Chapter 52: Chapter 52: You lied to me !
And then her face landed on Barbara.
As the boat arrived, Barbara was the first to jump off, her eyes scanning the shore until they landed on Leo.
She rushed towards him, a look of relief and joy on her face.
"Leo!" she exclaimed, throwing her arms around him.
M"I was so worried about you! I'm so glad you're safe!"
Leo hugged her back, feeling a mix of emotions. He was happy to see Barbara, but he was also aware of the complicated situation he was in.
"I'm sorry, Barbara," he said, holding her tight.
"I know I shouldn't have gone off without telling you. I was just trying to help Myra, and things got out of hand."
Barbara pulled back, looking up at him with tears in her eyes.
" You did great ! " she said. "I just care that you're both safe. I was so scared when I couldn't find you."
Leo smiled, feeling a pang of guilt for worrying her. "I'm sorry," he said again. "I promise to make it up to you."
As they hugged, Myra watched them with a mix of emotions.
She was happy to see Barbara and Leo reunited, but she was also aware of the tension between them.
The police officers and the other men on the boat began to disembark, and soon the shore was filled with people.
As the scene unfolded, Raymond's men approached Myra, looking relieved and apologetic.
"Miss Myra, we're so sorry it took us so long to find you," one of them said, bowing his head in respect.
"We were worried sick about you."
Myra smiled, trying to reassure them. "I'm fine, really," she said.
"Leo, my bodyguard, protected me the whole time. I was in good hands."
The men looked at Leo with a mixture of surprise and gratitude.
"Thank you, sir," one of them said, nodding at Leo. "We appreciate your service in keeping Miss Myra safe."
Leo nodded, feeling a sense of pride and responsibility.
"It's all part of my job," he said. "I'm just glad I could help."
Barbara went to Myra too and hugged her.
" I am so glad you are safe too. I was worried about you." She said.
Myra smiled and said. " No more worrying now. Leo is sick, take him home. I will go with my fathers men." Myra said and decided to walk away to give them space.
As she walked away , Her eyes met Leo's, and she could see the guilt and regret in his eyes.
As the police officers approached, they all greeted Leo with a salute.
"Officer Leo, good to see you, sir," They said in a big chorus.
Barbara's eyes widened in surprise and she immediately turned to him,
"Leo, you're a police officer?" she asked, her voice filled with shock.
Leo nodded to her with a faint smile.
Myra's eyes also widened in surprise and she turned to face him a group of officers still saluting before him.
" Huh !" Then expression changed to one of anger.
"…You're… a police officer?" she repeated, her voice rising.
" I am sorry. I had to keep it a secret.." He said.
" You are unbelievable!" Myra cursed and walked away.
" A moment !" Leo excused himself and followed her.
Leo quickly followed Myra, trying to catch up to her as she walked away.
"Myra, wait!" he called out, but she didn't stop.
He jogged to catch up to her, finally reaching her side.
"Myra, please listen to me," he said, trying to explain.
"I know I should have told you I was a police officer, but I was trying to protect you. I didn't want to put you in any more danger."
Myra stopped walking and turned to face him, her eyes blazing with anger.
"You didn't trust me,"
she said, her voice cold.
"You lied to me, Leo. You pretended to be something you're not."
Leo took a deep breath and tried to explain. "I was assigned to protect you, Myra. I was undercover, and I had to keep my true identity a secret. I didn't mean to hurt you or deceive you. I was just trying to do my job."
Myra's expression didn't change, and Leo could see the hurt and anger in her eyes.
" But you should have told me !" She broke into tears.
"You always called me a hypocrite, Leo,"
she said, her voice trembling with emotion.
"You always accused me of saying one thing and doing another. But now, it turns out that you're the one who's a hypocrite."
Leo looked taken aback by Myra's words, and he took a step back, his eyes widening in surprise.
"Myra, I..misjudged you.." he started to say, but she cut him off.
"No, Leo, don't try to explain," she said, her voice cold.
"You've been lying to me all along, pretending to be something you're not. You've been judging me, criticizing me, and yet you're guilty of the same thing. You're a hypocrite, Leo, and I don't want anything to do with you."
Myra's words were like a slap in the face, and Leo felt a stinging sensation as he realized the truth in her words.
He had been so quick to judge her, to criticize her, and yet he had been guilty of the same thing all along.
"Myra, please..." Leo started to say, but she cut him off again.
"No, Leo, don't come near me," she said, her voice firm.
"I don't want you to ever come near me again. I don't want to see your face, I don't want to hear your voice. You're a hypocrite, Leo, and I deserve better than someone like you."
Leo felt a pang of sadness and regret as he realized that he had lost Myra's trust.
He knew that he had hurt her, and he didn't blame her for feeling the way she did.
He nodded slowly, feeling a
sense of defeat wash over him.
"I understand, Myra," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I'll stay away from you. I'll give you the space you need." He said tears almost leaving his eyes and walked back to the rest.
Myra stood there, alone and tears streaming down her face.
Myra's body shook with sobs as she thought about all the times Leo had judged her, all the times he had made her feel like she was inferior to him.
She had always tried to defend herself, to explain herself, but he had never listened.
He had always assumed the worst about her, and now she knew that he was just as guilty of the same things he had accused her of.
She cried bitterly, feeling like she had been punched in the gut.
She had trusted Leo, she had believed in him, loved him and now she felt like a fool.
She had always tried to be a good person, to do the right thing, but Leo's never saw any goodness in her had made her question everything.
Myra's tears fell like rain, and she didn't try to stop them.
