Chapter 325: S2 Bahrain Grand Prix. 3
[Trajectory Assessment: Pitlane disadvantage detected. Line integrity at risk from 4th Position's approach.]
[Recommended Action: Enter at 20% throttle; maintain intersection apex trajectory. Anticipate 4th Position's outside pressure.]
P1— Ailbeart Moireach ↑
P2— Antonio Luigi ↑
00— Luca Rennick ←
P4— Davide DiMarco
P5— Jimmy Damgaard
P6— Marcellus Rodnick↑
"WOOOOOOOOOOOHH!"
"..just in time—slots back into third is Luca Rennick! A thin margin! Had he hesitated for even a second longer, DiMarco would've had him...!"
"WOOOOOOOOOOOHH!"
[3rd Position]
**We're back into the race**
"...So there you have it! Moireach leads, Luigi follows, but Rennick—just barely—clings onto third place! Can he fight his way back up, or is the momentum so low...?!"
[Turn type: Tight Left-hander ] [Angle: 70°] [Braking Point: 120 meters before turn-in] [Recommended Entry Speed: 130 km/h] [Optimal Apex: inside curb]
Speaking of momentum and strategy backfiring, someone else in the top five, other than Luca, was losing ground to the driver behind him.
Jimmy Damgaard.
The integrity of the Tiered Pursuit strategy was clawing at Jimmy Damgaard's neck. The team's strategy required him to do nothing while behind his teammate.
He wasn't allowed to overtake. He wasn't allowed to push the pace. He wasn't allowed to do a damn thing except sit tight and play second fiddle to his teammate.
And right now, behind DiMarco, he was seated at P5 as if he was a placeholder, watching the delta between him and Rodnick shrink like a snail's neck.
He wasn't fresh out of the pits, but his momentum seemed so. The yellow flags weren't waving, the safety car wasn't out, yet he stuck to DiMarco's rear like a car under the safety car parade.
Such cruel team strategy that disfavored a driver at such a time in the race. And Rodnick, who had taken P7 a while ago from Nyström, had just seen a free ticket into the top five he longed for.
"...AND THERE IT IS! THE CHAMPION POUNCES INTO TURN 1! JIMMY DAMGAARD IS A SITTING DUCK...!"
Rodnick swooped into the inside line first. That was the move he needed to take P5 from Damgaard, who had no momentum.
P5— Marcellus Rodnick ↑
P6— Jimmy Damgaard ↓
" ...Marcellus Rodnick, P5, Jimmy Damgaard, P6...!"
"WOOOOHH!"
Into P5 Rodnick went, and in an instant, DiMarco, who had been laser-focused on pressuring Luca, now found himself wedged between two Ferraris.
This could spell trouble for his pursuit of Luca. If Jackson Racing decided to play the team game, they could execute an in-race strategy to box him in, forcing him to either back off or make a risky move.
But there was another factor at play—his own teammate, Damgaard.
With the fellow Velocità driver now in P6, Rodnick himself was sandwiched between two Red Bulls. That alone gave DiMarco some reassurance. He knew he had an ally behind him, but he wasn't naive. There was no comparing the strength of himself and Damgaard to that of Rodnick and Luca.
[4th Position closing in]
Once again, Luca was caught in the position of poor grip while directly ahead of DiMarco. He fleetingly thought DiMarco might have similar plans like he did in China, but Luca immediately dismissed that.
Sitting at 12th place in the standings must be a disgraceful position for DiMarco. It would be outright stupidity for him to attempt something like that again. His ego wouldn't allow it. The internal debate between watching Luca fail and preserving his own season must be raging in his mind.
A crash here would be catastrophic. It would stain his championship hopes beyond repair. Even that "super engine" he had boasted about getting would have to do more than enough to salvage the lost points if he ended up in the barriers today.
Luca was starting to see the subtle effects of Gripper—now at (10)—having on his tires, and their speed to rebuild warmth.
They weren't significantly building up faster, they were just... faster.
Luca hoped he wasn't too late as they launched into Turn 3. Once the straight opened, the odds would automatically favor DiMarco, giving him an 85% chance of an overtake. He was very close, and easy DRS deployment would be enough.
[Straightaway ahead]
Luca didn't recall ever knowing the true lengths of the Tempesta engine DiMarco piloted and his Red Bull in general.
So, he made a quick review before he faced the difficult.
