Chapter 887 - 887 – Human Puppet
Chapter 887 – Human Puppet
“Thud! Thud! Thud…”
The incessant pounding echoed, and Ling Mo felt a chill run down his spine.
Aside from its missing hands, this Zombie displayed numerous deformities. In comparison to its body, its head was disproportionately large, and the entire surface of its skin was covered in bizarre wrinkles. To add to the peculiarity, its skeleton was absurdly oversized, yet it stood unusually short. Its bare feet resembled those of some kind of beast, using only the front foot to support its weight, while the middle appeared as though broken, causing its heels to jut upwards…
“What on earth…” Ling Mo couldn’t help but think to himself. He had seen his fair share of Monsters, but this one was certainly a prime specimen of the bizarre variety… However, the focus was not on its appearance but what it was doing.
Ling Mo initially thought this figure was undoubtedly a butcher. But as he turned his gaze to the hanging corpses, he realized that might not be the case…
The corpses hadn’t been dead for long; most of them seemed to be Zombies. However, he occasionally spotted two corpses with distinct human characteristics-relatively clean clothes, waist pouches, and knives strapped to their legs… This discovery left Ling Mo both stunned and uneasy. Survivors were rare, yet he stumbled upon two dead ones here, including a girl not too old…
It seems that no matter the time, humans remain vulnerable…
Avoiding the temptation of human flesh was obviously not for making jerky… Whether human or Zombie, these corpses all shared a shocking feature. Ignoring the blood splatters, a closer look revealed something amazing…
The bodies were covered in stitch marks!
What this butcher was doing was nothing short of crafting a human puppet!
“Thud!”
After the thudding abruptly stopped, the butcher immediately grabbed a large mass of something from nearby and continued to fiddle with the corpse. From his movements and the blood continuously dripping from the cart, it was apparent that he was extracting something from inside the corpse and stuffing something else back in… Thus, he wasn’t entirely creating a human puppet, but instead a human pouch.
Ling Mo vaguely understood a bit… This place was likely very important, and if he could explore this “operating room” thoroughly, it might reveal just the tip of the iceberg for this building…
At this moment, he spotted the zombie boy again, eerily standing behind the dangling legs of a corpse. He continued to peer through the gaps at Ling Mo… When Ling Mo noticed him, the zombie boy subtly waved, then glanced up at the corpse before slowly stepping back. During his retreat, his eyes remained fixed intently on Ling Mo…
“Is it a hint?” Ling Mo frowned thoughtfully, then took another glance at the butcher. Immediately, he placed his hand on the door, gently pushing inward. Having come this far, even if it was a trap, he had no choice but to proceed.
The gap in the door wasn’t large enough for him to squeeze through. Pushing the door was a highly daring move… If he made even the slightest noise, this Zombie Puppet would be rendered useless. And whether the next Zombie Puppet could get this close again was uncertain.
Thus, Ling Mo’s movements were exceptionally gentle; he could almost hear his own heartbeat, whether it was the puppet’s or his body’s… In this oppressive environment, he had completely blurred the lines between the two.
Meanwhile, another Zombie Puppet had ascended the stairs at the front but had yet to discover anything. However, with the revelations from this side, that puppet’s actions also became extremely cautious.
“Whew!” When the door gap widened to about ten centimeters, Ling Mo finally breathed a sigh of relief.
His palms were already sweaty with cold sweat, and in less than a second, it felt like an eternity to him.
Next, he needed to squeeze inside…
After confirming that the butcher was still engrossed in his work, Ling Mo held his breath, bent his body, and quietly slipped in.
The ground was covered with a thick layer of blood, interspersed with unidentifiable, unpleasant elements, creating a distressing sensation with each step. Even after holding his breath, the pungent smell of blood stubbornly invaded the Zombie Puppet’s nostrils, making Ling Mo feel a faint sense of agitation…
While struggling to maintain control, Ling Mo moved with deliberate slowness.
This process was quite torturous; part of him wished to hurry across to escape the constant fear of being discovered, yet he had to slow down to ensure silence…
The butcher continued to focus on his stitching, as Ling Mo steadily approached the corpses.
After several grueling seconds, Ling Mo finally slipped through the gap between the bodies and then pressed himself behind a crooked chair. He covered his mouth to catch his breath while cautiously scanning his surroundings.
