Chapter 460: Wives fight with everything they have.
The battlefield was a scene of despair and resistance. Dante's wives were surrounded by an endless army of creatures created and commanded by Mary Rose. At some point during the battle, Mary Rose began increasing both the numbers and the power of the undead, to the point that they started to hurt the women fighting.
Alice's witches, though far away, were all severely wounded and had taken significant damage, with many of them incapacitated.
In the center of the battlefield, Valentina stood, her blood aura pulsating violently around her. Each of her movements was a spectacle of power, her claws piercing and tearing apart the enemies. But even for her, the situation was becoming critical. Her black dress was torn, revealing marks of cuts and burns on her pale skin.
"They just won't stop!" she shouted, her tone mixing frustration and exhaustion as she conjured a wave of blood blades to cut through a new line of enemies.
She was worn out... barely able to stay on her feet. In the last hour, all types of undead had attacked her, and every kind of power had been directed at her...
'I'm tired... my power is slowly fading... I don't know how much longer I have the energy for this...' Valentina thought, delivering a devastating blow that killed thousands of the undead.
In the skies, Morgana hovered, desperately casting spells, her hands glowing with arcane runes that exploded like storms of light and fire. Her face was covered in sweat, and her breath came in short gasps as she raised a barrier to protect Valentina from a surprise attack.
'So much energy... she keeps generating more and more... what the hell is this?' she wondered. Of course, they all knew that Mary Rose would be dangerous, but they never imagined it would be this much... this dangerous.
'We handled it well when she was just attacking with the undead, but now it seems like she's throwing everything she has at us without rest...'
"Valentina, stop exposing yourself so much!" Morgana shouted, her voice firm despite the tension in her eyes.
"As if we have a choice! I can't use the power of the Sun anymore!" Valentina shot back, as the sun had been completely blocked by the dark red sky.
Nagasawa was covered in blood, her katana dancing through the air in precise and lethal cuts. Each of her strikes was accompanied by a burst of speed, but the creatures kept appearing like an endless wave. Her white hair was completely stained black with dirt, the white strands gone, giving her a different appearance, as dirt and blood covered her from head to toe.
"Stop arguing! This isn't the time for your damn bickering!!" she yelled, her body beginning to waver under the weight of the unrelenting battle.
Aaralyn was jumping between the shadows, devouring and killing everyone in her line of sight. Each undead that came near her was melted and torn apart by her shadow magic, while she herself threw herself into the fray, killing everyone she could. However, her magic was beginning to fail; the glow in her green eyes was starting to fade.
"They need more time, but I... I don't know if I can hold on..." Aaralyn murmured, her legs trembling and her arms lightly wounded.
Sara was on the flank, firing divine energy attacks in all directions, purifying the bodies so they couldn't be revived. Each attack hit its target, but for every creature she brought down, three more emerged. Her divine energy seemed infinite, but her arms were beginning to lose strength.
"We need to retreat!" she shouted, but no one could manage to take action... Everything was difficult for them.
"It's not possible!" she heard Vex's scream from the other side of the battlefield.
The pink-haired succubus moved with agility, striking enemies with her hands and tail. She was a blur of motion, but even her speed was not enough to handle the overwhelming volume of enemies. Experience more tales on My Virtual Library Empire
"This woman..." Vex muttered under her breath. "She brought hell here!"
"Stop complaining and fight!" They heard a growl from the sky.
Eldrax roared as she spit torrents of fire and created seismic explosions around her. Her scales gleamed with a golden hue but were covered in deep cuts, and her eyes revealed exhaustion.
"I'll burn all of you!" she roared, but her voice was starting to crack, and her fire lost intensity.
"Hey!! WE'RE HERE, WATCH OUT!!" Vex shouted to the dragon, who made another swooping dive, clearing the undead.
"Just hold on, we don't need to win, we just need to hold out until our dear one returns!! If he comes back, we'll have an army of demons to deal with this!" Lilith shouted.
Lilith was using her illusion magic to disorient and confuse the enemies, but even her manipulations were starting to fail against the overwhelming number of creatures. Her sword was soaked in blood, and her fingers were bruised from so much striking, she too...
"I'm running out of options..." she murmured, her usual confidence shaken as her magic faltered.
