My Children Blessing

Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Ding-dong, ding-dong.

The three of them were cozy watching TV together, but the sound of the doorbell startled them, and they quickly separated.

"I'll get the door."

Jia Fuhai immediately stood up and walked toward the door. He didn't need to think to know who it was.

"Dad… Aunt Chen."

Opening the door, he saw his father-in-law Zhen Fugui and his stepmother-in-law Chen Lina. Jia Fuhai hurriedly greeted them but hesitated when calling her "Aunt Chen," as his wife had only recently been taken advantage of by him.

Chen Lina had come by twice before when Zhen Linqi was pregnant, but as she wasn't Zhen Linqi's biological mother, it was rare. This time, she might have come because of Zhen Linna.

Zhen Linqi's family situation was a bit complicated.

Early on, Zhen Linna's mother was her father's second wife, but without formal papers. It wasn't until Zhen Linqi's biological mother passed away that her father officially married Linna's mom.

Despite there being two wives, according to Zhen Linqi, there weren't any major conflicts during her biological mother's life.

Aunt Chen was quiet and obedient, going along with whatever Zhen Fugui said. She wasn't strict with Zhen Linqi either.

This is why the whole family got along well, with no real friction between the daughters and the elders.

When Zhen Linqi got married, her father gave her three houses, worth almost 700 million yuan, along with 5 million in cash. Aunt Chen didn't complain about it at all.

Perhaps because the parents had two wives, Zhen Linqi and her sister found it easier to accept these kinds of situations.

Which worked out well for Jia Fuhai.

"Hmph!"

Zhen Fugui's face darkened when he saw Jia's yellow hair. He wasn't fond of him at all. Aunt Chen, however, responded with a polite smile.

"Hi Dad, hi Aunt Lina."

"Hi, Dad, Mom."

Both daughters stood up as soon as they saw them.

"Linqi, have you been feeling unwell recently?"

Aunt Chen grabbed Zhen Linqi's hand and started chatting with her. The three women began talking about everyday life.

As Jia Fuhai sat on a small stool, he could feel his father-in-law's piercing gaze on him. His guilty conscience made him sit cautiously to the side.

"Dad, would you like something to drink?"

Feeling the weight of the stare, Jia Fuhai quickly asked.

"Hmph! Drink? Drink what? You lazy kid, you don't even have a job. How are you going to take care of my daughter?"

Zhen Fugui's scolding was filled with disappointment. If it weren't for the fact that his daughter was pregnant and he somewhat liked him, he would have told this deadbeat to scram a long time ago. He's just living off others—what a disgrace.

Jia Fuhai silently endured the scolding. If he were in his father-in-law's shoes, he wouldn't want someone like him as a son-in-law either.

Someday, he'd have to rely on his son. Once his son has a good future, he'll make his father-in-law proud. But for now, he had to endure.

Despite the harsh words, he still respected his father-in-law. He didn't intervene too much and even gave him money and a house—truly a model father-in-law.

"Dad, calm down. It's not like we're short on money, and besides, Hai-ge is just taking care of me."

Hearing her father's angry words, Zhen Linqi quickly stepped in to calm him down.

Seeing his beloved daughter defend that good for nothing, Zhen Fugui felt bitter. If it weren't for her happiness being so evident, he would've shown that brat what real fury looked like.

Jia Fuhai silently praised his wife—what more could a man ask for when his wife stands by him like this?

Back when he was in Hong Kong, he thought about what he'd do if he met the "perfect little angel"—whether he'd stick around or embrace his primal instincts.

But after getting together with Zhen Linqi, he felt at peace. They got along so well that he didn't feel the need to fool around.

Why bother working when his wife took care of everything? And with no money worries, he could be the ultimate freeloader.

Before their child was born, he'd rely on his wife, and in his old age, he'd rely on his son!

Of course, anything his wife offered, as long as it passed his standards, he'd gladly accept.

Meanwhile, Aunt Chen had noticed that Zhen Linna hadn't been attending her classes at the women's college. Since she was here to care for her sister, she followed her mother over.

