Chapter 107: Using the Opportunity (1)
Sett had quite a few large flying beasts as his Tomb Slaves, and letting them act as his carriages had been a great choice. Now, those flying beasts flew circles around the Cloud Door, while the men and women they had picked up remained seated on top of them.
The monsters did not hurt them and they did not dare to make trouble for the monsters.
According to Sett's instructions, they all made an orderly line on each beast.
With the first flying beast that arrived as the lead, the flying beasts also stood in a line.
Standing on Little Peckington's back, he stared around him.
"Okay, one by one, step into the monster's head before throwing the item I give you into the Door," Sett announced, wondering what he should throw in first.
The first flying beast flew closer to the door—a giant vulture.
A young man of about twenty years old stepped upto the vulture's head, his face heavy. Sett examined the youth. This would be the first person to throw something in.
The youth looked to have lost all his teeth in some sort of fight.
There was also deep sadness and unwillingness in the youth's brows.
Sett became curious. "What happened to you?" he asked.
The youth gritted his teeth, while the few people behind him cackled to themselves.
"Tell the young master what happened to you, you trash!" Someone shouted.
Another jeered. "Tell him why you are here!"
"Hahahaha!"
Sett did not laugh. "Tell."
The young man clenched his fists. "Is it true that you will give me a hundred kilograms of gold for just throwing something into the door?"
Sett nodded but then shook his head. "Nothing is so easily gained in this world. No, just throwing something into the door will get you nothing."
The crowd immediately made a fuss.
"WHAT?"
"So this was a scam indeed!"
"We will beat you to death if you try and scam us!"
Sett sneered while many with some intelligence in the crowd took in a deep breath.
These idiots!
Beat the young man, Sett, up?
Didn't they see what kind of monsters he was commanding?
No wonder these people were so useless.
The toothless young man himself, who had been laughed at, was among the more intelligent people.
Many began shouting again.
"Shut up! Don't anger the young master over there you imbeciles!"
"Can't you see the army he has?!"
Sett remained silent till the crowd became less rowdy, then he raised his hand. The crowd was silenced with that single move. All of the people above the monsters stared at him from their perch.
"I will not scam you but I do not plan to give you my money without gaining something in return. My conditions are simple. Throw something into the Door, and the Door will ask you three questions. If you answer all three, as promised, I will give you a hundred kilograms of gold."
That made them all pause and contemplate.
"And." Sett continued. "Even if you can't answer all three questions, it is still okay. If you answer one question, I will give you one kilogram of gold. If you answer two questions, I will give you ten kilograms. And if you answer all three, I will give you a hundred kilograms!"
While many people became worried at his words, many also became happier. Earning the gold wouldn't be too easy, and that made it more believable that he was talking the truth. If it was so easy, they would think there was a catch.
Then, Sett looked at the toothless young man.
"The same goes for you. The more answers you give, more gold you can get. But before that, I am kind of curious." He looked at the youth's teeth.
The youth nodded, then sighed. "My… fiancee left me for a young nobleman. I was okay with that, and I even challenged the nobleman to a duel in five months, but I was beat up by his underlings." Then, his face warped into one filled with hatred. "That coward!"
Sett inwardly rolled his eyes.
You are not capable enough to beat someone's underlings, and you are still talking about them?
"Anyway, I don't care." He beckoned Zarah. "Come here."
Zarah went upto him and immediately handed him a goblet of her own red blood. Sett noticed an open wound on her wrist and took it into his hand.
She looked at him curiously.
Sett took her hand like a gentleman. "I shall heal you, young lady."
It was the first time she was in such a crowd where she was the center of attention. And being called a lady made her subconsciously stand straighter. A warm feeling buzzed inside her.
Big bro knows how to please me.
"Yes!" She said elegantly—or something like that—as she gave him her hand on her own.
He caressed her wrist.
Death Begets Life!
Her wrist was perfectly healed and smiling at her, Sett straightened up.
The crowd around took in a sharp breath.
Sett was too mysterious, too strong.
He could heal, command an army of flying beasts, and even had so much gold!
Even the two women by his sides were absolute beauties!
Sett nodded inwardly.
That should have frightened them.
Taking the goblet of blood from Zarah, Sett handed it to the toothless youth. "You better answer well—and be honest, always. That's the only way to succeed."
The youth looked at the Door in silence and nodded. "If my name is Mahu, I will not fail!"
Mahu, the toothless youth, looked at the expectant Zarah with a longing gaze. She just stared at him impatiently.
This young master Sett is so lucky. He has a sister like that who seems genuinely comfortable around him. And the other woman also seems to be close to him.
They cared for him!
That was a genuine connection.
Compared to that, what did his life matter?
Nobody would even cry for me if I died.
Feeling bitter, the toothless youth walked forward and silently threw the goblet into the door.
Mahu wanted to succeed more than Sett and Zarah wanted him to succeed. The youth needed this money to create a new life for himself.
With that money, he will first go to the brothel and then he will buy a stunning prostitute, then he will show off to his ex-fiancee about that woman's beauty!
Then, he will use the money to start a business.
And he will become rich!!
A hand listlessly came out of the Door and waved a goblet of silver blood at him.
"Why are you doing this?" The Door Spirit asked without much interest.
The young man took a deep breath. "To show my fiancee that I am not useless, to tell the world that my life matters!"
Uncle Door sneered. "You are useless. You don't even have any skill and is hoping to impress with only your luck. But meh, what you said is the right answer." It stopped. Wiggled its fingers. "But I bet you can't answer the next question."
The youth became even more determined.
I answered right! I knew it! I knew it! I am not useless!
He will not fail!
The hand retreated and came back with a goblet of golden blood.
The Door Spirit became smug inwardly.
Will you even dare to answer?!
Hahahaha.
"If you could do anything right now and nobody can stop you in this place." A deep, evil chuckle echoed out of the Door. "What will you do?"
The youth became silent.
The Door added sinisterly: "Think of it. If even this young man named Sett can't do anything to you and you can do anything, what will you do? Look around you, do you see any beautiful women?"
Sett's face darkened.
The young man became silent. His heart thudded in his chest. He turned to immediately look towards Zarah but before he could look—he stopped himself with a slap on his own face. Then, he looked at the door.
If I can do anything, what will I do?
"Even if I can do anything I want, I will keep my dignity! I will not spit on the face of my saviors!"
Zarah nodded in satisfaction. That was a decent human being!
Zainah just watched. Too fake.
Why did their beauty attract attention everywhere they went?
Tsk.
It's all Sett's fault.
Uncle Door, on the other hand, laughed. "Wrong answer! That is not honest at all!"
With that, the hand returned into the Door with the golden blood and came back with the silver blood. It threw it at the toothless youth and Sett snatched it away.
Then, without hesitation, he gave the young man a death stare.
Silently, he placed a small golden ingot on the man's hand.
"That's one kilogram of gold. Now, there is no need for you."
The youth shrank in fear but shouted, "One more chance! I can do better next time!"
Sett didn't have to say anything before another man came and pushed the youth away. There were people waiting for their own chance after all!
