Chapter 25 - Magic Handguns Selling Like Hotcakes
Surprisingly, the Magic Solvent actually had an effect.
In previous experimental results, it only extended life expectancy briefly, but this time it’s said to have restored consciousness.
Professor Kim went on to explain several more things, but since only the results mattered, he just half-listened.
He found talking with the young man before him more interesting.
The conversation between Han-wol and the chairman flowed smoothly.
“Hahaha! You’re already in a doctoral program at your age? I should scout you later!”
“Oh my, your praise is too much. I’m still just a novice.”
“No, I’m serious, Han-wol. I don’t make empty compliments.”
‘He’s much more articulate than I expected.’
The chairman had long forgotten Han-wol’s initial arrogant attitude.
At that moment, Han-wol handed the chairman an elegantly wrapped box, saying he wanted to express his gratitude.
It was large enough to require both hands to hold.
“Well, this is unexpected. What have I done to deserve such a gift?”
“Please accept it. Otherwise, I won’t feel at ease.”
Eventually, the chairman accepted the box Han-wol offered.
“It’s nothing special, so you can open it right away.”
“Shall I? Alright. I’ll do as you say.”
The chairman began unwrapping the package as Han-wol suggested.
It took a little time since the box was larger than expected.
But what emerged was…
The “very secret briefcase” that the chairman had given to Professor Kim.
“T-this is…”
“Why don’t you open it?”
Han-wol spoke arrogantly, crossing his legs and resting his arms on the back of the sofa.
“Oh, I’ve already taken all the illegal documents and the Magic Solvent. Don’t worry.”
The chairman looked with widened eyes, alternating between the briefcase and Han-wol, before roughly opening the briefcase.
Inside was a tablet that was turned on.
“Press the play button.”
Han-wol said in a commanding tone.
The chairman pressed the play button with trembling hands.
Only a black screen appeared.
But one sound was clearly audible.
A sound that should never be leaked to the outside world.
It was Professor Kim confessing to all the corruption related to the chairman.
The video ended.
The chairman’s face was deeply wrinkled, as if he had aged ten years.
“What is the meaning of this…”
“Pick up the tablet.”
Han-wol commanded again, dismissing the chairman’s angry voice.
“What are you waiting for? Hurry up.”
The chairman trembled with clenched fists.
But ultimately, he had no choice but to follow Han-wol’s instructions.
When he picked up the tablet, what he saw were the drugs the chairman had included with the Magic Solvent.
Pentobarbital, used as a sedative, and muscle relaxants.
These were drugs typically used in hospitals for euthanasia.
And currently, there was only one implication.
Han-wol maintained silence, only moving his arm to toss a syringe onto the desk.
Then he said:
“So, what will you do?”
To cut to the conclusion, the chairman became someone who would drop dead at a single word from Han-wol.
More precisely, he was in the state of a death row inmate with a scheduled execution date.
But like a death row inmate, the chairman himself didn’t know when he would die.
Of course, the process of getting to this point wasn’t smooth.
Recalling what the chairman said when he first threw the syringe:
“Do you know who I am to be doing this?!”
“Of course I know. Samsung Hospital Chairman Yeom Ho-kwon. Your younger brother, Yeom Jae-won, runs CareCAMP, a supply company, right?”
“…So what?”
“I’m just envious. Your pockets have been quite full recently, haven’t they?”
“…What?”
“Seongwoo Meditech, Hwasin Medical Equipment, Damax, Aesung&S, what else was there? Anyway, you extorted about 1 billion won in kickbacks from them, right? And gave your brother about 300 million.”
“…!?”
“The excuse was something like remodeling the hospital funeral hall, wasn’t it?”
“T-that!”
“But no construction was done? Looking at it, it seems quite old—you could at least do some interior work. You could have bought from Jedang Pharmaceutical later. 3 billion won was too much.”
Around the middle of this exchange, the chairman began to feign innocence.
“Preposterous! You could get in big trouble making accusations without evidence!”
“Evidence? I have plenty. The video I just showed you, and Professor Kim standing behind me is pretty clear evidence, isn’t he?”
“Professor Kim…!”
“Need more? I can tell you more. 123.08 million won to Professor Gong Ho-jin, 133.77 million won to Professor Hwang Jung-hyun. I can name ten more people. Is that okay?”
“H-how do you know that…!? Even Professor Kim doesn’t know that… hmph!”
And at the end:
“Oh, I forgot to congratulate you. Congratulations.”
“W-what do you want…?”
“Come on, what would I want? I just want to congratulate you. Your daughter was hired in the accounting department, right? Out of 109 applicants, only one person was accepted, and that person was your daughter! You really pulled some strings there, didn’t you?”
“Tell me what you want. I’ll do anything within my power, okay…?”
“What I want? Well, let’s throw a celebration party. While we’re at it, let’s invite the deputy director and the purchasing team manager too. They helped your daughter a lot, didn’t they? They even exchanged texts directly with your daughter, right? Helping her prepare for the interview and all.”
“I said, what do you want…!”
The chairman slammed his hand on the desk.
He was breathing heavily, and his eyes were already trembling in a state of panic.