No one else was around, and the hiding abilities of that zombie boy far surpassed his, with an understanding of the environment that was unmatched… The little guy was also very cautious, giving Ling Mo no chance to spot him.
“I can only check that corpse…” Ling Mo turned his head to look at the spot where the boy had just been. Besides the “designated” corpse, two adjacent ones belonged to those human Survivors…
“Let’s take a look first.”
Having made his decision, Ling Mo crouched and slowly moved over.
At this point, the distance between him and the butcher was no more than seven or eight meters, with nothing but the hanging corpses between them… If the butcher turned his head even slightly, Ling Mo would be instantly revealed.
However, even as Ling Mo reached the bottom of the corpse, the butcher remained engrossed in his work…
“What’s wrong with this corpse…”
Ling Mo circled the corpse, examining it closely and following the stitching line to its chest.
Admittedly, the butcher’s sewing skills were quite poor…
The butcher was using nothing more than a thin piece of Barbed Wire. When this was combined with flesh, the result was brutally gruesome… In addition, his stitching appeared quite haphazard. He sewed up almost any damaged areas, and the so-called “damage” included opened eyes and a gaping mouth…
Ling Mo even glanced at some sensitive parts of the corpse but quickly decided to spare his own eyes and ignored them… Just the thought of his Zombie Puppet enduring such a terrible fate made Ling Mo a bit angry.
However, this was not the time for complaints. Ling Mo noticed that, compared to other areas, the chest was stitched up the most tightly, and both the chest and abdominal cavity had tear wounds.
He reached out to poke the wound in the abdomen. His intention was to determine if the abdominal cavity was empty or filled with some foreign object, but to his surprise, his touch elicited a reaction.
“Thump…”
Inside, there was a sound akin to a heartbeat!
Though faint, it was unmistakably clear!
To be certain, Ling Mo resisted the urge and poked it a second time.
“Thump!”
Sure enough, there it was! If there was a sound, it meant something living was in there!
The butcher had stuffed something alive into the human body…
Upon closer inspection, this corpse showed no signs of decay, and even the wounds looked fresh…
To confirm this, Ling Mo turned his attention to the adjacent human corpse.
This male had pale skin and his eyes had been stitched shut, though there remained a faint gap, giving Ling Mo the eerie feeling of being watched. His mouth was slightly open, resembling a fish stranded on land.
“Sorry about this…”
Muttering to himself, Ling Mo lifted the man’s blood-stained clothing, which had been torn and then glued back together with blood.
Sure enough, there were a lot of stitching marks across his abdomen and chest, including a wound that ran directly through his torso, spanning from the heart area almost down to the navel. This was the most horrifying wound of all.
“No livor mortis… skin is elastic… no signs of decay…” Ling Mo scraped some dried blood with his fingernail and brought it to his nose, frowning immediately. “But they’ve been dead for at least three days. Even if they don’t decay, they shouldn’t be like this!”
Inside this corpse, too, there was something alive…
All these abnormalities clearly connected to whatever had been implanted. Ling Mo hadn’t expected these corpses to be used as some kind of vessels. But what exactly were these vessels holding…
“Thud!”
A dull sound resonated again, causing Ling Mo’s scalp to tighten. He quickly hid behind the corpse, blending into the darkness as he stood silently.
The butcher casually tossed a bloody, indistinct mass into a nearby plastic bin, then reached to drag up the Zombie Puppet.
The Zombie Puppet was already covered in blood, its neck twisted grotesquely to one side.
Seeing this, the butcher seemed momentarily puzzled but then extended his hand.
“Smack!”
With a single slap, the butcher straightened the Zombie Puppet’s head, letting out a bizarre hum of satisfaction.
“What the heck are you proud of?” Ling Mo watched, stunned.
Satisfied, the butcher yanked the Zombie Puppet down and began slowly walking in Ling Mo’s direction.
Ling Mo’s heart raced as he silently retreated…
Fortunately, the butcher soon stopped and looked upwards.
From his grimy coat, he pulled out a rope, looped it around the Zombie Puppet’s neck, and with a sudden leap, soared upwards.
In the next moment, as he landed, the Zombie Puppet was already hanging from the Ceiling…
“What incredible jumping ability! And… not a single drop of blood splashed!” Ling Mo observed keenly. Just then, the butcher turned towards the doorway…
The opportunity had arrived!