Lyriana stood at the center of the group, conjuring water barriers that solidified into walls of ice to contain the attacks. But even she was starting to show signs of fatigue.
"Hold on tight!" she shouted, but her voice was tinged with desperation.
Valentina and Kaalindra stood together, their backs pressed against one another. "Mistress," Kaalindra said.
"Yes, I know," Valentina replied, her spear cutting through everything in its path.
"We're not going to make it," Kaalindra said seriously. "Anyway, it's good to know my last moments will be with you by my side, Mistress," Kaalindra said, smiling.
"Stop talking nonsense!" Valentina said, delivering another blow that devastated everything around them.
"DUCK!" Everyone heard a roar from the sky.
Voralith descended from the heavens, and a hurricane of energy obliterated everything in its path... But... all the enemies got back up again.
"How many more?! This isn't normal!" she shouted, frustrated.
As the battlefield roared with the sound of steel clashing and desperate screams, Alice fixed her gaze on the colossal, lifeless body of Tiamat. The immense dragon, once a symbol of indomitable power, now lay motionless, her carcass like a dead mountain amidst the chaos. Her eyes shone with concern, mixed with a growing sense of desperation.
"The body..." she murmured, her voice barely escaping her lips as her eyes traced the fallen titan before her. "She... absorbed everything?" There was something almost suffocating about the idea. The pieces didn't fit, and it left her in a state of almost visceral denial.
In the background, Cherry seemed completely indifferent to the desolate scene. She was jumping rope with light, carefree movements, as though she were in a park rather than in the middle of a devastated battlefield. "I found her like this!" Cherry exclaimed, her voice filled with a disturbing lightness. Her eyes shone with a forced innocence as she glanced over her shoulder at Alice.
Alice turned abruptly, disbelief etched on her face. "No... this wasn't supposed to be like this..." she began, her voice faltering under the weight of shock and guilt. "I thought..." The sentence remained unfinished, an echo of a strategy that had failed miserably.
Cherry stopped jumping rope, letting it fall to the ground in a casual motion, but the playful smile remained on her face. "What did you think, Alice?" she asked, her tone a mix of sarcasm and childlike curiosity. She tilted her head slightly, her eyes gaining an enigmatic intensity. "That Tiamat would leave her power behind? That she'd just hand over what Mary Rose wanted? Of course not." She shrugged as if the answer were obvious.
Before Alice could react, a third voice interrupted the conversation, carrying a familiar firmness. "I agree with her."
Alice quickly turned, recognizing the figure emerging from the horizon. It was Talassa, the dragon Dante had brought through a spiritual contract. Her presence used to emanate strength, but now she seemed worn, almost fragile.
"You've been gone for too long," Alice accused, the relief mixed with a hint of frustration.
Talassa approached, exhaustion evident in her golden eyes. "I was busy making sure Fey was completely sealed," she replied, her voice firm but tinged with weariness. "Now, it's impossible for Mary Rose to even approach the Positive World Tree. Not even the Negative World Tree can sense her anymore."
Alice took a deep breath, processing the words. "That's... good," she said finally, the relief beginning to seep into her voice.
"Yes, but it came at a cost," Talassa retorted, her expression serious. "I used all of my energy to complete the seal. I'm weaker than a human now." She crossed her arms, a gesture that seemed less confident than usual, as if admitting the toll of her action.
Alice looked at her, absorbing the gravity of the situation. "You knew this could happen, didn't you?" she asked, her voice carrying a sincere concern.
Talassa nodded. "It was necessary. If Mary Rose had obtained the Positive World Tree, there would be no more fight to be had. It would be the end."
Alice clenched her fists, her frustration evident. "So now we're here, with Tiamat dead, you weakened, and Mary Rose stronger than ever. How the hell are we supposed to beat this?"
Cherry, still smiling, stepped forward. "We're not going to win, that one there is useless," she said, pointing theatrically at Tiamat's lifeless body. "We've already lost the battle. Fortunately, if we manage to stay alive, it'll be good, but... I think soon, some of us will die, little by little."
"But that doesn't matter, does it?" Cherry smiled. "Every second that passes, we're holding on so that our dear one survives. When he reappears, even if we're dead, he'll be able to save us." She said, smiling.
