisioned a darker story. Vigilante Yoichi, morally gray choices, the works."
"What changed?" Yoichi asked, genuinely curious.
"You did, actually," Wisteria admitted. "After writing that early interaction between you, Katsumi, and Midoriya... something clicked. The dynamic felt right. Plus, considering how the original MHA ended, I decided to lean into the more hopeful, heroic elements."
She looked slightly sheepish. "By the time I made that choice, though, readers already knew about your hitman backstory. I'm planning on editing those early chapters. Now, you died in a gang-related incident in Chicago. Less baggage, but still adds some depth."
Yoichi nodded slowly. "I... think I prefer that, actually."
"Me too," Wisteria agreed.
The holographic screen shifted once more.
Wisteria's face lit up. "Oh, absolutely! Volume 2 is going to have a lot more slice-of-life moments. We're pushing the Sports Festival to just before the end of the first semester, so there's plenty of room for school shenanigans."
"Should I be worried?" Yoichi asked warily.
"Always," Wisteria grinned. "But in a fun way, I promise!"
The holographic screen shifted again, displaying a question that made Wisteria pause. She adjusted her Stitch hood, which had slipped over her eyes.
"What inspired this story?" She leaned back into the couch, tapping her chin. "You know, it's funny. There was this fanfic I read a while back - completely different from what I'm writing now, but it stuck with me."
Yoichi raised an eyebrow. "Different how?"
"It followed Class 1-B, actually. The main character had these crazy energy powers." Wisteria's eyes lit up as she remembered. "The writer did something really cool with the world-building. But then one day - poof. Story disappeared."
"They just... deleted it?"
"Yeah." Wisteria frowned. "It happens sometimes. Writers get discouraged, or life gets in the way. But that story had something special, you know? It wasn't just rehashing canon events with an OC slapped on top."
She pulled her legs up onto the couch, getting comfortable. "After that, I started thinking about what I'd want to write. The original My Hero Academia was ending around then, and..."
"And?" Yoichi prompted.
"It felt rushed." Wisteria made a face. "Like they were sprinting to wrap everything up. Don't get me wrong - I love MHA, but the ending left me wanting more. Better pacing, more character development, that sort of thing."
The studio lights dimmed slightly as she continued. "Then I got into Jujutsu Kaisen and Dandadan. JJK has this incredible power system and these complex characters dealing with heavy stuff, but it never loses its humanity. And Dandadan?" She grinned. "It's just pure chaos in the best way. The character interactions are gold."
"So you decided to throw it all in a blender?" Yoichi smirked.
"Pretty much!" Wisteria laughed. "But seriously, I wanted to take what worked from each series. MHA's world and core themes about heroism. JJK's power system and character depth. Dandadan's humor and heart."
She gestured at Yoichi. "Take you, for example. Your powers might come from JJK, but your personality developed from wanting to subvert the typical 'overpowered protagonist' trope. You're strong, yeah, but you're also a disaster who can't remember where he put his phone five minutes ago."
"Hey!" Yoichi protested.
"Am I wrong?"
"...no."
"Exactly." Wisteria turned back to the camera. "That's what makes it fun to write. These characters aren't just powersets with legs. They're people who happen to have powers."
The holographic screen flickered, showing another question. Wisteria squinted at it.
"'Why change so much from canon?'" She read aloud. "Because canon already exists! If you want that story, it's right there. I wanted to create something that could stand on its own."
She sat up straighter. "Like moving the Sports Festival to later in the year. In canon, these kids had what, a month of actual hero training before this massive public tournament? That never sat right with me. Now we have time to show them learning, growing, making mistakes..."
"Getting thrown into walls by Kuro-sensei," Yoichi muttered.
"Character building!" Wisteria chirped. "Speaking of which, let's talk about the upcoming arcs-"
"No spoilers!" A voice called from off-camera.
Wisteria pouted. "Fine, fine."
The holographic screen changed again, and Wisteria's eyes widened. "Ooh, good question! 'How do you balance keeping familiar elements while making the story fresh?'"
She thought for a moment. "It's like... okay, you know how cover songs work? The best ones capture what made the original special while bringing something new to it. That's what I'm aiming for."
"Take Class 1-A," she continued. "The core dynamics are there - Midoriya's determination, Bakugo's drive to win, Todoroki's family issues. But now they're bouncing off new elements. How does Bakugo deal with someone who's genuinely not intimidated by her? What happens when Midoriya sees a different path to becoming a symbol of peace?"
"You're having way too much fun with this," Yoichi observed.
"Obviously!" Wisteria grinned. "That's the whole point. If I'm not enjoying writing it, how can I expect anyone to enjoy reading it?"