But Han-wol just casually picked his ear with his pinky finger, as if it were nothing significant.
“What do I want? You still don’t get it?”
Then Han-wol took out a new syringe from his pocket.
This time, he kindly removed the needle cap and filled it with the euthanasia drug himself.
“Y-you’re joking…?”
Han-wol slowly approached the chairman with an expressionless face.
A drop of transparent liquid fell from the needle with a plop.
“Joking?”
Han-wol went behind the chairman and grabbed his neck.
The chairman struggled to break free, but Han-wol’s hand didn’t budge.
“H-how do you think you’ll get away with this…!”
“Do you really think I can’t handle it?”
The needle in Han-wol’s hand began to approach the chairman’s neck.
“N-no… s-stop… please…!”
The chairman kept repeating the same words like a broken music box.
Soon, he felt something sharp touch his neck.
Han-wol pushed the plunger.
Tsssk!
“Gyaaaaaah!?”
The chairman fainted with foam in his mouth.
Han-wol shook off his damp hand.
Then he tossed the syringe that had contained some liquid onto the desk.
There was no needle mark on the chairman’s neck, only a nail mark as if he had been pinched.
Han-wol said to Professor Kim:
“From today, report on the chairman’s movements every day without fail, and don’t let him anywhere near Seol-ha. And don’t get any strange ideas yourself.”
“A-alright…”
“And that paper I wrote for you? Show one page to the chairman every day. Guys like him will show their teeth if things get even slightly relaxed.”
The “paper” referred to detailed accounts of all sorts of corruption related to the chairman, including specific details.
The source was, of course, Han-wol’s mind.
He was slightly skeptical at first, but judging from the chairman’s reaction, events seemed to be unfolding exactly as they had before the regression.
The only difference was that something that should have happened five years later was happening much sooner.
“Yes, I’ll do that.”
“Oh, and tell the chairman to cover Seol-ha’s hospital expenses. As a sponsorship or donation or something like that.”
“T-that…!”
“I’ll take that as agreement.”
Han-wol patted Professor Kim’s shoulder and left the room.
Professor Kim stood dazed for more than ten minutes before going over to where the chairman was.
Splash.
At that moment, he heard the sound of stepping in a puddle.
“What’s this…?”
Looking closely, the water had a slight yellow tint.
Then he looked at the collapsed chairman.
His crotch was soaked as if hit by a flood.
“…This will be interesting when he wakes up.”
Although he was in a similar situation, Professor Kim somehow felt a little satisfaction.
Han-wol left the hospital and sent a text to Hye-jin saying that everything had been resolved.
She replied immediately, and only after exchanging a few more messages could he close his phone.
But Han-wol still wasn’t in a good mood.
It was actually the worst.
‘Resolved, my ass. Professor Kim is one thing, but that chairman guy especially needs to be properly dealt with later.’
He might obediently follow instructions now, but he’s surely grinding his teeth inside.
And he’ll wait for a moment of carelessness to attack again, not knowing his limits.
‘He’s a bastard who deserves to be chewed up from head to toe. He’ll definitely try something within a month, I can tell.’
That’s why he had Professor Kim deliver one page of corruption details every day—to prevent this.
For at least a month, he won’t be able to make a move.
He might even suffer from a fear bordering on mental illness.
Not only that, but it was quite a sight to see his expression when Han-wol effortlessly recited all kinds of family information, such as his daughter’s name and whereabouts.
‘Well, he’ll die within a month anyway, even if I leave him alone.’
What Han-wol had in the syringe…
Both the chairman and Professor Kim thought it was just water and looked relieved, as if they had only aged ten years.
But it wasn’t ordinary water.
‘They’re not players. They’re already infected with magic poisoning. Especially the chairman, who was closest, will die within four weeks.’
Magic poisoning, an incurable disease.
Before the regression and even now, no one knew more about that disease than Han-wol.
The one who finally discovered its cure.
The one who inversely developed it into an assassination poison that no one could detect.
All of these were Han-wol’s exclusive patents.
‘Creating poison is 100 times easier than creating medicine. And dealing with the police or government is just a hassle.’
He had done plenty of such dark deeds before the regression.
He was used to dealing with trash.
And the trashier they were, the more there was to exploit.
‘Since they tried to be clever, I should extract as much compensation as possible.’
Food waste thrown on the ground causes environmental pollution.
But when fed to livestock instead of fodder, it becomes excellent feed.
“…Sigh, I’ve become too soft. I’m just too nice.”
Normally, he would have killed them right on the spot without needing to get involved like this.
That’s because before the regression, when nations and laws meant nothing, the only goal was to kill and survive.
But currently, it’s still pre-apocalypse.
Moreover, his cousin Hye-jin and his younger sister Seol-ha are still alive.
So it seemed okay to still exist as the nice Lee Han-wol for now.
“Seol-ha comes first right now.”
The time limit is until the chairman and Professor Kim die automatically.
That way, he can release his dark intentions while they’re still alive, and continue to remain as the nice Lee Han-wol.
“First, to treat magic poisoning, I need an anti-magic substance.”
To combine this, an enormous amount of magic power is needed, but his current level is far from sufficient.