Red Bull (RBioL), lightweight of 750kg, top speed of 360km/h, and an acceleration of 2.5 sec. An impressive torque of 1050Nm (+80).

"Hmm. Such catchy phrases, system. I guess I'm the scalpel and he's the sledgehammer."
"Move over to the engine."

The ERS system prioritizes efficient energy deployment, optimizing battery usage for overtakes and defense.]
[The Tempesta's design favors straight-line speed, making it a strong contender on power-heavy circuits while maintaining reliable hybrid integration.]
"Holy shit. It has my high-speed thing as well!"
Luca felt a bit disappointed that his 056 wasn't the only engine to feature the high-speed benefits. He understood engine manufacturers would bear similarities and so would their products.
But he also understood they could not be of the same potential and ability.
"System, between my High-speed Dominance and the Tempesta's High-speed Performance, which is greater to the other?" he asked.
Great Stamina and Longevity were similar engine features, but one was greater—Longevity. Luca was confident it would be the case here.
[Indeed host, your <High-speed Dominance> is superior to the currently analyzed engine's <High-speed Performance>.]
"Yesss," Luca hissed happily. "I knew it."
So this meant if he and DiMarco were to run down a very long straight side-by-side, he would emerge victorious. Because, one, High-speed Dominance was superior, and two, he was levelling it up, unlike the other stagnant engines around him now.
After defending as much as he could, Luca took a deep breath and kept his eyes straight ahead as DiMarco zoomed past him, taunting him with a side glare.
"...Davide DiMarco in P3...!"
"WOOOOOOOOOOOH!"
P3— Davide DiMarco ↑
00— Luca Rennick ↓
Rodnick followed suit without sparing his teammate the moment of a duel acknowledgement.
"... Marcellus Rodnick in P4...!"
"WOOOOOOOOOOOHH!"
P4— Marcellus Rodnick↑
00— Luca Rennick ↓
"...Luca Rennick is tumbling down the order! DiMarco has already surged past into third, and now Rodnick doesn't even hesitate—he just sweeps through into fourth! This is definitely not what Jackson Racing wanted with that early pitstop...!"
"WOOOOOOOOOOOHH!"
[5th Position]
Many Jackson Racing fans were vocal in their frustration, their initial skepticism about the early pit stop now turning into full-blown disappointment.
A few hopefuls tried to convince themselves that this was all part of a larger strategy, but their optimism was quickly waning.
Meanwhile, the opposing fans—Squadra, Velocità, Haddock, and even some neutral spectators—were on their feet, reveling in the unexpected downfall of the frontrunner in a Ferrari.
"LUCA IS GETTING DESTROYED!" rang out across the circuit, shouted and chanted by fans who didn't support the Silver Stallions.
Luca couldn't hear any of these reactions. On the straights, the engines from all the cars were so loud that they drowned out everything—the crowd, the commentary, even his own thoughts.
The only senses he had sharp as a razor were his sight and his grip on the wheel. Rodnick's Ferrari wasn't far behind, nor were the other cars.
Warmth and grip were coming around, so Luca cast a quick glance at his mirrors to gauge Nyström's position.
[Analyzing 6th Position's distance from host and Ferrari (JRX-92B)...]
[6th Position is 2 sec away, host.]
When he returned his gaze to the track, Luca was shocked to see how things had changed in just the split second he looked at his mirrors.
Turn 4 was next, and Rodnick seemed to have had enough!
He charged into Turn 4, braking impossibly late, sending his Ferrari slicing past DiMarco. DiMarco, caught off guard, was stunned by his rival's audacity to make such a move.
It was borderline suicidal, but somehow, Rodnick made the overtake stick!
"...Rodnick—my God—he sends it into Turn 4! DiMarco has no answer! Marcellus Rodnick up into third...!"
"WOOOOOOOOOOOOHHH!"
P3—Marcellus Rodnick ↑
P4—Davide DiMarco ↓
But Rodnick's momentum was too much. His Ferrari was still carrying excess speed from the late dive, and it drifted wide, struggling to keep grip as it hurtled toward Turn 5.
In an instant, he realized he wasn't just fighting the corner—he was heading straight for Luigi!
Luigi, in his silver Mercedes, had no idea what was coming. The two cars collided when Rodnick's front wing rammed Luigi's side, sending both into a spin.
"...CONTACT! CONTACT! RODNICK AND LUIGI COLLIDE AT TURN 5...!"
Luca's eyes widened as he saw the flames.
