My Formula 1 System

Chapter 267: Chill Of Winter. 4

[SYSTEM ONLINE...] [Host should begin his Daily Routine] Luca drowsily woke up from bed, his eyes red and his breath as hot as steam. He scratched and rubbed his face before his hands moved down to clutch his wool sweater and bed sheets closer to his body. The snow from last night had grown colder and intensified to a freezing state. The curtains were closed, but Luca knew the windows would have snow clinging to them. And beyond that, the lawn and the street would be coated with snow. "I don't know any gym around here," Luca pointed out as he began listing reasonable excuses loud enough for the system to hear. "Only the one at the FAF Performance Centre." "And I really can't drive to go look for a gym," he said. "Maybe Vance could help me get into their hotel's gym..." "...but Amir's not in the UK yet." [Ding!] [Daily Quest has been issued!] "!!!!" [-·-COMPLETE PROVIDED UPPER BODY AND LEG STRENGTH TRAINING CATEGORY-·-] [DURATION: Complete before 9 AM] [This will help enhance your upper body strength and braking power.] [Reward for Completing Thursday Daily Quest: (EXP) - nil Reward for Completing Thursday Daily Quest: (Tool) - (2) Catalyst ] [Consequence for Failing Thursday Daily Quest: Punishment -Pneumonia.] Luca was fully prepared to fall back into bed and embrace the warmth of the freezing climate. But he stopped midway when the system notification rang out, announcing the Daily Quest. Sometimes, he genuinely wondered if this system had some level of sentience, because this was way too uncanny and mischievously timed. First off, an Upper Body and Leg Strength Training category was practically a full no-equipment F1 workout session. Secondly, this was the earliest time limit he'd ever been given since acquiring the system a year ago. Luca was one hundred percent sure that the 9 AM deadline wasn't just about finishing the exercises quickly, but was a direct ploy to force him out of bed immediately and abandon his bedroom. He shifted his gaze to the table clock. A few minutes to seven. Back in his school days, these clocks were often incorrect and unreliable, so he reached for his phone to double-check the correct time. "Tsk!" The difference was barely five minutes. No real difference. "Just look at all that snow, wanting nothing more than for us to stay indoors and relax," Luca said before rolling off the bed, the system's interface following along in his vision. Sitting at the edge, he studied the Daily Quest more closely and immediately noticed that there were no EXP rewards, but a tool reward. 2 Catalysts. "An incentive. Smart." With 2 Catalysts, something was definitely getting leveled up today. Luca recalled the last time he was rewarded with a single Catalyst from a Daily Quest and he remembered exactly how he used it and what he spent it on, taking the stat to the next level. Luca had decided to use the single Catalyst on his Attributes just as a test, since it was his first time using one. He didn't want to use it on a Skill because there were too many options to consider, each requiring deeper thought. Instead, he scrolled the tool higher in the system's interface, bringing it to the Attributes section, where he wouldn't need to ponder too much and could simply observe how the Catalyst worked in action. Back then, his Attributes had been: [Strength: 29 Stamina: 32 Endurance: 30 Agility: 28 Intelligence: 29 ] And after confirming the use of the Catalyst... [Processing request...] [Applying 1 Catalysts to Strength, Agility and Intelligence...] [Strength: 29 → 30 Agility: 28 → 29 Intelligence: 29 → 30 ] Luca remembered the system explicitly stating that his Attributes needed just one more point in Agility to bring them all to 30, which would, in turn, unlock a new Skill, adding another ability to his arsenal. Luca wanted to clarify something about that. "When I get them all to 30, I'll be receiving a Self Skill and not a Car Skill, right?" [Affirmative, host.] "And I can only unlock Car Skills through this method by taking Car Attributes to milestones?" [Yes, host!] "That's systematic and understandable," Luca said, wondering how close he might be to hitting a milestone in that category. He vividly remembered that his Car's Performance Attributes had been randomly scored, but he couldn't recall which tens value was the closest to a milestone. Navigating to the Car's status, Luca noted that he had yet to register Jackson Racing's Ferrari in the system. For now, the system still recognized the Dallara (F2 04) as his active car. [Performance Information: Top Speed: 300 km/h Acceleration: 3.5 s (0-100 km/h) Aerodynamics: 15 Downforce: 10 Braking Efficiency: 15 Handling: 10 Tire Wear Management: 8 ] "So, system, for this car, 10 is the first milestone because Tire Wear Management is yet to reach 10?" [Yes, host.] Luca nodded with determination. That was great and it seemed very close. He partly wished he still had the F2 04 just for the sake of it. In fact, he was confident that Tire Wear (TW) Management would've been the first Car Attribute he'd push to the next tens. With Gripper as his first Car Skill, executing it and leveling it up would naturally improve tire-related performance, making TW Management the most likely to hit the next zeroes first if he was still piloting an F2 04. Maybe he could get it to 10 quickly for a new Skill before he switched cars? "But now I have Agility to take to 30! Let's get to it!" [Agility: 29] Luca pushed himself off the edge of the bed and stretched before moving into the bathroom for a quick face wash and to brush his teeth. Then, he quickly changed into workout gear, rolling his shoulders as he navigated to the Daily Quest details. [-·-COMPLETE PROVIDED UPPER BODY AND LEG STRENGTH TRAINING CATEGORY-·-] [—Neck Isometrics (3 sets of 30 seconds per side) —Pike Push-Ups (4 sets of 12 reps) —Squat Jumps (4 sets of 15 reps) —Single-Leg Wall Sit (3 sets of 45 seconds per leg) ] Luca had completed Daily Quests like pushing a Trampos transport truck across a set distance, swimming for agility and core, and even holding a huge wooden plank. But this one was pure endurance and strength training, almost like an entire F1 gym session crammed into one quest. He looked out the window and realized this was actually a great idea. With the winter morning, he'd have nothing to do but this. So, Luca left his room to begin. He decided to take the lobby area next to the staircase since his room was relatively too small for an exercise like squat jumps. Luca noticed the house was quiet, and Mrs. Rennick hadn't started her usual early morning chores and cooking. It seemed she was sleeping in to enjoy the cold weather. He looked around the house, searching for a very comfortable mat.