"Nanna, why haven't you been going to your women's college? Your sister took a break because of the pregnancy, but you—"

Aunt Chen had received a notice from the college and came over to check on her daughter. Since she was already planning to visit, she came with her husband.

"Mom, I've been... attending," Zhen Linna said sheepishly, hugging her mother. She felt guilty, though she had no regrets about what she'd done.

"You! If your grades are bad, at least don't skip class."

Aunt Chen sighed, feeling helpless with her daughter, and could only advise her not to skip class.

The five of them ate dinner together before Zhen Fugui and his wife left.

"Nanna, earlier… Do you think Dad noticed?"

Zhen Linqi didn't know what to say about her sister. Even with their parents present, she couldn't hold back.

"Sooner or later, I'll tell them."

Jia Fuhai quickly pulled her close. If she were with him, he'd take responsibility.

"I know, but can we wait a little longer? We haven't been married that long. You'll give Dad a heart attack."

Zhen Linqi sighed, feeling a bit of a headache over the situation.

"Don't worry, I'll handle it. Don't overthink it."

At this point, there was no other choice. He just had to drag things out a little longer to avoid stressing out his father-in-law.

"Nanna, make sure to go to class tomorrow."

"Alright, I got it."

Facing her elder sister's imposing aura, Zhen Linna pouted in response.

Watching this unfold, Jia Fuhai was still thinking about his wife's newly acquired five attributes.

Green, green, green, green, and… white?

Was he cursed with bad luck? How could this be?

Maybe he was doing something wrong, but it didn't matter. He still had eight months left to figure it out.

The next day...

"Wake up! Breakfast is ready. You have to go to class today."

Jia Fuhai called out to Zhen Linna while adjusting her sheets. By this time, Zhen Linqi was already up.

"Hurry up, or Mom will come over to deal with you!"

Seeing that she still hadn't moved, he scolded her while arranging the bedding.

His loud voice finally stirred Zhen Linna awake.

After washing up, she greeted her sister, grabbed breakfast from the dining table, and headed out.

As the sun bathed her in its glow, she thought to herself how nice it would be to get pregnant herself so she could always be by Hai-ge's side.

No, her sister had been too good to her already, even giving her Hai-ge. She shouldn't be too greedy, and besides, she didn't want to worry her parents.

As she walked past the taxi stop and into the college, she let her thoughts wander.

In the classroom, she took her seat.

"Nanna, why haven't you responded to me? What have you been up to lately?"

Lin Feifei, her closest girlfriend, angrily confronted her. As her most intimate friend, Lin Feifei couldn't understand why Nanna had been ignoring her.

"I was just taking care of my sister."

Zhen Linna responded absentmindedly.

"Then why didn't you respond to my messages? I sent you so many!"

"Oh, I didn't see them."

She was still distracted, thinking only of Hai-ge. Girlfriends didn't matter when Hai-ge was in the picture.

"What? Have you forgotten the promises we made to each other?"

Tears began streaming down Lin Feifei's face as she angrily grabbed Zhen Linna's arm. Clearly, this was a deep, heartfelt relationship.

"Oh~~"

"Woohoo~~"

The other girls in the class, hearing this outburst, were immediately drawn in; their curiosity piqued. Everyone let out strange cries, and some even began snacking on sunflower seeds, eager to watch the drama unfold.

In progressive Hong Kong, female-to-female relationships were no big deal, but gossip? That was always interesting.

Zhen Linna panicked. Only a few people knew about her previous involvement with girls. She didn't want her parents to find out, but wait... maybe that could work.

If her parents thought she was in a relationship with a girl, it would be a minor issue. They'd probably just lecture her, or maybe they'd even be open-minded about it.

But what if they found out about her relationship with Hai-ge? Her father would kill him.

Lin Feifei had no idea that her feelings were about to be used as part of a bigger plan.

Zhen Linna hugged Lin Feifei and whispered in her ear, "Let's talk after school, okay? Everyone's watching us."
