Chapter 5: TRUTH
I found myself in a difficult situation, without money or identification. It seemed impossible for me to go anywhere, especially considering the new security measures in place within the city. Surveillance cameras and drones were keeping a watchful eye on both villains and unregistered powerholders.
In a moment of realization, I remembered the garage in the hospital building. Without hesitation, I hurried towards the hospital, hoping to find a means of escape. Black Widow, who was ready to seduce me for power, had likely left a car for me in the garage, just like how she left the clothes. I couldn't believe I had forgotten about it earlier.
As I entered the hospital gate, I spotted the sign for the garage on the left wall. Following the arrows, I made my way inside.
To my surprise, there it was—a magnificent car that caught my eye immediately. It was not just any car but the latest, highly customized model from ZXr: the Zxr Turbo 9000R Limited Edition. Its sleek black exterior boasted flame pinstripes, and the light black tinted glass suggested it was bulletproof. The customized wheel rims and front grills added to its allure. And the best part? This particular vehicle was one of only ten Limited Edition cars in the entire world.
To my amazement, I noticed two blue cylinders under the back seat, labeled with familiar markings. Could it be? NOS. This car could even fly.
As I approached the vehicle, an AI voice greeted me, welcoming me inside. I couldn't contain my excitement as I took a seat behind the wheel. The car's interior was as exotic and luxurious as I had ever seen. The glossy wooden finish, ambient LEDs, and mini-fridge, along with the leather-like seats, truly embodied ultimate luxury. And then there it was—the big red button on the steering wheel, a feature everyone knows the purpose of. But enough about the car.
Curious about the time that had passed, I asked the AI, "What day is it today?"
The AI responded, "<10 March 2023>. The New York incident in this timeline occurred four years ago."
Realizing I had been unconscious for three days, I knew it was time to leave. Thankfully, I had already obtained my driving license, so I didn't have to rely solely on the AI.
My eyes fell on the side seat. There was a small envelope. I opened it and found my new driver's license, car papers, and other papers required to drive and own a car. I will thank her next time we meet.
With a smile, I pressed the start button. The car emitted a slight humming sound before falling silent. A small GPS map appeared on the front glass, but I knew the city well enough not to need it.
"AI, deactivate auto transmission," I commanded. I had always preferred manual transmission, and this car was no exception.
The AI responded, "
To my right, a small panel shifted, revealing the manual gear stick. I was thrilled—everything was falling into place. However, a nagging thought interrupted my excitement. Black Widow had showered me with attention, expensive clothes, and now an expensive car. Was she trying to be my sugar momma? Or perhaps I was her sugar boy?
I pressed the accelerator, ready to embark on my new journey. But before I made any decisions, I needed to assess my situation and find a way to earn money quickly. With my powers, joining a hero squad and fighting villains seemed like one option. Alternatively, I could tap into my savings and invest in a junkyard. Wealthy individuals often discarded their cars and other valuables after just a few years of use. With my abilities, I could enhance and modify these items, swapping their labels for more valuable alternatives. I could establish my own company and watch the money flow in, without having to endanger my life in battles. What could possibly go wrong with buying a junkyard and starting a small business?
...
Lost in my thoughts, I arrived at my home within an hour, thanks to the supercar's speed.
The lights are on. Mom and Jen must have arrived.
As I pulled into the garage, I noticed something was amiss—my Mustang was missing. My garage could hold up to four cars, and the last time I checked, my Mustang was parked there. It had to be her. Only she knew the lock sequence. But it's gone... That bitch... I will kill her. It has to be her. Other than me, only she knew the lock sequence. Ohohohohoh!!! Your name just moved up to number 1 on my enemy list.
Shaking my head, I parked my new beast in my empty garage. Although it pains my heart, I can't do anything. Moreover, I have explained my physical condition to my family and those expensive interior furnishings... Haaa. It's gonna be a headache.
I don't want to run anymore, but I can't tell them that I blew up all my money. They will hate me for that... Right? Yeah, I am sure they will hate me. But I don't want to lie anymore.
Fuck!!! Ok! I will tell the truth. They might blame and hate me, but it's better than lying. It's time to start a new one. Lie took away everything from me. I ain't gonna make the same mistake again.
I walked to the front door. My hands were cold, and my throat was parched. It's been too long since I saw my family. They must be sad and worried since I haven't called them even once in the past few months. On top of that, I have to drop that bomb... My life is a mess.
I slapped my cheeks and pressed the calling bell. It's time to face my family's wrath. My mom is gonna beat me up. I can never win against her inhumane strength. Shit!!! I am having second thoughts. Maybe I shouldn't tell them the truth...
The door opened while I was standing with a baffled expression, lost in my thoughts.
"Alex!!! Where have you been for the past three days? And you... What happened to you?" My mom asked. From her expression, she looks worried.
Ah! Here we go.