The final question appeared, causing Yoichi to groan and Wisteria to burst out laughing.
"Oh, this is gonna be good," Wisteria said, wiping tears from her eyes. "So, Yoichi – out of all the women in the show, who do you find the most attractive? And can they get your mom's number?"
Yoichi pinched the bridge of his nose. "You know they're all going to see this, right?"
"That's half the fun!" Wisteria exclaimed. "Come on, spill. You had that moment with Kaori, Hitomi seemed pretty comfortable with you, and let's not forget Yaoyorozu, Jiro, Uraraka, Katsumi..."
"I plead the fifth," Yoichi said firmly.
"We're in Japan, that doesn't apply here," Wisteria countered.
Yoichi sighed deeply. "They're all... uniquely attractive in their own ways. Can we leave it at that?"
"Boooring," Wisteria pouted. "Fine, be diplomatic. But mark my words – this question will come up again in-universe, and you won't be able to dodge it then!"
"Great," Yoichi muttered.
Wisteria turned back to the camera with a bright smile. "And that's all the time we have for today's Q&A! Thank you all so much for reading Volume 1 of 'My Hero Academia: Limitless.' We've got so much more in store for you!"
"Any hints?" Yoichi asked, eyebrow raised.
Wisteria's grin turned mischievous. "Let's just say... things are about to get very interesting at U.A. Stay tuned, everyone!"
As the outro music began to play, Wisteria leaned in to whisper to Yoichi. "Seriously though, can I get your mom's number? For... research purposes."
Yoichi's exasperated groan was cut off as the screen faded to black.
BEHIND THE SCENES
As soon as the cameras stopped rolling, Wisteria let out a long sigh and slumped back into the couch. "Phew! That was more nerve-wracking than I expected."
Yoichi stretched, looking relieved. "You're telling me. I thought I was going to combust when that last question came up."
"Oh, come on," Wisteria grinned, nudging him with her elbow. "It wasn't that bad. Besides, you handled it like a pro."
"Thanks," Yoichi said dryly. "I've had practice dodging awkward questions lately."
Wisteria's expression softened. "Hey, for what it's worth, I'm sorry about the whole hitman backstory thing. I really should have thought that through better."
Yoichi waved her off. "It's fine. Like you said, the new backstory works better anyway. Although..." He trailed off, looking thoughtful.
"Although what?" Wisteria prompted.
"I can't help but wonder how things might have gone if you'd stuck with the original dark storyline," Yoichi admitted. "Not that I'm complaining about being a hero, but... it could have been interesting."
Wisteria nodded slowly. "I've thought about that too. Maybe in another universe, there's a vigilante Yoichi out there, walking a much darker path."
They sat in contemplative silence for a moment before Wisteria clapped her hands together. "But that's not our story! We've got a whole world of heroics ahead of us."
"Speaking of which," Yoichi said, leaning forward. "You mentioned new arcs and expanded storylines. Care to share any details?"
Wisteria's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Oh, I've got plans, my friend. Big plans. How do you feel about a class trip that goes horribly wrong?
Yoichi groaned. "Why do I get the feeling my life is about to get a lot more complicated?"
"Because it absolutely is," Wisteria said cheerfully. "But that's what makes for a good story! Trust me, the readers are going to love what's coming next."
"And what about my... personal life?" Yoichi asked hesitantly. "You seemed pretty set on this whole 'harem' thing."
Wisteria's expression turned serious. "Look, I know it might seem like I'm just throwing girls at you for the sake of drama, but I promise there's more to it than that. Each relationship – romantic or platonic – is going to be important for your character growth."
She paused, considering her words carefully. "It's not about collecting love interests like trophies. It's about exploring different aspects of yourself through meaningful connections. Some might develop into romance, others might not. The important thing is that they all matter."
Yoichi nodded slowly. "I... think I get it. It's more about the journey than the destination, right?"
"Exactly!" Wisteria beamed. "And speaking of journeys, we should probably start preparing for Volume 2. We've got a lot of ground to cover before the Sports Festival."
As they stood up to leave the set, Yoichi couldn't help but ask one last question. "So... am I ever going to get that Domain Expansion?"
Wisteria's mischievous grin returned full force. "Oh, Yoichi. When you do, it's going to be absolutely spectacular. But you're going to have to work for it."
"Bring it on," Yoichi said, a determined glint in his eye.
As they walked off the set, chatting about potential training montages and character arcs, the studio lights dimmed. The "Beyond Plus Ultra" logo flashed once more across the empty stage, a promise of adventures yet to come.
