Chapter 3: 03. Awakening in a morgue
Sylvester's fingers began to twitch, his back icy as he lay on what felt like a cold metal examination table. He cracked his eyes open, but the blinding fluorescent lights forced them shut again. After several attempts, he managed to keep them open, and a sweet, sickly smell mixed with embalming fluids filled his nose, overwhelming him. Turning slightly on his side, his gaze swept the room—it was a morgue. He recognized the sterile, clinical walls, likely the same place where he'd brought his grandmother's body.
He stared in shock. So, I didn't die, he thought. It was then that he noticed something strange: he was naked, but his body felt different. He touched his chest and froze, finding two full, medium-sized breasts. His hands shot to his lower abdomen, and a wave of horror flooded him. His body had changed—his penis was gone, replaced by a smooth slit.
Sylvester's eyes widened as he screamed in disbelief.
[Shh! Keep it down, Sylvester. The goddess of light understands your frustration, but please, stay calm.]
The soft, almost seductive voice of a young woman filled his mind, startling him.
The voice was soothing yet laced with authority.
"The goddess of light?" Sylvester murmured, memories flashing of a strange prompt he'd seen on his computer screen—had it been real? His heart pounded. "Wait... does this mean everything that happened back at the station actually happened?"
[The criteria for unlocking the system have been fulfilled.]
[System synchronization with host commencing.]
[Synchronization complete. Congratulations. You have been given a chance to become the most desirable human in this world, just as you wished.]
"This isn't what I wished for."
[What seems to be the problem?] the voice asked, a hint of curiosity in her tone.
"I asked to be the most desirable human, not a woman!" he exclaimed, frustrated as he cupped his newfound breasts.
[We conducted a survey and concluded that women are the most desirable humans in this world. You received exactly what you wished for.]
"That's not what I meant! When I said 'most desirable human,' I was thinking more like Chris Hemsworth, not... this."
[Tough titty. Consider this a lesson in being more specific next time.]
Sylvester stood, stewing in irritation, the sting of Amanda's betrayal still fresh in his mind.
[Two of your wishes have already been granted. You can use them as you see fit.]
"Are you… are you in my head?" Sylvester asked, glancing around as if he might see where the voice was coming from.
[Stop looking around, Sylvester. Yes, I am in your head, and this is going to be your 'new normal' from here on out.]
"But... how?" He paused, trying to make sense of it.
[Details don't matter right now. What's important is that you're alive, in a new world, and the goddess of light has seen it fit for you to exist here. You're special to her, which is why I'm here—to guide you and help you harness and control all the powers you inherited from this body's previous occupant, powers intended to create balance in this chaotic world by doing the bidding of the Goddess of light.]
"Balance? Chaotic world? What are you talking about?"
[You'll find out soon enough. Patience, dear.]
"Fine... but what should I call you?"
[Ah, I didn't expect you to get around to asking me that so soon. You can call me Hagrit. I was created by the goddess specifically to guide you—to help you unlock your powers and eventually transform you into the most powerful fairy in this world.]
"A fairy? What's that? And what powers are you talking about?" Sylvester's confusion deepened with every cryptic answer.
[A fairy is a formidable being, capable of reading minds, detecting lies, and summoning light like sun rays, even during the darkest of nights. They can also create portals to travel instantly to any place they wish. They can enchant people, bend them to their will, create illusions. Convenient skills, if I do say so.]
[The former inhabitant of this body had accessed two of these abilities before she ended up here. With luck—and intelligence—you'll learn to unlock and master the rest.]
Sylvester winced at Hagrit's slight dig. "Are you calling me dumb, Hagrit?"
[Well, Sylvester, your best friend was sticking it to your wife way before she settled for you, and you didn't have a clue.]
The words stung, cutting deeper because they were painfully true. He clenched his jaw, vowing to himself that he wouldn't be a fool, he won't be a doormat in this new world. He will be the predator and not the prey.
"Can you change me back to a man?" he asked, desperate to regain some sense of control.
[No, I can't, even if I wanted to. Your form is beyond my power to alter. But I can help you, which is precisely what I was created to do.]
Sylvester slumped in defeat. "This is the last thing I wanted…"
[Stop pouting, Sylvester. Look at yourself. You're breathtaking, with a beautiful face and a gorgeous body that commands attention. Embrace it.]
Sylvester got up from the metal table, moving to where he could see his reflection on the sleek, stainless steel of the morgue fridge door. Staring back at him was a stunning mixed race woman, a perfect blend of Asian and Caucasian, the kind of woman he'd often fantasized about when he rubbed one out.
"Fine, but tell me—why is the goddess of light interested in me?"
[That's not information I possess. She operates on her own terms, and I am simply the messenger.]
Somehow, he could sense she was telling the truth. He could even feel her sincerity. Maybe I really can detect lies now, he thought, but chose not to press further. Instead, he shifted his focus to something more promising.
"So, how exactly can you help me become the most powerful fairy?"
[Ah, now we're talking! I am equipped with tools: levels, points, missions, your attributes, and various other features.]
[Points help you level up, which you can earn by completing missions. Each level-up grants you ten attribute points to use as you see fit.]
[The missions are assigned randomly. Their rewards vary and may include points, weapons, consumables, or skills. Each of these rewards will become available as soon as you finish a mission.]
"Can you give me an example of things I'd need to do to earn points and rewards?"
"[Points are earned through missions and using the two abilities you currently have. You could gather valuable information or engage in sexual encounters with the intention of using people to your advantage. And killing a target, manipulating and exploiting people. Your actions will be rewarded based on their impact. For instance, sleeping with someone while their lover watches in despair would yield a substantial amount of points.]
"Wait, so I can get points by... doing sexual things?"
[Yes, even with yourself.]
Sylvester's curiosity deepened. "What's my first mission?" He wanted to get started and, ideally, get out of the morgue—the smell was becoming unbearable.
[Before I say elaborate on the mission, I have to inform that two men are headed here, play dead right now.]
Immediately Sylvester heard footsteps. Quickly, he lay back down on the cold metal table and stilled himself. Moments later, two men in lab coats entered, speaking in low voices.
He heard one of them say, "This girl here is still fresh—just the way you like it. She died today from a drug overdose, from what I heard."
"You're sure?" the other man asked.
"Well, I haven't done a full exam yet," the first replied.
Sylvester felt a chill as he realized that they were talking about him. What are they planning to do to me, he thought.
"It doesn't matter," the second man said dismissively. "She's beautiful. I can't wait to fuck her six way till Sunday."
[Well, that answers that question,] Hagrit's voice muttered darkly in his mind.
